If I had 25k of equipment insurance would make sense, with two CDJ's and a mixer it's just retarded. Up until last night I've been very strict about not keeping drinks near my stuff and not setting up in danger areas.

Insurance = $250/year
Dj'd for 10 years = $2500
$175 deductible

Total cost of new CDJ after insurance = $2675
vs.
Replace new circuit board = $65 including shipping

No..not fixed yet..I will have to send it in to an authorized Pioneer DJ repair place and they will have to crack it open for a minimum $150. All of the Electronics and buttons work fine for me..it's actually the platter that seems to be stuck and I have no idea how to fix that problem unfortunately :(

UPDATE FOR ALL FUTURE CDJ SPILLAGE VICTIMS:

I opened the CDJ when I got home from the club to let it dry out. After 2-3 days of leaving it open while looking for replacement parts, it now works perfectly fine! I guess I got lucky. So if the same situation happens to you, first let the thing dry out before sending it off. If this doesn't work, I found the following site where you can order replacement parts to fix it yourself.

Another thing to keep in mind is that sugar really eats away at the electronics. Even though the CDJ works fine now, I will still be replacing the circuit boards where I can visibly see drink spilled on it. You could also try to clean it with special cleaner, but I don't want to take the risk!

you can hose down the circuit board with contact cleaner no problem. Just make sure to let it dry before plugging it back in

I had someone spill a glass of champagne on my CDJ on New Years Eve. I turned it off since the display was crazy and the buttons (it's a CDJ400 so the effects buttons and the setup button) were giving me trouble. It also wouldn't allow me to eject the CD.

The next available day I had to screw around with it, it was still jacked up so I took it apart and worked all the buttons with rubbing alcohol and a qtip. I dabbed the qtip in the rubbing alcohol and then pushed the button down with it so the alcohol could work its way into the buttons. I have used it for a few gigs since then and it's been working fine. The amazing part is that I only had 1 extra screw at the end rebuild. Amazing.

I hate to break up all this whole the same thing happenned to me comraderie thing that's going on but, did it ever occur to anyone that letting drunken idiots hover their drinks above your thousands of dollars in sound equipment just might be a bad idea? Did it ever occur to anyone that even drunken idiots would understand WHY it's NOT okay for them to hover their drinks over thousands of dollars in sound equipment? Just a thought... just a thought...

The area was blocked off. It was the last song of the night and a guy insisted on talking to me like it was important. I let him up by the booth and before I could say anything he stumbled, hit a ledge, and dropped his drink on my table. It's easy to say "you shouldn't have let that guy up there" but that's something I really feel could happen to anyone. Plus I get most of my private events from referrals from people who see me at the club and take my biz cards. I took the risk and lost that time. I easily generate $3500 min a year that way. People like to book cool cats, not just "some dj". Just a thought...

Hello HandsomeRobDJ! I'm not sure how it is in your "neck of the woods" (that means your part of the country!) but in mine the DJ has to set up where ever he can! Sometimes that means in places next to the scary crowd! I know whenever I use my setup at home my cats like to jump on top of my equipment! They sure do like to play! LOL! Maybe I should close the door on them! I'm not sure?

Now we're having some fun! The crowd in here sure does love to hate when they can hate together. But when you all got together and admitted to doing the same goofy thing and I pointed out how goofy it was you got all sensitive and went all proper and considerate and whatnot. When some kid showed up asking for a few pointers cause he's just gettin in the game y'all told him to be sure to play the Copacabana and everybody teamed up on clownin him out. But your character is very different when you get clowned out. I started the dj game at zero and I've been in it ten years. I've played for every crowd from filthy drug addicts to doctors and lawyers in dirty dope house private parties to huge night clubs with thousands of people. NEVER NEVER NEVER did I have a problem convincing people- rich people, poor people, drunk people, sober people, men, women, boys, girls, children, babies, dogs, cats, etc. to keep their clumsy dumb A$$E$ away from my $#!T when they had drinks in their hand. You can make every excuse you want but its all ridiculous. My point from the get go was just have enough respect for your own equipment to make drunks and idiots respect it. It won't be that hard to convince them. And save yourself a few thousand bucks when some A$$#@LE does NOT pour his drink all over your cdj's.

Jus happened to me tonight with my pioneer dvjx1, happened about 2am & had to play till 3am. Some idiot threw a beer into the dj booth in a fight. It only went over the top display & continued to play for a few songs then suddenly stopped playin a track. Initially it wouldn't even eject the dvd but once i got it home it would. I've opened it up & can't actually see any spillage but i can smell it! Got it next to the heater with the top open, gonna leave it like that overnight then try it in the morning!

i would have cut the music and be like, ok were done... and run off with a bunch of towels cussing under my breath...

I have a clause in my contract whenever I do mobiles, if any equipment is damaged by the customers, they are responsible for repairs. Never had to use that clause, but makes the guests more careful about bringing drinks near the equipment.

I've personally never had it happen to me, but can't this sort of incident be viewed kinda like an auto accident? I mean people go as far as offering cash for dry cleaning when they spill something on another person, does all that not apply when it comes to expensive electronics??

I'd get security to get their drivers license or something, so i can get at them in the morning and collect.

Happened again 2nyt tho a different venue & it wasnt a fight this time but a pure accident, clubs shud hav perspex at the top of the booth so this duznt happen tho! This time it was vodka & lemonade & the disc wudnt eject when i got home. It came up with the dirty disc error code so i think its worse this time as it went all over the unit. Dried the little spillage i cud c inside & got it open next to the heater again so heres hopin! :(

There are various electronics cleaners out there. Radio Shack sells a pretty decent one. The trick is to actually get inside where the beer went and spray the heck out of it. Don't use anything caustic like Gumout or anything, it will destroy many plastic parts. (Had buddy do that once.)

Liquipel should offer mixer, cdj, turntable service, they would make bank off ofit. Aoki has his macbook liquipelled :)

ok so i'm up now & managed to eject the disc but now it reads every disc as dirty, gna leave it a while to dry out without the disc & c if that fixes it. :(

The laser lens is probably covered in beer. You may want to get a Q-Tip or something in there with some Windex and clean it off.
