lol :) I'd expect it the other way round. "What? You play with your laptop? Then you dont need to buy records and you download all your music for free... Why should I give you the some money as before?!".
Stupid.
Stupid.

I didnt meant you with "stupid". This is what I call club users who step up to me with that kind of argumentation to lower the rates. I still have to buy records/music plus the time I put into all this. So there is absolutely no reason why they should pay me less, just because I spin with mp3s. I got mostly the same expenses (plus SSL + maintain my laptop).

yeh it's the people that don't buy records that mess it up for the proper DJs that support their respective scenes.

Real DJ's get their music free anyways.
If you are a professional DJ spninning in actual clubs, record companies will give you free music, because you are promoting their product.

Absolutely, you should get paid for your ability to select good tunes, mix them well and read the crowd. The format is irrelevant (as long as the quality is good of course).

so i'm not a real DJ because I actually buy records and don't get them for free. yeh right.
in some bigger (read more mainstream scenes), this is the case. but in smaller scenes, you have to support the artists. only the big elite DJs get the latest tracks unless you're well hooked-up.

Where do you get this bullsh*t? Sure, everyone gets a couple of promos now and then, or even weekly. But I personally don't know ANY DJ that doesn't go to record stores on a regular basis. Every DJ I know pays for their records, the free stuff is a nice extra. Oh, and they all play in "actual clubs", not make-believe ones.
