Is this laptop good enough?

DjCity 1:00 PM - 18 August, 2010

Would this laptop be better than the one in the previous post? This Dell is an i3 with 4GB of memory while the Asus has an intel processor and 6GB memory.

I really need the input from you people that know about this stuff.

Thanks in advance.

All of the above would exceed the minimum specs for running ITCH.

Keep in mind that Serato recommends running on MacBooks or Macbook Pros because Serato can test the configurations - because MB/MBP configurations don't vary.

It is unreasonable to expect Serato to test every combination of Windows PC and laptop out there. As such, you will have to try it for yourself.

Wish I could but I can't afford MBP. Just got off the phone with Numark and they said that the Asus (1st post) is extremely good for itch and NS7. Way exceeds min specs.

Intel core 2 Duo P8700 Processor
3MB L2 cashe
2.53GHz
6GB DDR2 memory

The guy said that I will be able to run itch with NS7 and NSFX flawlessly for years to come.

Just ordered the laptop. Will post how it works out after i've had some time with it.

Thanks for the input

^ Just remember, it's the DRIVERS in Windows that causes the instability and performance problems, not Windows itself. It's usually the video and network drivers that wreak the havoc. I'm sure that you'll be fine though. Just let us know if it all works out.

Good luck.

even thought I agree with KLH on configuration. Serato has already added many many systems to their list of computers already.

if your computer meets the specifications for Itch then it is a software configuration issue.

have you tried opening a help ticket? If you still want to waste ur money on a new computer can you ship me ur current computer for free? I can def use it =]

macs will give you head aches as well just look on the forum. no computer is fool proof.

It wont matter what computer you have if you dont know how to get the juice out of it. By the looks of it your computer knowledge is limited; I can tell because you provided with specifications about the computers that are irrelevant to the use of Itch.

Please open a help ticket. Sbangs is the man you need to try to get.

Please note that I am not in any way criticizing you or belittling you for not knowing how to configure your computer. I am pointing out the way to fix your issues. =]

wish you luck. some people u might want to talk to is also the guy s/n subdriven. =]

good luck.
DjCity 3:52 PM - 18 August, 2010
Hey czar

My current laptop almost meets specs for itch and NS7. The issue is with the cashe. I have L1 cashe when specs call for L2 cashe. This is NOT included in the min specs posting from serato. My current laptop meets all min specs except that one.

I'm still gonna get my current existing laptop running as good as it can and use it as a backup laptop and for home use but as long as everything goes well with the new laptop...IMMA BE HAPPY.

Fingers crossed.

I would create a partition with Win Xp Pro. I've seen better results with XP over Vista and WIn 7. I was just was not comfortable with Windows so I purchase a MAC. Win 7 and Vista has too many driver conflicts issues. Good luck.
czar 4:05 PM - 18 August, 2010
it appears ur computer already has L2

support.gateway.com

it has 1 mb of it while in 2010 the minimum u can get is 2 mb (mostly)

I also see that the computer has Mobile Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 4500

Those intel graphic chips are hated by many including me. they consume ur resources like u had nothing better to spend them on.

good luck to you.
czar 4:07 PM - 18 August, 2010
btw nothing that cant be fixed by configuring your system from control panel and other options. (again most of the times) some times something is really bad (hardware wise) but that is rare...
czar 4:21 PM - 18 August, 2010
it is recommended that you have a clean windows install configured properly. there are very good guides in this forum and around the net. =]

learning and reading is the name of the game. again KLH is right that MAC has only "one" configuration but mac will cause issues as well. some keywords worth looking up and learning about are bloatware, services, processes.

because u r staying in windows u should learn about it. just remember that windows and mac both work for many users and for many uses nothing works until they learn what they are doing wrong. =] ok thats all my ranting see u soon!

How much was it?
DjCity 8:01 PM - 18 August, 2010
In the neighborhood of $750
djfrancov 9:12 PM - 18 August, 2010
you are better of buying a used mackbook than buying a pc...you can get a used macbook for 500-600 buck. trust me ...is the way to go.
DjCity 9:36 PM - 18 August, 2010
In the future I will buy a MBP. I'm not gonna buy a used one. I won't know the history of it and they are waaaaay too expensive to fix if something is wrong with it or if something goes wrong with it.

I've seen many on ebay and other places that have had issues that require $400 and up to fix. If I buy one for $500 and have to fix it later for $400...That's $900.

Not worth the risk or the expense. There is an old saying....
Poor people can't afford to buy cheap things.

I love my asus. the company makes motherboards and I find they are fairly light on the tacky paintjobs and useless add-ons (both hardware and software.)
DjCity 2:52 AM - 24 August, 2010
How about this???

Model Name: MacBook Pro
Model Identifier: MacBookPro1,2
Processor Name: Intel Core Duo
Processor Speed: 2.16 GHz
Number Of Processors: 1
Total Number Of Cores: 2
L2 Cache: 2 MB
Memory: 2 GB
Bus Speed: 667 MHz
Hard Drive: 120GB

Good enough?
DjCity 10:27 AM - 24 August, 2010

djfrancov 10:42 AM - 24 August, 2010
