i believe I've updated all that I could from the numark download site ...

if you are worried about a hot mac you can use SMC fan control to keep it cool.

what you can do is tell them you are doing things that should not crash this mac and their MUST be a problem with it. it should not have these crashes. ask them to switch it out or you will return it.

im not doing anything different, it's when I'm busy like scratching or hitting one of the set cues on the v7 that it just locks up on me, and that v7 just keeps on spinning, i still have the pc laptop too, that i can go for hours without any failure etc ..

don't know if you can do that or not without causing an issue.
have you tried starting fresh with a clean itch install and folders?
i don't really know what to tell you since i don't work for serato but this should NOT be occurring with a good mac.
if you do get a replacement, unless you have discovered an itch bug, and the same thing occurs then it is definitely NOT the mac.

Hey Fuidawg,
Was this a one-off? When you do you get this crash? When you try to open ITCH? Does it do this every time? Are you using an external hard drive? If you disconnect the external drive do you still get this crash?
Let me know : )

It happens all the times, It doesn't happen when I open Itch, it's when I'm playing on Itch. The V7 has those cue's 1, 2,3,4,5 .... If cue 1, and 2 has an assigned mark on the song ... 3, 4 and 5 are open ... when playing the song, I would tap one of those empty cues to do like an echo out effect by constantly hitting that cue to fade out .... NOW, when i try to DELETEthat cue again .. the one I used the do that effect out, itch then freezes and throws those errors, happens all the time ... sometime if i keep on hitting an assigned cue, over and over to manual sync a song, it also freezes itch ....
I don't have any external drives attached to it ....
The _Serato_ folder is from my pc that I copied over and replaced the _Serato_ folder that I installed on my new mac ...
If I'm just mixing regularly I think it doesnt freeze, but Im so carefully not to get too busy on the V7 as it causes it to crash ..

it also sounds like it's caught up in the ram, especially when I try to shut down itch and it will NOT shutdown, unless i shut down the computer or force quit it

Are you guys pretty busy to even get a good response to my issue? Any one researching if this is a bug? anyone?

Hmm, could be a bunch of things causing it too crash. I'm sure we can figure it out.
Can you please answer a few more questions for me :
- Have you recently analyzed your library and removed all corrupt files? I need you to be sure you have done that. Any corrupt files in your library can cause crashes like this you don't even have to be playing them! Make sure you remove then all!
- Do you have bluetooth and wi-fi disabled when you DJ? This can cause crashes and hangs too. Make sure you are following everything in this guide : serato.com
- Can you please recreate your databasv2 file? There is a chance it's corrupt and it would be worth recreating it see if this fixes your issue. Please follow this guide here : serato.com
- Does it only seem to crash when you use the cue points in the manner you described above?
Cheers : )

i moved everything to a mac, and yes there are corrupt files, that i see that i never play, i've always had them with my pc, i've disabled all blue toot, wifi, and the energy saver options, I've been following all the documents you have on the discussion forums on macs ... so recreating the database v2 file will loose all my cues as well?

Fuidawg
11:05 PM - 19 October, 2011
it crashes a lot when I'm doing the cue points as i described, 'sometimes' not most of the times it just crashes when I'm hitting the a cue ..

Logan D
2:01 AM - 21 October, 2011
No recreating the databasev2 will not delete any cue points or loops etc. The only thing you will loose is the 'Date added' information for each song. Recreate the database file and see if it fixes/helps.
With the corrupt files, even if you don't play them they can still cause crashes/freezes. Just having them in your library can cause problems. So make sure you have analyzed and removed every corrupt file from your library.
If you do both of these does it fix or help? Let me know. If not I will get one of our developers to check out your crash reports.

Try messing with your USB buffer latency and screen updates, you'll find them under you set up sceen. I had the same problem and figured out that my USB buffer was set too high for my computer. hope that works for ya!

i'm nearly done reanalyzing all the files, removed all the corrupt files (i reopened this files in audacity and reexported them and now Itch doesn't see them as corrupt anymore, I'm reanalyzing it now to make sure i don't have any corrupt files ....

I'll try that too, I think i always have it under 512, this just happens when I'm playing on Itch. The V7 has those cue's 1, 2,3,4,5 .... Will hook it up again tonight and test them ... I returned the first mac as I thought it had bad memory even though the tests came out good...
hopefully removing the corrupt files, and new V2 database will help, but man it was working find on my PC before I got a mac,

i also notice that all the sp6 settings are gone, when restarted the program,
NOW after playing music on it for like 10 minutes, when trying to shut down Serato itch, it's just hanging there, on the Exit ... Yes or No ... and the wheel is just spinning on the mac .... just spinning and spinning ....

