depakote 12:18 AM - 23 August, 2004
Are you a SSL tester Kaseem?
Lord Kaseem 5:40 PM - 23 August, 2004
What up people's. I hooked Up with Ase in 92 when SteadyPace had a child and couldn't travel. Yeah, I produced a couple songs and had alot of input on the Sitting on Chrome Album.I Pronounce it Ser Rae tow... Because it reminds me of Shredding(ya know, cutting scratching.) I thought that was how it was pronounced that way, but I still say it my way. Oh yeah, to inspecta J, We had a place in New York that Primo put us on to, where you could get as little as 6 records but you had to pay a pressing fee of like $300 or something like that. I actually have the instrumentals to All Ase's joints. We use to kill because we had a live dj and could set the stage show up for any region of the country. I still work with Lord Digga, and his Lil brother Stimuli. The Inc fell out because of Money(what else). I'm back to Doing what I do, Djing in the clubs and Producing. Ase has a new Album out but we haven't spoke since Last year. And No Im not a SSL tester, I'm just enthusiastic that they had a nigga like me in mind when they made SSL. Now I can compete with Mixtape cats on the exclusive stuff, And I can One up them because I can actually DJ, not just Scream....NEEEW SHiiiiit(echo)....ExxxCluuuusive!!!(echo).. LOL. I also made the tape because I was trying to explain to my dj friends that they don't need cdj's, but they live in NY and I live In Baltimore Now, and no one ever demo's software for some reason.
depakote 6:11 PM - 23 August, 2004
Your ahead of the pack Kaseem! I don't understand the purists that will only spin original pressings. SSL keeps it real while taking the art form to the next level! I don't believe there is any way to deny that! I can't stand those DJ's that just holler over their mix, although I have to admit those European cats that speak with a Jamaican accent are quite amusing! I know you are down with the old school as am I but was wondering what you thought of some the new school crews like Def Jux. (I think that cats like Aesop Rock are definitely taking it to a new level) Peace!
Lord Kaseem 7:01 PM - 23 August, 2004
Yeah, I actually feel Like I am keeping it real, and being a purist. I'm using vinyl still. No one can deny that. The people that I spoke to actually seemed like they were mad that I had something like this. They work for radio stations and know they have an exclusive advantage. Serato leveled the playing field now. They actually hope it doesn't work, But it does...perfectly. And now you have to out dj me now, not out exclusive me..... I got that new Game joint "westside story" and I'm killing it. And I got the Whole M.O.P. Joint and the New Mase, and doing tricks with it...lol. The same dude's telling me to keep it real are using CDJ's. I'm using Vinyl... it may be hooked up to a computer, but it's vinyl...fuck you. Yeah I like Aesop Rock and alot of those Def Jux. In the next couple of years one of those dudes could emerge out of the underground with a hit, sort of how Slum Village slow walked it. I actually Miss people Like Canibus who were sabotaged in the game because of just being too damn talented. If B.I.G. didn't get with Puff the same could have happend to him. You have to take raw talent and mold it without corrupting it. Imagine Canibus over the Kanye Beats or the Take over beat, or even that Ether instrumental. These talented rappers have to learn how to pick beats. If not they allow people character defimate them by calling them too complicated...or spaced out. I just said about a month ago the the kid Grapf would make more noise if he got with Rocafella... low and behold he's on The Roc. And Dame is not releasing nothing with wack beats...my fault enough philosophy... Scratch on...
depakote 7:24 PM - 23 August, 2004
That's why I like the Def Jux crew. They are on their own tip and could give a fuck if they don't fit into the mainstream sound. Not too many rappers try to do anything different anymore, it's all about flash over skill and originality: being iced out in the video, flashing money and being around hot cars and hoes. It's so contrived and monotonous! Even though acts like Cannibal Ox may be on a whole different tip I think they are keeping it real in the sense that are original and trying something new. That's what I thought Hip Hop was about. That's just my opinion though...
InspecDa-J 9:43 PM - 23 August, 2004
Should i be callin Masta Ace - Ase?
Purist's will always win. CDj's will always loose. SSL will just piss purists off.

