Serato Video General Discussion

Talk about Serato Video and Video-SL.

Installing VSL on multiple laptops

DJ Bentley 12:55 AM - 7 January, 2008
While I appreciate everyone’s response to my question, it is really directed to be answered by the moderators. (i.e. creators of Video-SL fully functional version)

I currently own two laptops that I use for my entertainment business (Redundancy). Will I be allowed to install one copy of the fully functional version of VSL on both machines without paying for two licenses/downloads?

BUMP. Interested to hear Seratos response to this.

I didn't get an answer to it from the mods in my post either:

I am not a mod, but this is in a string already.
U will buy a lisence, and authorize one machine per liscence. If you want to chane laptops, you will have to de-authorize the 1 st laptop, then use the same liscence to authorize on your second machine.
So, you will need 2 liscences for 2 machines to work simultaneouly. But DON'T listen to me. I am not a mod

The TTM57 ALONE should be the "license holder".

PCDJ used to (and might still) have an online license validation system built in and it was a nightmare (for the 15 minutes that I was a PCDJ user).

I don't want this plug-in to get pirated just as much as Serato. However, this license process better be transparent (or close to it).

An additional hardware dongle seems like the best method.

HELL NO!!! i use different TTM57s all the time.. the code should be on the LAPTOP!!! or better yet nested in the VIDEO library, so I only have to mess with it when using a ALL VIDEO EXTERNAL DRIVE!!!

Currently, a club DJ can have Serato installed on his laptop and go to clubs that have serato harware and not actually need to own serato himself. Hence, if a club makes the investment for video djing, they should be able to retain the video-sl license in their hardware and not require every club jock in the rotation to own their own copy of video-sl just so they can all use the same mixer.

Serato's license model has always placed ownership with the hardware and that's how it should stay.

If you have multiple ttm-57s and only one laptop, transferring the license from one ttm57 to the next should be no problem for you. The more likely situation is that you have multiple laptops to go along with your multiple ttm-57s and could probably benefit from an additional video-sl license so your company can use more than one of those systems at once.

I AGREE KEEP THA LICENSE WIT THE HARDWARE

besides its hard enough getting a legit serato to act stable who da hell wants to take a chance djing wit a pirated version ...lol

This is tough. I have my own 57SL that I will take into one club (once the video releases). However the other club has thier own 57SL. (I don't want to take my SL anywhere, because I don't want it to get messed up, or spilled on or whatever!)
I will also potentially be running off one of two laptops.... Primarily MBP, but if something goes down, maybe my MB as a back-up. So I'm not sure the what solution I perfer.

not sure what I prefer either but there has to be some type of control otherwise the serial numbers will just get posted all over the web.

the logic of having the hardware be the host of license is great, but doesn't cover ALL cases.
eder 9:28 PM - 10 January, 2008
lol we can always just do an iLok...

Can I authorize VIDEO-SL on a second computer, or must I obtain a second license?
The license agreement for VIDEO-SL states that it can only be used on one computer at a time. If you want to use VIDEO-SL on a secondary (backup) system as well, but not simultaneously, a second installation is included in your license provided you are not running it at the same time as your main system.

Activating and running VIDEO-SL on more than one machine simultaneously is a violation of the license agreement and will result in the permanent de-activation of your serial number.