Hey Fuidawg,
Logan is away on leave unfortunately which is why there was a lack of response. Sorry we didn't pick this up earlier :(
Can you please let me know what file types you have in your library? Are these all .mp3 or do you have some .m4a or AAC files? Whats the memory/CPU usage like before your crashes? Does it spike up at all? You can test this using Activity Monitor.
Let me know how you get on.
Sam.

I turned the Bluetooth and Airport Off already...I changed the screensaver and Energy setting to never
where is this activity monitor at? nothing else is running on this mac. As a matter of fact it just crashed....

these .m4a extenstion files are ipod mp3 files that I copied from ipods ... It do read them though I think i notice there is a cpu spike to 120's when you 'first' load them on itch then it drops down to the normal 30 or 40 in the Activity Monitor..is that normal?

Let me know how you get on after converting your files as there are some known issues we are aware of with Quicktime decoding AAC and .m4a files and some tag writing issues that could be causing your hangs/crashes.
Let me know how you get on after re-encoding these files.

error out again, it's when i hit the empty cue on the V7 then when i try delete it, thats when it causes the dropout, and shuts down itch ... i've also ran the fix permission thing on the mac but still drops on me ..
im trying to see how to play the songs not from the library ... so don't load the track form the playlists? ... on the pc laptop, when i play music and hit the cues and delete it, NOTHING happens .... i stopped at 2 hours still going ... no erroring out

the only reason I asked was, it doesnt matter how powerfull is your processor. Serato program only run on a single core. Which mean only speed matter. the minimum speed required to run Itch is 2.4GHz. And MBP spec is 2.2GHz or 2.4GHz so which one you have?

As I suspected. In theory, you should be fine. But by many experiences the new CPU gives alot of people problem. I try my NS7fx on a brand new 2011 iMac, and its glitchy, cut off etc. Running on 4 years old laptop 2.8 GHz 4 gig ram 750Gig drive on window, no problem.
I think its a software issue. Serato itch still have alot of bug. N i hope they working very hard to give us some patch in the future update.
Sorry man!
@Serato, ever think to make a program that capable to use multi core CPU? Its 2011 you know.

Hey Fuidawg,
Sorry for the lack of response I've actually been off work for a week. Thanks for the crash report I have emailed them to one of our developers so he can take a look at it when he next gets some free time.
In the meantime I would like to confirm a couple things, apologies if I am repeating myself 1. When you get the cue point crash, does it happen every time with the same files or does it just seem random?
2. Did you recreate your databasev2 file ? This is important make sure you have done this.
3. Did you remove all your corrupt files? I don't suggest reconverting them in Audacity as ITCH may no longer recognize them as corrupt but they might actually still be corrupt. For now it's better if you just remove these files from your library.
4. Roughly how many files do you have in your library? How much free space do you have on your computer?
5. Did you get this problem with version 1.7 of ITCH?
Can you please attach two of the files that you are 100% sure this happens with so I can take a look and try reproduce this.
Let me know. Hopefully the crash report(s) will be looked at later this week.
Cheers : )

No these are random files that cause it to crashes, it is never the same file ... I had some .m4a files that i notice on the Mac's activity monitor everytime I load. I downloaded switch and converted all those m4a files to mp3s and I don't notice the spike anymore on the cpu when i load that files to play ...
2. Did you recreate your databasev2 file ? This is important make sure you have done this.
Yes, I recreated the databasev2 file.
3. Did you remove all your corrupt files? I don't suggest reconverting them in Audacity as ITCH may no longer recognize them as corrupt but they might actually still be corrupt. For now it's better if you just remove these files from your library.
Unfortunately i have reconverted all those files so I do not have any corrupt files showing up now on it. I never did play any corrupt files though, but then as I was reading the forum it mentions that it may still cause the issue if the corrupt files are in the library
4. Roughly how many files do you have in your library? How much free space do you have on your computer?
This is a new MCP that i switched out with Apple, because i thought it was bad hardware, but it did the same thing, It is a 499.25 GB drive, and 258.23 GB of free space left.
5. Did you get this problem with version 1.7 of ITCH?
Never had this problem with 1.7, and never have this problem on my pc laptop that I still have, with the corrupts files in the library as well, the only problem is when i close out itch it throws a generic error all the time i close it!
Can you please attach two of the files that you are 100% sure this happens with so I can take a look and try reproduce this.
I'll have to test this again, this seems to ONLY happen when I try to delete out a cue during play, LUCKILY i had a 4 hour gig last night and a 3 hour gig earlier in the day, and it was fine, I NEVER did try to delete a cue though during the play, i wasn't really hitting the cue buttons that much cause i was afraid it might crash, but it's like when im busy it kinda crashes .... HOPE you guys find something,
I even fixed all the File permission on the mac etc ...

