Hi guys,

Last night while setting up for my night at the club I noticed something odd about the video output.

I'd drop a track into a deck (record already spinning), the video would show up on the screen, the progress bar would show up as moving but the background in the progress would be a light grey, no music would play... then all of a sudden it would kick in.

I thought nothing of it (maybe a bad track), and kept going.. it did it a few times before the night started.

Then right in the middle of prime time, in the middle of a full dancefloor, the track cut out for approx 5 seconds once , and another instance of 3 seconds (I have played this song before and it has not hung up). The progress bar went to a light grey, the video would freeze and the sound cut out. Then all of a sudden it came back in.

This was EXTREMELY unnerving to have this happen and made me super nervous for the rest of the night.

I had upgraded to Scratch Live 2.1 this past week and last week when I played with 2.0 it never did this. I have downgraded back to 2.0 and i'll try my whole setup again later this week.

Is there anything that I'm missing? I don't want to go back up 2.1 until I know what caused the hang up. I can't have this happen again so i'm going to be playing it safe for a while.

Thanks for the help.

Hi Scotty, and welcome to the forum :)

Are you using any external drives, and what hardware are you using?

Also, if you complete your system profile details, it will save you having to repeat yourself every time you have an issue ;)

So with the deck spinning you load the video ... this may cause a slight delay, over a stopped deck, mainly due to the fact that while it's loading it's also trying to track where it is in the file and display the relevant changing frames. Loading a track into a stopped deck should help this.

Was it the same track that gave you issues at the start of the night, that cut out on you later?

Videos are all on external drive. LaCie 500gb using firewire 800.

Computer:
Model Name: MacBook Pro
Model Identifier: MacBookPro5,5
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 2.26 GHz
Number Of Processors: 1
Total Number Of Cores: 2
L2 Cache: 3 MB
Memory: 4 GB
Bus Speed: 1.07 GHz

I know about the delay when dropping a track into a playing deck. That's no big deal. The prime time cut out on saturday was in the middle of a song and it was not one of the songs that cut out earlier in the night.

I downgraded Scratch Live back to 2.0 for the time being. I upgraded Video SL to 1.2 from 1.1 last night and i'm going to try it out on my system at home this week when I find time to set it all up again.

I had NEVER had this happen before when I was on Scratch Live 2.0.... I'm going to stick with 2.0 for a bit and see what happens. I was VERY nervous with my laptop on saturday after it hung up (understandably so...)

If any of the video sl guru's could chime in i'd REALLY appreciate ANY help. If there's anything I need to post let me know. I NEED to get this issue resolved.

Hi Scotty,

I'm not a guru, but i've been using VSL since it's inception, so i know a little :)

VSL 1.1 is over 1 year old now, so i would really recommend 1.2 for use with SSL 2.1.

I do also have issues with the final release version of 1.2, but i also get these issues with 2.0. I was hoping there would be a new version sometime soon, as 1.2 was released in April i think, so hopefully ... any time soon.

mpeg to idvd

Can't import mpeg to idvd? Let me tell you why and how. As a matter of fact, only a MP4 file with H.264 or MPEG-4 codec could be imported to iDVD. Adding a mpeg to idvd, we need a third-part software to convert mpeg to idvd for mac OS X. Hi Scotty,

Could you please let me know your computer specifications? Also have you made sure that you have analyzed all your files and removed any corrupt tracks?

I am also having the same problem.

The song will be playing (relative or interval) and randomly at some point it will cut out, the track waves will disappear leaving only a grey background, and the song will resume eventually (around 3-8 seconds).

I'm using a Macbook Pro 13inch 2gb ram 160 gb hd, SL 1, SSL 1.9.0.
I've been using this setup for a year now and have never had this problem until now...

HELP!

Also something to note, I just noticed that when I'm spinning on relative and it cuts out, if I switch to interval it'll resume the song. Eh?

Hi gmdgt,

Have you recently started working in a new venue, or added any new equipment to the dj setup?

I had a venue that recently change their smoke machine, and occasionally when you hit the button, the ttm57sl loses all comms with serato! The electrical interference was so bad from the smoke machine that it upset the ttm57. The outcome was exactly the same as the symptoms that you describe.

Another venue has a desk fan, that does the same thing! I bought a belkin surge/filter socket, which i plug the ttm57 into, and it seems to have solved the problem for me.

Hope this helps.

D:)

Nope, nothing different to my setup. Maybe I'll mess with getting a new surge protector? Any other suggestions? Thanks PhoenixUK for the help.

Hey Scotty,

How is everything? Sorry this thread must have got lost in my tasks :(
Scotty Miami 4:00 AM - 11 May, 2011
Samuel,

I haven't tried again with the 13" MBP.

I purchased a 15" MBP with 1GB video card and 8gb ram and tried it again (with Scratch Live 2.1.1) . It worked alright for the most part except when the power adapter was unplugged by accident then plugged back in... the whole computer locked up and had to be restarted (the screen went grey and OSX told me I had to hold the power button down to reset the computer.... NEVER had that happen before). I was going to try and upgrade Video SL as well and see how it works. (not sure what version i'm running).

The 13" MBP works perfect with Scratch Live 2.0.... 2.1, 2.1.1 and 2.2 don't seem to work at all with it... and as for why, I REALLY don't know. My 13" MBP will stay on Scratch Live 2.0 for now... and I'll probably downgrade my 15" MBP to Scratch Live 2.0 as I doubt I'll be using the Rane 68 for a while anyways.

If there's anything I can do to help you guys track this bug down let me know.

Are you able to try 2.2.2? There have been some bugfixes in this version that could help your issue.

You can find this version here:

serato.com

Also, could you try disabling v-sync and frame blending in the Video-SL setup screen? Have you got Perian installed? If not can you install this. You can find it here:

perian.org

Cheers,

Sam.
