getting a whole new rig: need laptop suggestions

upgrading from an iDJ2 and need some advice. anyone recently purchased a laptop to go with a shiny new VCI-300? I'm looking at a couple of options right now and I'd appreciate some suggestions if anyone knows of a specific lappy that kicks butt.
I'm not against a mac, I was looking at the $1500 2.4ghz black macbook (dont need a macbook pro because I dont need a video card for $600, thank you) but its a little steep in terms of price, and I had seen that some new ones were coming out in october some time.
mainly i have been looking at an ASUS lappy for about $1299 I think. has mostly better specs than the apple but is as boring looking as possible. all the add on shit on PC laptops irks me. dont need a fingerprint reader or mp3 player controls thanks. it will do the job, but now I'm stuck deciding whether the extra $300, no video card, and compatibility issues are worth getting something that is simply prettier.

I was a long time PC user (still am) and I purchased a mac late last year. I'd buy another mac if it came down to it. I hear they may be releasing new ones very soon, so I'd wait out the rumor to see what they're going to do if you're gonna go the mac route. If you go the PC route, I personally would avoid using Vista if possible.
