Hi, I bought an NS7 today and my Serato Itch software will not recognize that it is connected. In either the 1.4 version of Itch or the 2.0.1 version. In the 1.4 version I get, "Error: Failed to connect to audio" followed by, "Hardware Disconnected". When I go into the NS7 control panel on my computer it says that my NS7 is connected though. So, clearly an issue with Serato Itch. I've uninstalled my drivers, reinstalled them, uninstalled Itch, reinstalled it, and even did a System Restore on my laptop and tried it all again and nothing works. This is very aggravating to me. Please help!

Hi paulofrosty,

Could you please go into your control panel>sound and tell me if you can select it as a sound card?

Could you please also provide me with your computer specs?

Cheers :D
paulofrosty 6:41 AM - 25 November, 2011
So, I got it to work on my mom's laptop, but it won't work on mine. She has 32bit Win7 and I have 64 bit Win7.

I also could select it in my control panel under sound and make it my default device and whatnot.

Computer specs:

Dell XPS M1730 Laptop
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.50 GHz
4 GB Ram
Win7 64 Bit

Ok thanks.

Could you please try making sure you have the latest drivers installed?www.numark.com

Are you using any other USB device with your computer? USB mouse/hub/external drive connected?
paulofrosty 6:36 AM - 28 November, 2011
Yes, I have tried the latest drivers.
No other USB device is being used at the same time.
From researching the forums I have come to the conclusion that the Numark 64 bit drivers do not work properly.

If you go into Control Panel>Device Manager, does it show up anywhere in there?

It could be in either "sound, video and game controllers" or it could be in "universal serial bus controllers". It may not be listed as "Numark" or "NS7" it may just be called "USB composite device" or "Unknown USB device".

To help you identify, unplug/plug in the device and you should see a new device appearing and reappearing.

Let me know what you find.
paulofrosty 10:26 PM - 28 November, 2011
It shows up as, "Numark NS7" under Unidentified and also when I go directly into my sound cards and can pick which one I want to be the default, setting it as the default does nothing.
On my NS7 the USB button blinks red when connected to my laptop, whereas it was solid red when it worked on my mom's Windows 7 32 bit laptop.

Ok, so with the NS7 plugged in, are you able to to right click, then "remove/uninstall" the device from where ever it appears in the device manager lists.

Then unplug the NS7, then plug it back in again.

Can you tell me what happens now? Does it appear in the device manager?
paulofrosty 10:43 PM - 28 November, 2011
Click, "remove/uninstall"? Or just see if this option is available?
Serato, Support
Martin C 10:45 PM - 28 November, 2011
Yep, right click "uninstall" and it should remove it from the list.
paulofrosty 12:20 AM - 29 November, 2011
Then plug it back in?
Serato, Support
Martin C 12:34 AM - 29 November, 2011
Correct :D Let me know what happens when you plug it back in.

-Does it appear at all?
-Which section does it appear in?
-What is the device called?

Thanks :)
paulofrosty 12:41 AM - 29 November, 2011
It immediately reinstalls the driver, Numark 2.9.13
It appears in the same section and appears as the Numark NS7 Driver

Ok, could you please try running the ITCH installer again with the hardware connected?

If this doesn't help then you will need to tell me if the NS7 is sending MIDI or not.

There a detailed explanation how to do this here: serato.com

You will need to download a program called "MIDI-OX".

Let me know how you get on, and if you need any help through the process.
paulofrosty 3:23 AM - 29 November, 2011
The red USB light on my NS7 blinks constantly, and the MIDI logo blinks in ITCH as well.

Martin C 3:34 AM - 29 November, 2011
Could you please provide me with a screen shot of ITCH with the MIDI light?

Martin C 3:45 AM - 29 November, 2011
I found this information from a Numark Support Person.

Quote:
A blinking LED indicates that your computers USB card is dropping the comunication with the unit this can be caused by driver issues such as outdated graphics cards or USB chipsets reducing performance. A common cause of this can be IRQ conflicts.

Please check out this link it will show you how to check if there any conflicts.
If you are not sure post up screenshots of your IRQ list here and I will check them out for you.

Are you able to do this? Did you check out MIDI-OX?
paulofrosty 4:01 AM - 29 November, 2011
Thank you I'll look into this and get back to you if this does not work.
Serato, Support
Martin C 4:09 AM - 29 November, 2011
Thanks very much! Let me know how it goes :D
paulofrosty 6:41 AM - 29 November, 2011
I reinstalled my graphics card driver, but I'm not sure what to do about the USB card, or if there's any drivers to fix this.

Martin C 1:29 AM - 30 November, 2011
Did you install MIDI-OX? What kind of USB card do you have?
paulofrosty 3:19 AM - 30 November, 2011
I am not sure how to check what kind of USB card I have.
Serato, Support
Martin C 3:35 AM - 30 November, 2011
Perhaps just try MIDI-OX first before going any further with the updates. I would be interested to know if it is sending MIDI properly.

Cheers.
paulofrosty 12:02 AM - 3 December, 2011
Devices and Printers: Numark USB Audio Device and Numark NSFX show up.
Light still blinks red on the controller. Midi light in Itch goes from orange to red, blinking.
paulofrosty 12:06 AM - 3 December, 2011
those both show up under unspecified and I cannot right click and say remove or uninstall, that option is not available for either.
paulofrosty 12:35 AM - 3 December, 2011
Midi OX seems to be registering everything. Every time I put a button, it registers it and it shows up for on and off, etc. So it must be my USB card.
paulofrosty 1:04 AM - 3 December, 2011
The USB light still blinks on the controller. Nothing has gotten this to work. I really don't want to have to return my controller, but nothing seems to fix this issue.

