Hottest Latin/Reggaeton ClubTracks: 2012 Edition

BigDookie 9:15 PM - 10 April, 2012
LOL. Might as well do it for this genre as well.

I'm sick of playing Gasolina and Dale, Tra etc. I know there are more out there and so hopefully some latin djs can throw down.

Don Omar - Danza Kuduro
Daddy Yankee - Lovumba
Nayer - Suavemente
spicaly 2:25 AM - 11 April, 2012
Juan Magan - Bailando Por El Mundo
Prince Royce - Las Cosas Pequenas
Farruko - Hoy
DJ Remy USA 3:59 PM - 12 April, 2012
Wow we are just giving it all away now....im a little bit. I kinda pride myself being the few that can really play the latin genre without being a latino...well full latino. What most dont realize are that the Latin genre has so many sub genres that you have to know. You can mix these songs in just any order or it wont make sense

Juan Magan - Bailando Por El Mundo (Mambo Urbano aka new merengue)
Prince Royce - Las Cosas Pequenas (Bachata)
Farruko - Hoy (I think this merengue as well I have to check)

point is a guy will think he can play these songs in the same set and you cant
spicaly 4:07 PM - 12 April, 2012
oh yeah of course not, i'd hope they know their music a little before just trying those songs.... those are the latin songs working most in my area, the farruko was the only reggaeton

dale pal piso from watussi does well also
DJ Remy USA 4:13 PM - 12 April, 2012
I will post some of top latin tracks

Romeo Santos - Mi santa
Romeo Santo ft Usher - Promise
El Sujeto ft Arcangel - Dile a tu marido
Tito Bambino - El patron

Latin music is one of those generes were you can play old tracks during peak hour and the place still go off. I love playing latin music over any other genre next to house Im down with the whole fist pump movement.

Shameless plus (Promise its the last time)

Check me every friday from 6-8pm eastern time. I do latin mix show gaining popularity on www.cocproduction.com

reggeaton still does very well its just not peak time music anymore. Plus if your gonna play reggeaton you better off playing dembow at least out here on the east coast but we have a lot of dominicans in DC so it goes. I hate that really slow perreo reggeaton to slow I let the other DJs play it

whats your ethnicity, latin crowds are different depending on where they are from. yes your correct rabiosa is not a banger anymore and it never was in my town. The original Rabiosa by El cata was a banger in my town in 2009 when it came out...but like I said it all depends on where you are.

tribal is very northen Mexico infuenced ( MONTEREY). People from Mexico. Thas what's hot, DJ cheeko beat, erick rincon, dj motto.

as far as reggeaton. that shit is dead and gonna be dead.
as far as any merenge, that shit is dead.

My town is Mexican Americans, Texans, and a hint of Puerto Ricans.
the_black_one 7:52 PM - 13 April, 2012
as far as contributing to this discussion, there is not music for me to contribute other than danza kuduro that was a huge hit but it's "OLD" not new or considered a bannger.

The "LATIN" format is in the dump.
AustinG 7:56 PM - 13 April, 2012
One of my favorites Que Tengo Que Hacer (House Remix) chheaa!

I have a daughter with a girl from Peru who loves to salsa and listen to latin music. It didn't take long for me to fall in love with those sounds, its addictive! You can't NOT dance when hearing latin music.
spicaly 8:01 PM - 13 April, 2012
ok so you live in a town that barely has any puerto ricans (majority of people listening to reggaeton) and you complain its dead.... of course it is where you live

right now where im at tampa fl, i'd say reggaeton has fallen off considerably from where it was in 2006, but you will still find packed clubs and artists being booked, as this town has a bigger puerto rican and dominican population.... i've dj'd nights of nothing but merengue and bachata the whole night

Which takes us back to the fact that each region/area of the US has a different take on what is hot or not. Having said that, most of the songs that have been mentioned before on this thread will probably work on the 'majority' of the Latin markets in the US

So given your clientele yes I'm sure in your area Reggaeton and Merengue are dead for sure (thought I doubt thats the case with the hint of Puerto Ricans)

well there you go mexicans are on whole different vibe that carribean latinos. Mexicans never really vibed with reggeaton anyways just the popular songs to be honest.....

keep that cumbia and all the mexican regional music
DJ Remy USA 12:00 AM - 14 April, 2012

question as far as bachata, merengue, and salsa's goes is a song really ever to old to play? Im finding new music is good but peeps still want the older stuff
haze324 7:02 AM - 14 April, 2012
^ the older jams are always the hits. Now with bachata I find its a little different, hardcore bachata folks ask me for the latest and greatest ---- but playing an open format set, I stick to the classics there too. Keeps everyone happy.