Yo lord da OG round ma area in england has Sittin on chrome on vinal. Plus hes got some of his albums on CD.
As dis is a serato forum and not hiphop discussion ill keep dis dis simplist i can keep it.
Canibus is definetly cool. Need mo raw lyrics which some of dem unforgettable canibus beats.. Dont need him to work wid kayne west coz he sux. N e rocafella after 1995 sux which was when da label was pretty much born.
Def jux suck.. C rayz-wayz has some good lines but most beats aint worth a listen.
Yo lord yo spinnin mase's new shiat - rapper turned rev lol not shure bout mase now hes totaly goin fo record sales.. His lyrix are weak on his last two albums.. We need 14 yr old girls n all dat fucked up shiat he used to chat bout.
I aint heard of kid Grapf but if hes down wid rocafella den i dont wanna get to know..
Lord do yo spin yo own beats?
Have yo met Marley Marl?

If yo wanna know what i spin n juggle its da rare shiat like dark room famalia?
To get dem hoes doin dere thang gotta pump da Raheem from geto boyz. All of his material is party shiat..
Too much rap espescially dem gankstas in other country's rappin in different languages n all dat shiat
Yo lord have yo tried turntablin like da invisible skratch picklz? How many skratchers have yo worked wid at once? Imma hook up (hopefuly) my first skratch turntablist session dis week wid one or two mo turntablists wid dere dex + mixer.. Dis is da shiat ive been w8in fo.. peashk in da south eashk
Lord Kaseem 9:52 PM - 23 August, 2004
See, I'm a dj at heart, I also think I'm a good marketer. To me, one of the best examples of being creative as well as different was DeLaSoul and Tribe... They were on there own tip...Meaning the album was meaty...but they knew how to pick the singles that would get the exposure the album needed. Because there is alot of good rap music out here to me... it's just not in the stores now. They are on mixed cd's. EPMD was another good example of meaty albums, and a great lead off single to push the project.I know people may not want to hear it, but Jay Z is one of the best at giving a meaty album but with great lead off singles. Mind you he's talking about blinging, but you wouldn't even notice it if eeeeverybody else didn't do it. Just like Das Efx...They were hot and original, but when everybody else was copying the Diggity shit...It left Das Efx out to dry. Most of these rappers today are not making the money they claiming...they are just copying."Yall don't paint pictures,Yall just trace me"....Jay Z. The Lox...especially Sheek would be doing well with their style, if it wasn't for the fact that everyone in rap tried to take bits and pieces of their flow and run with it..like they made it up. I mean who are some of these rappers homeboys...I remember when a rap friend of mine was sort of sounding like Buckshot from Black Moon.. I straight up told him, and he stopped sounding like him immediatly. He knew in his mind who he sounded like, but I don't know who he was trying to fool. But these rappers surround themselves with Yes men. And actually the music business in really not conducive for creativity... it's more like an assembly line. That's why I like the different formats music is available now. If you like underground..it's there. If you like mixed cd's and freestyles then it's available... But with SSL... I can scratch it all.
InspecDa-J 10:40 PM - 23 August, 2004
word up blud
"Ma pockets have swelled up from banks ive held up" - Big L.

Big L's flow was copied by Jay Z everyone pretty much recycles, copies, imitates everyones shiat. Being uneek is what its bout and serato allows us to play our own beats and from what yo said earlier Lord bout 300 dolla fo pressin vinal well dats alotta hustle or legal moneys work to earn.. Serato again eliminates money issues.

Do yo spin yo own beats lord?

Everyones beats are used ova n ova - i got EPMD Unfinished business (sealed) from 1989 - da track on dat album called please listen to my demo was remade recently by brotha lynch hung.. Its all good
I brought Doug e Fresh n the new get fresh crew (1992) a week ago and deres nuff samples on dis album dat are on nuff peoples beats.

Native tongues was a major influence fo da hiphop.
I find wid sick lyrix comes a sick beat. Im mo into da horror core rap. triple 6 have been undaground since L8 1980's called da backyard posse or someting.. dats da shiat...

