What happens when your CDJ has a drinking problem???

DJWarrenKelly 11:37 PM - 21 December, 2010
But seriously...I did a double gig on Saturday and had both my CDJ set up and my 1200's set up goin. Had to do an Office party(CDJ's) at 6pm till 8:30pm and then tear down and go to the club(1200's) at 9pm till 2am. So this MC/DJ I know was helping me out and going with me to both places...anyways at the office party I had my Pioneer DJM800 w/2 CDJ1000MK3's running with my SL3 in a coffin with 2 EV SXA100's. This set up was ideal because it was simple to set up and tear down in a short time. At the club I had my Rane 68 w/2 Tech1200's plus speakers and amps already set up.

So we did the office party and everything was going very well..then my MC had a beer and was pointing at the laptop with the beer in his hand over my mixer..I was looking to my right CDJ and then moved my hand back to the laptop to switch tracks when I hit his drink and it flew in the air and spilt all over my Right CDJ and some on then effects part of the Mixer.

So of course I was horrifed and tried to sweep off the beer onto the floor and told the MC to run and get some towels..then I shut off the CDJ and the Mixer.

We ran the mixer cuz we had the about 45min left of the party but we decided to keep the CDJ off because it was acting funny. I just used the left deck and instant doubles(TY Serato :D ) and finished out the party. The mixer was tripin a bit on the effects button but the audio was fine. So then we packed it up and went to the club and got there with 1min to spare loaded up the laptop and began the night at the club..needless to say..NOT in the best of moods for the night..but it is what it is!

So this brings me to a question for you CDJ users out there....What do I do now???

I've turned it on the last couple of days and it lights up ok and seems to be not acting as weird..but still won't spin a CD. I've now resorted to opening it up and trying to turn the fan on it to dry it out. Anyone had this happen to them before???

The mixer seems to have corrected its self or dried up now so I have no worries there.

Sounds like your mc is the one with the drinking problem. Punch him in the face next time.

Nah..He is a dip shit for having it anywhere close to my shiz but I hit the thing...he feels super bad about it but he swears this has happened to a couple of clubs hes worked at(not by him) and they worked after they got a chance to dry out.

Here is a Pic of what I'm doing with it now..with a Fan on it too

If only it were that simple..I've got no insurance on the actual equipment...just coverage for if its stolen :/

Is it not "Spinning" cd's or is it not playing them? I'll explain why this is important.

If the cd drive is not spinning then the motor is shot and needs replaced.

If the cd spins but nothing happens then most likely the laser is covered with dry brew.

I've actually cleaned electronics that have had spills with deionized water...It won't conduct electricity and it will help get rid of "beer gunk" (it may be there even if you can't see it). Look online for discussions and other information.

Done this loads of times with my cdjs includingfull pints and sambuca that gets really sticky too.

You basically should have tipped the cdj upside down straight away so the booze pours away from the electronics.

Actually..the electronics seem to work fine...it just keeps spitting out the CD when i put it in..won't read it.

I'm unsure, never seen that. Have you tried using the eject cd with the metal pin thats under the cdj? It might reset the tray somehow.....?

Yea..the CD motor or something in the CD area must be toast..the jog wheel is really stickin and not as smooth as my other...looks like its time to send it to a service center
KYLE SMILE 12:40 AM - 23 December, 2010
The jog wheel sticking is just dry booze stuck under the platter - you can get this professionally cleaned or theres a step by step guide somewhere (search google) showing how to do it, although it's meant to be extremely fiddly.