If "latin music" isn't working, why is a song like "Danza Kuduro" clearly a universal /crossover latin jam that seems to fit in with just about any set? I've heard this song at everything from indie-rock nights to biker bars to top40 clubs.

It depends on the location, but it seems like most "latin" songs that have similar mass appeal come off as ultra-silly to "non-latin" crowds.

What is it that isn't working for most crowds?

More importantly, what are some other comparable songs that our experienced latin DJs can recommend (i.e. still work well in a primarily hip-hop or club set OR songs YOU think should be huge/crossover)?
DJ Remy USA 8:24 PM - 1 May, 2012

for reggaeton just stick with them popular artists Farruko, J. Alvarez, Tony Dize, Daddy Yankee, Plan B, Wisin y Yandel, Don Omar, De La Ghetto, Ñejo, Arcangel, Jowell y Randy.

search 2012 of any of those artists and its most certainly a hit in latin countries, can't speak for the US.

Im sorry but I have to disagree. Ive been a dj for 20 years in the L.A. area (lotta Mexicans) and I find that they are pretty easy to please IF you know your Mexican music. There are many different types of Mexican music. Do you know the difference between banda, corridos, nortenas, rancheras, duranguense, mariachi, quebradita, tambora? Ive been to parties where they ask for banda and the dj will play a corrido for example. You have to remember that Mexico is a huge country and people from different regions like different types of music. People from Mexico City for example will generally like other types of music as well like merengue, cumbia, sonidero, salsa. Mexicans from Sinaloa will generally be more into banda, corridos, duranguense, nortenas. Im not saying that they all Mexicans like a particular style of Mexican music im just saying what people from different regions of Mexico generally like. If they ask for some corridos dont bust out with some Vicente Fernandez.

I live in East Los Angeles (95% Mexican) but ive djed all over L.A for the past 7 yrs. As a Salvadorian/Mexican myself, i can honestly say that mexicans are VERY narrow minded in musical taste here in So Cal. If its not what they want to hear, they wont even dance to it or give it a fair chance... ESPECIALLY the very "Paisa" ones... My experiences djing for mexicans has always been troublesome meaning that for them it has to be a dj that really knows his mexican genres and that strictly sticks to it all night long. They are extremely hard to satisfy. Very frustrating for an open format dj's like myself... So you arent the only one crowdCTRL
Dj_Dropz_ 8:45 AM - 2 May, 2012
But for the most part Spanish music varies by region... Play a new reggeaton record in L.A. and ppl will look at you funny and clear the floor, but in Miami or in New York im sure they will dance their asses off... Narco Corridos are still the "It" thing here in So Cal and i doubt its getting play anywhere other then So Cal or Texas... You Need to be up on point with the spanish in your region since it constantly changes and something else takes its place on a constant basis... cant say the same for hip-hop or Electro since thats on a national level getting airplay all over...

Listen to Reggaeton Cubano/Cubaton, maybe Salsaton, Gente de Zona, Los 4, Candyman, Eddy K .... Cuban Reggaeton is extremely dancable but at the end depends on your crowd

I agree with this but this is another example of music that will tear the roof off in a certain region (Miami) but would probably clear the floor in most other places/regions. For those that dont know or are not too familiar with the Cubaton/Reggaeton Cubano genre is pretty much a fusion of Reggaeton and Timba/Salsa/Salsaton. I should mention Cubaton has surpassed the 'regular' boricua reggaeton here in Miami

This is a quick cubaton mix i did a few months back www.mixcrate.com
DJ Remy USA 2:17 PM - 2 May, 2012
That cubaton shit is tight who's plays tracks off the Zumba videos? I do cause some of them shit go off and people be dancing. Regular reggeaton is dope but it is kinda hit or miss depending on the crowd. They wanna hear dominican dembow a lot if the time. That shit is like reggeaton on perico

My town is Mexican Americans, Texans, and a hint of Puerto Ricans.