Hey Fuidawg, I'm having a go trying to reproduce this now but not having any luck. I will keep playing around and see how i go.
In the meantime can you please try one thing for me :
Can you close ITCH and go to your 'Music' folder in Finder. Now rename the '_Serato_' folder to 'OLD_Serato_. Now open ITCH, and import a small number of songs to test with. Can you reproduce the problem now? Or does this fix it? Basically I just want to rule out that there is ANYTHING in your Serato folder that is causing this, I'm pretty sure there isn't but I want to confirm this. Let me know if you can reproduce it or not.
When you are finished testing you can get your old ITCH library back by doing this :
Close ITCH and go back into the 'Music' folder again. Now drag the new '_Serato_' folder to your desktop and rename the 'OLD_Serato' folder back to '_Serato_' again. Now when you open ITCH everything will be back to normal.
Let me know if the new Serato folder fixes the problem or whether you still get the same freeze. I'll keep testing here :)

I'll test this and let you know, mind you this has happened to two different mac book pros, I had to return my first new mac os lion, and nearly fought with the mac guys, because my claim was i had a bad mac which to them was very unlikely, but i got the same problem with this new mac ...
I must mention now that after itch is installed, the only files that I copy into the _Serato_ folder are my 1. crates and subcrates and the 2. V2 database file, then I do the rescan tags, and use the locate file option again that's the only thing I do different,
Do you know if there is a way to match the folder structure to crates for the new version of Itch 2.0.1? The reason I copy those crates is so that I don't have to manually recreate them again
but I will try this and let you know ...

When you renamed the Serato folder to test, did you only add a few files into the new library? You didn't add your database and crate files into the new Serato folder did you? If you did can you remake a new Serato folder and this time don't add the database and crate files etc. We want everything in the Serato folder to be new. Your whole library will be blank but that's what we want. Now when you add 5-10 songs can you still reproduce this issue?
I also have a few other things I thought of. Please let me know :
1. Can you please close ITCH and go to (Username) > Library > Preferences, and move the 'com.serato.itch.plist' file onto your desktop. Now open up ITCH. Can you still reproduce this cue-point freeze?
2. Is it any cue point slot in particular? i.e the cue point number 3?
3. Does it only happen to files that already have cue points on them? i.e if you load a file with no cue points, set one then delete it, does it still happen?
Again, sorry this has dragged on for so long but it's a tough one! We will get there in the end. For now just don't delete cue-points while you are out at gigs. Only do it when you are at home testing. I'm getting someone to check out your crash reports, they will get back to me when they have checked it out.
Cheers.

- I renamed the Serato folder and imported new songs, i actually acted about 90 files but they are brand new files, and rescanned all of them, new crates and new everything
I also have a few other things I thought of. Please let me know :

I'll test that ...
2. Is it any cue point slot in particular? i.e the cue point number 3? I haven't paid attention, but it happens to any random cues
3. Does it only happen to files that already have cue points on them? i.e if you load a file with no cue points, set one then delete it, does it still happen?
this are just random files it can be a song with no cue and i delete, and it's never the same file ...

Open Finder, (Username) refers to the name of your username log-in. I.e for me it's LoganDuff > Library > Preferences.
Close ITCH and move the 'com.serato.itch.plist' file to your desktop. Now open ITCH and see if this fixes the problem. Let me know.
Where are these files? In the 'Subcrates' folder of your Serato folder??
Just to confirm, when you remade the Serato folder, your library should have absolutely nothing in it, no crates etc. When you did this, and you added 90 files, did you still have the same freeze when you deleted the cue-points?

In finder can you click on 'Go' (in the top bar) and select 'Go To Folder...',
Now type in '/Users/(the username you use)/Library/Preferences'
i.e for me when I searched i typed in : /Users/LoganD/Library/Preferences
and it came up.
Now when you are in the Preferences folder you should be able to find the 'com.apple.serato.itch.plist' file. Now you can try this...

This is the wrong file, you need to move this file to your desktop : 'com.apple.serato.itch.plist' not the 'com.appleConsole.plist' file.
Can you find that the 'com.apple.serato.itch.plist' file?
A new version of ITCH will be going into Public Beta shortly so i would like to get you to try that as soon as it comes out. Which should be later today or tomorrow. I'll give you a link when it does.

Yeah for Mac just run the installer and the ITCH application will already be named 'Beta...' so you don't have to do anything.
I'm pretty sure with Windows you will still need to rename the ITCH exe file before you run the installer.
No you don't need to reanalyze your files.