Lord Kaseem 1:29 AM - 24 August, 2004
Yeah, its according to how old you are. Please listen to my demo is by a funk group called FAze O "Riding High" Redman, and the Brat have used it as well. Like I said before I don't knock anyone's taste, but I don't take that sort of approach to music. I listen for skill no matter what the subject matter. I know it's entertainment. I like artist for who they are, not who I want them to be. I sort of look at music, from a dj point of view. I mean, I have my favorite in each Genre, but the fact of the matter is... I like some underground artist, I like some violent rap, I like some player rap... I like it all. I don't get into all that "Well he's talking about hustling, and getting money..so I don't like him". If he's good at the subject matter he's rapping about then, I like him. And I beg to differ about Jay Z stealing Big L's style. I'm from Harlem, and everybody's style in Harlem is based on the early Lord Finesse And Percy P rap cadence...punch lines and...two and three syllable rhyming words. I know Jay Z alienates alot of people because they don't come from a street background...I do, I feel him...but you have to admit that he paints a great picture. I don't sip on syrup but I do like 3 six mafia, but not everyone down with them. I can't expect Juicy J to rhymes as good as Jay Z, but I can appreciate the fact that they got thier own bounce... and when I play it in the clubs...Asses do move. But anyway if you are from across the Pond..One of the Best shows I ever did was in London... they treated us like the Beatles. We even did "Letter to the Better" and they lost their mind. I the U.S. I have to admit they we are a lil spoiled when it comes to Hip-Hop.
InspecDa-J 2:13 AM - 24 August, 2004
Whats age got to do wid what?
Yo'd most probably assume im ole or im assumin yo assume im ole but 18 manne
Basikilly Big L had it all - i dont need to mention C.o.C.

JayZ aint worth shit in my view. I prefer ja rule lol and i dont even like him. Jay Z's flow is like freestylish and Big L balanced everyting like a tru muda fuckin type rope walker.

Id put Jay Z in enimen's category of shit. literally aswel if he joins aftermath - Dr.Dre's got nuff h8 in da streets nowadays as it is.
Easy E forever.
I undastand at certain partys yo gotta play certain musick.. but if i run ma own show its gun be da undagroundest shiat out dere. 3 6 aint undaground no mo obviously.. But to most ears dey are.

You know 4 1 Fivin?

I love all types of Hip Hop from Old School to New School along with many of the different genres. I won't try to and name all the different cats I like because the list goes on and on and on... (But I will name some of them) Old De la Soul will live on forever! I believe Prince Paul is one the greatest Hip Hop producers ever (although his latest effort was disappointing) Along with his older stuff I really like his Psychoanalyst album and his work with the Automator (another one of my favorite producers) on Handsome Boy Modeling School. I dig all the classic east coast producers like Premo, Pete Rock, Large Professor, etc. Although I'm not really into the bling rap I do dig some Jay Z. He was skills as a lyricist that are undeniable. I think The Grey Album remix by Danger Mouse was some of the best Hip Hop to come out in recent time! I also love instrumental Hip Hop by DJ Shadow, RJD2, and others. On the new school tip along with Def Jux (I believe EL-P is an amazing producer) I'm definitely feeling some of the different dudes that came out of the Anticon collaboration (I'm just a white kid from the desert can you blame me?) My favorite up and coming MC is MF Doom. That fool is mad talented! Microphone, beats, or the wheels of steel: you name it, he does it all (in a metal face mask at that!) Shit, I just love music in general, all genres! My favorite rock band Modest Mouse from way back recently blew up! (Ok, I'll stop here or I'll go on forever) What I don't like I don't badmouth because I am an adult and respect others opinions unlike some people. (I also write in proper english like an adult so people can understand me) Peace!
InspecDa-J 1:37 PM - 24 August, 2004
Jay Z aint bling at all
If yo talk bout bling its all down south fo dat.
MF Doom is ole skoolish since 90's.
Yo ive got muda fuckin good grades in English.
tashafa 2:20 PM - 24 August, 2004
InspecDa-J --- english pls
depakote 9:12 PM - 24 August, 2004
If you made good grades in English then why don't you use it? Either that or get a translator because I can't barely understand a word you say!
depakote 9:50 PM - 24 August, 2004
MF Doom is new in that he is a recreation of his formal self as Zev Love from KMD.
tashafa 10:04 PM - 24 August, 2004
i did not understand a single sentence the dude wrote... i guess since lord kaseem is black he must undestand that ignorant jibberish cause "black people talk like that" so they must read and write like that too
tashafa 10:07 PM - 24 August, 2004
oh wait he does talk like that in all of his post. amazing
nik39 10:17 PM - 24 August, 2004
Whats that gotta do with black or not black? Kaseem is black and doesnt write like that at all. If he understands what that other dude is writing I dont think that has to do with his color of skin.