This right here is exactly y u can't agree with any of the songs that have been posted. Is all about what works in your area. Let me start off by stating that In no way am I trying to offend or criticize the Mexican culture!!! but in my experience Mexicans are the most narrow minded people when it comes to music! If is not Banda or Nortenas or Corridos or any of the other Mexican genres they are not having it!! They cannot and will not dance to a Bachata, Salsa, Merengue song...again this has been my personal experience and I may be wrong!

the_black_one I GUARANTEE u what works on ur side of the world does not work here in Miami or NY! So whatever songs u want to post that you may think is hot or a banger right now I'll probably tell u that it is dead too.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I dont see where you are disagreeing with me?? I think when you say that Mexicans are pretty easy to please IF you know your Mexican music that's pretty much saying what I had said before (in my experience Mexicans are the most narrow minded people when it comes to music! If is not Banda or Nortenas or Corridos or any of the other Mexican genres they are not having it). My point was that if it is not Mexican music then they dont care for it, hence musically narrow minded

Agreed??

I know what your saying. My guess is you've been doing gigs for "Paisa"Mexicans. My last few gigs I did for Mexicans I played mostly hip hop, salsa, merengue, reggaeton, cumbia, and a few banda songs. Im doing a party May 19th for some paisa Mexicans and all they want is corridos and banda. I know its gonna be a pain in the butt. I dont want to offend anyone put the paisa Mexicans are the equivalent to southern rednecks. How can you tell a paisa Mexican? Well just like Jeff Foxworthys list of "You might be a redneck" Heres my "You might be a paisa" list... feel free to add your own..

1. You drive a truck with a bull on the side of the door and a"ZACATECAS" decal on the rear window

2. You have a silk shirt with a picture of a rooster on it.

3. Your orange ostrich boots match your belt and vest.

4. You get to the club/party with garden equipment in the back of your truck.

5. You threaten to cut the dj's balls off if he doesnt play some Chalino Sanchez

I didnt make these up. These are real things Ive seen from past gigs.

question as far as bachata, merengue, and salsa's goes is a song really ever to old to play? Im finding new music is good but peeps still want the older stuff

Remy,

It depends on your crowd's age. If it's a younger crowd newer and older stuff is good but if it's an older crowd, they want the old stuff mostly.

I usually cater to the older crowd more cause they're the spenders. Plus the younger crowd usually just party. Older crowd listens.

Agree?

what he said no need to try and stay updated on that if you never play it. I crate it but really unless you live in uptown near Washington Heights or the Bronx you dont need the latest on Dembow cause they are the only ones that know because it comes right out of those PJs in the heights

i just noticed this thread.
on latin Nite i spin Bachata, Cumbia, Merengue (mambo), reggaeton/dembow and Salsa.
we have a lot of purists here though....they really want to dance and God forgive me if I try to mix a bachata or Salsa song and ruin their finale of their dance.
the only thing "new" that is popular here lately is Lil Lito, Something Original and some of the Leslie Grace bachata remakes.
i will put up a list later of my floor fillers later.

any reggaeton under 90BPM better have been really popular already before I play it or it won't move the crowd. Dembow is picking up slowly overseas.

went to DR, heard this song... the only word i can remember is champayna or something like that. i thought it was spanish for champagne or champion, but couldnt find nothing. also thought it was a pitbull. heard it at the resort a few times then at coco bongo so i know it has to be a popular song. any ideas?

Can we recommend Spotify playlist? That is how I am obtaining most of my new Music

Latin Party Anthems -> open.spotify.com

I still have some holes in my spanish party crate I need filled but I just dont know the song titles or who sings them. Just know the beats when I hear them on the radio or when someone plays them at clubs.
Culprit 1:08 AM - 6 June, 2017
Spotify Latino Playlist -> open.spotify.com

I can attest the majority of the stuff on these playlist get tons of rotation in spots I frequently perform in Southern California. Los Angeles, Fullerton, Pasadena, Santa Ana.
DJ Marv the Maverick 7:02 AM - 21 June, 2017
So my residency decided to host a Latin Party this Sunday and the Latin DJ I was hoping to hire hasn't yet confirmed his attendance. Looks like I'm going to have to wing it.

Besides the usual 15 mins of Latin I play during open format nights I haven't done an entire Latin event.

The crowd wouldn't be hardcore, it will definitely be a mix of Irish, Spanish, Europeans. I plan to keep it mainstream Salsa, Bachata, Mambo, Pop and Reggaeton.

Hola familia (Found fitting to start with that given the thread), two list below of all my tracks for this year. Obviously not everything existing but for those who normally don't play latin music it should be more than enough.

I have things separated by tracks i really like with 5 Stars and 4 Star for tracks i like but feel more like openers. Tried my best to have explicit tracks marked with (Dirty) at the end of the name. Also included links to the playlist for those with apple music.

I'll keep the playlist in my library and update them as i add more tracks.
