Hello,
I ran into an issue yesterday during my DJ set that has me questioning my software/hardware combination.
I was playing at a club that has a Rane 68 installed and was the only mixer I could use. I was running Scratch Live 2.0 with Video SL. I needed to update to the latest version of Scratch Live because the mixer was not being recognized when plugged in via USB.
I updated to Scratch Live 2.2 and this is when my issues began.
When I loaded a video or audio track, it was acting odd when loaded. I cued the song and it was cutting out randomly (and wasnt repeatable). It would sometimes do it in the middle of the song.. sometimes in the beginning of the song. I thought nothing of it until it did it multiple times mid set with a packed club and 1000 people in the room.
When the issue would arise, the waveform in the main waveform display would disappear and the waveform display would go gray, then it would cut back in. Sometimes it would cut out for a second, then come back in, then cut out again, and other times it would cut out for 10-15 seconds straight.
It did it 4 or 5 times before I got the other DJ to take over.
I believe that this is an issue with the updated Scratch Live software on my computer and not with the 68. Ive updated once before and had this happen. If I downgrade to Scratch Live 2.0, it'll be perfect. It seems that Scratch Live 2.2 causes the issues. I have never had an issue with my sofware and hardware combination with Scratch Live 2.0.
I tried playing video and audio from my external drive and from my internal and it didn't seem to make a difference for the issue happening. I dont believe it was my external drive as I hooked it up to the club's PC and it worked fine.
My computer details are as follows:
Model Name: MacBook Pro
Model Identifier: MacBookPro5,5
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 2.26 GHz
Number Of Processors: 1
Total Number Of Cores: 2
L2 Cache: 3 MB
Memory: 4 GB
Bus Speed: 1.07 GHz
Chipset Model: NVIDIA GeForce 9400M
Type: GPU
Bus: PCI
VRAM (Total): 256 MB
The external hard drive I was using was a Rugged Lacie using Firewire 800.
I'll be downgrading to Scratch Live 2.0 ASAP but I'd like to figure out why it was doing this. If my computer can't handle it like this, I'll soon be upgrading to an 15" I7 Macbook pro with 8gb of ram and 1gb video card. Last night will haunt me after having that happen.. It made me look like an idiot and totally killed my set.
Appreciate any help I can get. Hopefully someone from Rane can chime in on this.

Hello Scotty,
Yes.. there are bugs with 2.2 and it sounds like you've ran into one.
I would suggest using 2.1 or 2.1.1 with the Sixty Eight currently.
You can find all older versions here --> serato.com

Zach S,
I don't think this problem is related to the Rane68.
Back in September, I had this same issue when I updated from Scratch Live 2.0 to 2.1 using an SL3 pod. (see: serato.com ... I never responded because the problem went away with a downgrade to Serato 2.0).
I believe it has something to do with any newer software than 2.0 and my computer.
Version 2.0 runs flawlessly.. my issues seem to arise when I update to anything newer than it.
This would normally not be an issue but I took up a residency in a club that has a 68 as their club mixer and I need to be able to use it.
Thanks.

Yes.. I agree. I don't believe this is an issue with the Sixty Eight but rather a bug in the software.
Your not going to be able to use 2.0 with your Sixty Eight so I would suggest trying 2.1 or 2.1.1.

As per the other thread, I have had issues with the 2.1 software (with an SL3 pod) causing the same problem as I have experienced here with the 2.2.... i'm quite certain the 2.1.1 would probably be the same.
I could give it a shot but I dont really want to take that chance of it ever happening again specially mid set like it did.
It makes me nervous to upgrade past 2.0

Lost a potential new residency last Thursday because of this issue. It happened just before the first big drop on LMFAO's Party Rock Anthem. So you can imagine the kind of crowd and time of night I dropped that song and the response when that happened. I have two more potentials this month that I cannot CANNOT lose. Do you all have any interns Serato that you can get to burn 2000 videos onto DVDs for me?

Rafael here uses VSL with the Sixty Eight four times a week.
He suggests using 2.1.1.
He also suggests re-analyzing all your files using 2.1.1 and getting rid of any corrupt files found.
Also, only use VSL on Channels 1 and 2 on the Sixty Eight.
As long as your videos are encoded properly you shouldn't have any issues.

Also... please go into the 'energy saver' settings of your 'system properties', click on 'show details, uncheck 'put hard disc to sleep when possible' as well as move both sliders to 'never'.
Now click on the 'Settings for' option at the top, choose 'Battery', and do the same in that section.
Also go into the 'Desktop and Screen Saver' settings and make sure your screen saver is set to never come on.
Lastly, boost the Audio Cache in the Display tab of Setup to 60.
