check out the terms and conditions. it's likely plenty of people won't qualify for the required offers.

It's a scam, a pyramid, a ponzi scheme, whatever you want to call it. A few people will (might) get their gifts. The vast majority won't.

What do they usually say: "If it's too good to be true, it probably is." ;-)

You can't get a free ipod, but you CAN get a discounted one. A little birdie told me that you can order 15-20% discounted ipod if you're enrolled in a college institution.
Even if you technically AREN'T enrolled you can still say that you are and get a discount on your ipod, they don't check records like they say... apparently.
I haven't done this, but apparently friends of mine have. However, you'd probably be better shopping around and finding the best deal on it. I bought mine from a 3rd party for much, much lower than the discount could have ever offered. Just use Froogle!

I believe he is speaking about the discount straight from Apple, either at one of their stores or online. It is closer to 10% however, $30 off either model. If you go to a store you just have to show them a student ID, it really doesn't really matter if your attending school or not. Online you just go to education discounts on the store page, select a school, and you will be able to receive discounts on pretty much anything. They also run no check to see if you are actually in school online.

It may be 10% in some areas. I used my girlfriends student account to buy my powerbook and got 15%. Some people have told me it's where you go to school...I dunno really.
Some good stores to look at for ipods:
I bought mine from these people, they're pretty sweet..

This looks like a good one too..
www.ctistore.com
Of course these are all the 3rd Gen IPods and the apple store has the new 4th Gen. If you get the serial code from apple you can search froogle for it. Might not be THAT cheap, personally I love the 3rd Gen more...I like the feel of the touch buttons ;)