So are you sure that you ran the latest Numark 64 bit drivers and not the 32 bit drivers?

Here is the link: www.numark.com

I know you said you did already but its worth double checking because its sounding more and more like driver issues, and as you mentioned your Moms 32-bit computer can run connect to the NS7 fine.

Please go to the device manager again, right click and remove the NS7, uninstall the drivers and then reinstall the 64 bit drivers in the link I posted above.

Thanks for your patience :)
paulofrosty 10:51 PM - 4 December, 2011
I have installed the 64 bit drivers plenty of times and uninstalled them with no success at all. I have no idea what the issue is.

Martin C 12:08 AM - 5 December, 2011
Ok and when you connect the NS7 are you able to go into the setup and ensure the firmware is updated? This will be in the hardware tab.

If you aren't able to do it on your computer, can you please update the firmware by using your Moms computer?
paulofrosty 1:00 AM - 5 December, 2011
Update the firmware for the NS7? How can I do this?
Serato, Support
Martin C 1:35 AM - 5 December, 2011
Ok I recommend, that if possible you connect the NS7 to your Moms computer, open ITCH then go to the hardware tab in the setup screen.

There should be a box on the left that says "firmware". It will either be up to date, or will allow you to click a link which will download an update from the internet. This updates the firmware onboard your NS7 controller so you will only have to do this once.
paulofrosty 3:31 AM - 5 December, 2011
In the 64 bit drivers an NS7 firmware updater comes with it and I used that to update it. Should I still double check if I need to update it more?
Serato, Support
Martin C 3:41 AM - 5 December, 2011
Yes, please do if that is possible! Just to double check in the ITCH program.

I checked the firmware and it was up to date. I also made sure ITCH itself was up to date.

Ok, just to double check something, if you select the NS7 as your default sound card for output/playback, then you play music in iTunes or another media player, does the music go through the NS7?

You will have to plug in your headphones or something to the output of the NS7 to test this.

Also, could you please try running a DPC trace report tool? There are instructions on how to do this here: serato.com

Thanks :)
paulofrosty 2:32 AM - 22 December, 2011
If I set the NS7 as my default sound card and try to play a song in iTunes the song won't even play. It just sits there and makes no noise and does not move at all.

Now I'm going to run the DPC trace report.
paulofrosty 2:40 AM - 22 December, 2011
I attached the file. I don't see it though.
Serato, Support
Martin C 2:48 AM - 22 December, 2011
I can't see anything either, please try attaching the file again.
paulofrosty 6:38 AM - 22 December, 2011
It just says, "error success" or "your file is uploading. depending on the file size this may take some time." and it just sits there forever.
Serato, Support
Martin C 1:29 AM - 23 December, 2011
Ok, could you please try sending it via email to support@serato.com and I will have look at it there :)

Thanks
paulofrosty 10:33 AM - 23 December, 2011
It cannot be uploaded because the file is 0 bytes. I did everything you said to do.

Martin C 9:51 PM - 23 December, 2011
So when you created the report to a .txt file, are you able to look at the file on your computer, or has the report not been created at all and the .txt file is blank?

Are you sure you followed steps 1-7 correctly as described here: serato.com
paulofrosty 10:39 PM - 23 December, 2011
It created the .txt file. And it's blank. I followed the steps correctly also. I played a song in ITCH, although it says hardware disconnected, and had the NS7 plugged in and did the report.

Hi paulofrosty,

I am getting in touch with Numark for some further assistance with this. I have helped users with similar problems but have usually managed to solve it by now.

I will let you know as soon as I receive contact, and hopefully a Numark representative can solve the problem :)
paulofrosty 8:59 PM - 9 January, 2012
Have you heard anything from Numark? This is ridiculous that this does not work.
Serato, Support
Martin C 9:32 PM - 9 January, 2012
Hey, sorry I have not received anything back yet, it is possible the person I tried to contact is still on holiday.

I will try and email someone else now.

I suggest you also make contact via this support form and link them to this thread so they can see all the info and things we have tried so far: www.numark.com
paulofrosty 7:40 PM - 10 January, 2012
That form does not work. It says, "The following errors occured while processing your form input. You did not enter one or more of the required fields. Please go back and try again."

Martin C 3:05 AM - 11 January, 2012
Im sorry, I don't know why that would be. You could try calling the number at the top?

I have made an email so I am still awaiting a reply myself. Thanks for your patience :)
paulofrosty 3:50 AM - 11 January, 2012

Martin C 12:11 PM - 28 January, 2012
Hey paulofrosty, did anyone from Numark get in contact with you, or did you manage to get in contact with them perhaps?
paulofrosty 8:12 PM - 28 January, 2012
No they did not contact me and that form you sent me to contact them did not work.
Serato, Support
Martin C 11:54 PM - 28 January, 2012
Ok, perhaps you might be able to try these contacts here:

USA
NS7, V7 & NSFX
Phone: +1 (401) 658 3131 ext. 1404
(Mon–Fri, 8:30am–4:30pm EST)
Email Support: www.numark.com

And try the filling out the form again, making sure you fill out ALL boxes.

So your unit is still working perfectly with your Moms computer, but not your own? Did you try using different USB ports on your computer?

The hardware is not faulty if it can work on your Moms computer, and also, what we do know is that it is recognizing it as a MIDI device on your computer AND an audio device, but for some reason the audio part of it does not function correctly, as you said you are unable to use it as a sound card.

As I mentioned earlier in this thread that I found some information from a Numark Support person, with a situation that accurately describes what you are experiencing. Here is that thread: serato.com

Although the issue isn't definitely resolved as the user never replies after the last post, what do you think? Does it sound like what you are experiencing?

Really appreciate your patience Paul!
