DJ Zimmie - Seratocast 77

The video for Dr. Dre’s “Nuthin’ But A G Thang” started my love affair with West Coast G Funk culture. I was immediately drawn not only to the sounds but also the aesthetics.

The music took all my favorite hip­hop elements and laid them over smooth, funky, soulful samples. And the visuals were the cherry on top. Lowriders, gorgeous yet dangerous women and since it’s always Summer in California, BBQs.

The “You Gots To Grill” mix series is the soundtrack to those BBQs. Sample­based hip­hop, G Funk, soul classics and a few left turns to keep the ladies happy while the fellas are slappin’ dominos. Get you a plate.
