Stanton ST150??

Well since the Techs have gone way up in price and it's hard to even find a pair for sale anymore i was wondering how the Stanton ST150's compare? I have seen forums that say they have just as much torque and are the closest comparison to the Techs. Just wondering if anyone here has them and what you think about them?

Those are my road decks and I never looked back. They are based off the same OEM style design.
I had a post up about all the different models that use this design but ST-150's are the most rugged.
You might want to start working out a little though because they are heavier than 12's.
The only thing that I didn't like and it's because I have two sets of decks is the pitch scale. It's different on the ST-150's than the American Audio HTD4.5's which I use for my studio setup.
- 8%/25%/50% on the ST-150's
- 10%/20%/50% on the HTD4.5's
The default pitch scale is 8% like 1200's on the Stanton's but the American Audio's default pitch scale is 10%. Also, the Stanton's doesn't have the scale marked on the turntable scale but you get used to that pretty quick.
The reason I like 10% over 8% is because when mixing, due to the way dvs works the percentage is directly proportional.
What I mean is this....
Deck 1 - Track bpm is 124, now the track that I'm bringing in on Deck B is 122 bpm.
With a 10% pitch scale I already know I can move my pitch fader to +2% on Deck B and that will immediately make this track 124bpm.

STR8 150s / ST 150s are probably the best decks you will get. I upgraded to these from 1210s about 6-7 years ago and they are phenominal. Far better than 1210's. The platter control in much better so making fine adjustmest is easy. The extra pitch and stop/start control is awesome too. I also use the reverse quite alot to cut reverse beats in now and again. If I was you id definetely go for a new set of ST150s

Whoa, I've NEVER seen that one. Very interesting.
Don't forget their own line of turntables as well, I had a pair of them. They would have survived if they had isolated them properly.

They were nice decks actually, first ones with onboard Keylock if I remember correctly.

Thanks for that link of the DP-500M, if I would known about that deck I would have used it for my ripping station instead of the Numark I have.
Back to the topic though, yes get the ST-150's... you'll be happy. Just start lifting some weights in preparation. :)

Dj Quartz, I read through your post about the Super-OEM turntables, but have a question, I noticed they all favored the 1200s, but Technics weren't listed anywhere on that. So basically my question is, are Technics a part of that Super-OEM group?

I own stanton 150s and techs. Let me say this if you can rock 1200 then you can murder the stantons. The extra torque feels good if you anal about everything being dead on. Less pitch riding a nudging with the stanton cause wow and flutter are more stable. I still use my techs as my home set up and my stantons are the road decks. yes the are heavy so get ya weight up

- I bought 3x ST-150 for the cost of a single 1210M5G (the only other deck I would have considered).
- Really well isolated. I have my 8" studio monitors on the same desk barely an inch away from the decks, the cones firing straight into the tonearms. Not a skip or bump or bit of feedback to be recognised (though I've never done the same with Technics so couldn't offer a comparison).
- I was a little concerned with the wow & flutter numbers quoted, but so far I've done a couple of 3-minute long blends (pre-matched them; done for testing this specifically) and not a single beat has gone out.
- 25% has actually been quite handy trying to swap between genres.
- I have all mine in battle style to be able to fit them on my desk: no issues with accidently hitting all the extra controls. And love the detachable RCAs and right-angled cables supplied, which help to keep things neat.
- Being able to modify the brake has proved for some interesting braking effects, but never really adjusted the starting torque off MAX.
- After a few weeks, I really can't fault them. I just wish I knew how to take the tops off with dismantle them: wanna get them powder-coated black to match my mixer.

Dicers jus mount them on the upper right portion of the TT between the tone arm and plater. It does look a bit weird but work very well. You can mount the dicers in any fashion u see fit.

If my Tecnics died and I could not find a replacement I would get the Stantons. When I started DJing I cold not afford Technics 1200s so I used just about every alternative turntable I could find. Some were good (Marantz, other Technics) and some were bad (Gemini). But regardless of what I used I was always able to perform.

Stanton fans always seem to have this chip on their shoulder where they need people to agree that they're "as good or better" than the Technics. Who cares.
Just use what you want to use. Stop trying to justify buying something other than Techs. There are people that like PDXs, TTX, Stantons.. whatever else is out. If you like them, use them. Don't people ever get tired of reading these kinds of threads?

The problem with that is, all the technics fans like to hate on anything that aren't techs. I've had it a few times that people have come up, looked at my turntables and asked me why I don't use 'real' turntables like technics.

I called the local vendor about the Denon deck and they have no idea. The Denon and Marantz deck would be sick for archiving.
I think the 150's will be around for a long time. And the OEM design is used in many brands so parts aren't going to dry up.
Every OEM deck with the same platter has the same part number on the inside. So the only part numbers that might differ is if the vendor uses their own internal number system.
Otherwise, the numbers are the same across the whole platform.

I should have clarified further...
Since there is a pitch scale printed on my American Audio's, it took some adjustment with the ST-150's because there is no pitch scale on the body.
And since the AA's default scale is 10% vs 8%, the slider positions are different.
That's what I meant actually.

I have had the st-100's for 6 years now and never had a problem, the only issue I have had with skipping and the s-arm was I didn't notice the anti-skate was on 9, once dialed back to 0 it holds the groove with no problem. Also, don't use the line out feature, its fine if your at home just listening to records but it thuds whenever you tap the deck, and if its in a case or coffin the vibrations can be heard, just use the phono selection and your all good

Doesn't anyone manually beatmatch anymore, or are y'all just referring to the screen and adjust the pitch/calculating where it should go based on the numbers on the screen?

Maybe this answers my question, but I'm a little confused about people wanting to see the pitch slider.
Doesn't anyone manually beatmatch anymore, or are y'all just referring to the screen and adjust the pitch/calculating where it should go based on the numbers on the screen?
I mean, the only time I find it necessary to manually beat match is when I'm playing in Thru mode and I have to mix by ear...... But if you have a screen in front of you telling you information..... why not use it?

But I find myself RARLEY looking at the pitch scale since I constantly watch my adjustments on the Serato Screen.

Hey man, sorry been dealing with technical issues and this one slipped by me.
What I'll probably do is put it on sendspace so everyone can grab it.
Cool?

Ha ha ha,
I honestly can't answer that question, you would have to talk to Stanton and see if any of the parts are swappable.