tashafa, I just hope you dont mean those things seriously that you just wrote.
tashafa 10:36 PM - 24 August, 2004
i obviously made a mistake and i thought he was just writng like that cause kaseem is black (but he writes like that all the time), some people tend to start to act, sound, or in this case, write kinda ignorant when they are talking to a person of color but that wasnt the case
Haiku 12:16 AM - 25 August, 2004
OK, I normally don't chime in on these forums unless I feel I may have something of substance to offer. Tashafa, I won't say check yourself and watch what you say or write because then we won't know what you're about - real, percieved, or otherwise. What I will say is that Nik39 has a valid point. Sure it was tricky trying to figure out what InspecDa-J is trying to get across, but to say 'i guess since lord kaseem is black he must undestand that ignorant jibberish cause "black people talk like that" so they must read and write like that too', that to me is what I would address as jibberish. The guy is just being very phonetic when he writes, color has NOTHING to do with it, him, or LK.
InspecDa-J 2:24 AM - 25 August, 2004
Yeh yo right depakote bout MF Doom immergin 99. His cru KMD have plenty of connections.

dont trip ova me typin lol
depakote 2:47 AM - 25 August, 2004
Saying the guy is trying to speak in a manner that he perceives is black slang is one thing but saying
Quote:
i guess since lord kaseem is black he must understand that ignorant jibberish cause "black people talk like that" so they must read and write like that too
just sounds plain racist and is totally stereotyping! Besides the point, Kaseem is hella cool and I don't know why you would want to dis him.

rhodes1 10:52 AM - 25 August, 2004

InspecDa-J 12:48 PM - 25 August, 2004
Yankee doodle?
tashafa 2:03 PM - 25 August, 2004
rhodes1...thank you..i corrected myself and i wasnt dissing kaseem. if any1 sounds racist and stereotyping its not me.
nik39 2:16 PM - 25 August, 2004
Guys, relax, it looks like it was just a misunderstanding. Tashafe thought Inspecda was dissing LK, and I thought tashafa was dissing both ;) It was a misunderstanding. Now stop this useless discussion, as we all have found out that it was a misunderstanding.

Lets get back to the original subject. Check out LK's video, ... I really like the nice crabs, I wont comment on the other aspects ;)

Peace.
BadCompany 2:16 PM - 25 August, 2004
First I want to say Yo Kas you got some mad class :) love the vids! now ...arguing over who is the best hip-hop artist and who isn't is futile... it all come down to ones opinion... its probably pretty difficult to convince someone that a certain artist is good/bad just by typing on a forum... I would say if you like it listen to it! and support it! If you don't like it then don't hate on it! Go make something better than it (or whatever)... people who 'hate' things by default are children... just because you or whoever doesn't like something doesn't mean that its horrible and you have the right to hate on it... All I'm trying to say is embrace what you love... or move on with your life... Their is already enough negative energy on this earth and no place for more haters.

Back to hip-hop we can all agree that we love hip-hop! or some form of it! And all the artist mentioned on this thread are admirable... some more that others (in my opinion of course) but dam Kas your video is mad inspirational! keep up the tight i$h :)

Lord Kaseem 5:10 PM - 25 August, 2004
Yeah, I tried to take the high road on him. I figured he was younger and from another country and doesn't know english that well. I come from a different school of thought. Black people do know how to communicate with each other with out using "The Queens English". But what the hell that has to do with Serato is Beyond me. I from the Streets, and I also work during the day at a HBC(Historically Black College). You have to be diverse. But it's just like I said everyone has an opion about rap...I just don't debate what is good and what's not. I play songs at home that I won't play in the club...Stuff I play in the Club I won't play at home, it's no Biggie. As far a the "Black and Ignorant" stuff... I won't even acknowlege it. Just wanted to be helpful to the people who are scared to get the SSL Because they never saw it demo'd. Sorry about even getting into Hip hop discussion.
depakote 6:26 PM - 25 August, 2004
I hope I didn't come of like I has trying to debate or argue about how certain Hip Hop is better than other Hip Hop! I was just enjoying having a discussion about what Hip Hop moves me. In retrospect I shouldn't have let some comments get to me like they did. There is no use in getting in to it with people that are looking for a confrontation. I'm sorry that things went astray but definitely enjoyed the topic. It may not have to totally due with SSL but this is the general discussion section. Peace!
depakote 7:19 PM - 25 August, 2004
I take back the whole "There is no use getting into it with people that are looking for a confrontation" line seeing that it may just cause another confrontation which wasn't my intent. Very stupid thing to say! I should of just kept my mouth shut! (This would definitely be a nice time to be able to edit my posts!) So let kill all the noise and all be friends! (Maybe the SSL moderators should kill this thread) I'm sorry to anyone I've offended. Peace!
Lord Kaseem 7:22 PM - 25 August, 2004
Well to the people that haven't seen the SSL in action, check out my video post,www.seratoscratchlive.com
