with that said... R-Tistic, you said something a while back on twitter if i recall correctly about how there's been a shift in the clubs from trap to afrobeats and higher bpms. Would you care to drop some knowledge in here about the different crowds you play to and what they seem to be gravitating to at the moment?
I'm partly asking because I'll be returning to a more rap oriented club where I used to play before the pandemic this summer, after a few years of playing open format stuff (and very little trap) for mostly very young crowd, but also because I trust your ear and want to understand what's happening right now.
So to me, there's starting to be a huge divide between crowds who just enjoy dancing and partying, versus the bottle popper flex scene.
The bottle poppers mainly want to hear new, trendy Trap, and the hood Trap. But the dance floor type crowds, along with bar crowds, day party crowds, special event/traveling party crowds...they still get more excited for throwbacks, Twerk songs, and Afrobeats.
So with new music, the non bottle crowds love the Glorilla FnF and Tomorrow, Ice Spice, Pound town, Beyonce's album, Red Ruby Da Sleeze, Just wanna rock, Don't play with it, Players (mainly the Busta remix), and some may even want to hear a SZA type track at the end. I'll even say it's more driven by the women, while the bottle crowds are driven by the men and either the more aggressive type music, or the vibey Trap. So that would mean Hotel lobby, 2 Million up, Me or sum, Pop out, and all the songs from 2020-2022 still work like Who want smoke and Hellcats & Trackhawks.
Granted, this is L.A. where overall, most crowds that aren't bottle types just don't like the new slower Trap as much. But even when I've gone to Atlanta, DC, and Florida, it felt similar. The bottle crowds and young 18-23 crowds preferred the Trap and slower music, but the dancing hype crowds at spots like Rum Punch Brunch and Everyday people def wanted the faster, higher energy songs.
