What's hot right now in Miami is Electro House... Ever DJ is pretty much pumping the same tracks. I personally am starting to not like this sub-genre of house. Since most EDM DJ's down here all buy off Beatport, DJ Downloads, etc... They are all playing the same stuff. But anyways...

thanks for the help everyone, i'm still trying to school myself. dj cisco, that stuff you just posted above me, is that older house stuff or is that newer stuff? just curious. i'm trying to hip myself both on classic vocal house stuff and newer electro/miami/euro house. (sorry i'm soooooo out of the loop with this stuff).

Ok, first of all, my house tastes are EXTREMELY limited (I'm mostly hip-hop and r&b), but during that time frame I was into some stuff that some might classify as house-ish.

I was a HUGE Chemical Brothers fan and although they're primarily known as "big-beat" dudes, they had their fair share of acid/deep/hard house (sorry, I can't keep up with all the subgenres :P). Check:

"Under the Influence"
"Hey Boy Hey Girl" (I used to love dropping this one)
"It Began In Africa" (although this one's a bit later--2002)
...can't remember some of their other stuff right now...

I was also (kind of) into the French scene at that time--Respect Is Burning and all that shit. Daft Punk had some great stuff on their first album:

"Da Funk"
"Around the World"
"Revolution 909" (my personal fave)

and there was also Cassius: "Feeling For You", Stardust: "Music Sounds Better With You", and Dimitri From Paris had a GREAT remix of Stetsasonic's "Talkin' All That Jazz" from his first Playboy Mansion CD.

Armand Van Helden has already been mentioned and he was pretty dope too. I liked "You Don't Know Me" and he had a pretty decent track out with Common called "Full Moon."

Jason Nevins' remix of "It's Like That" by Run DMC was also great. So was Funkstar Deluxe's remix of Bob Marley's "Sun Is Shining." The Jungle Brothers' remix of their own classic, "Girl I'll House You (98)" also kills.

The best of the best would have to be Kenny Dope and the Masters At Work in general. Anything by them will kill it in my opinion.

Ooops, my fault DITC. Chicago house classics remain house classics. by Chi-town standards (88-97) everything on the list is house, to include Uptempo by Run DMC. We didn't start to "dice" house up until the younger folks (Bad Boy Bill and crew) starting getting publicity. All good though.

i'm learning a lot in this forum. i always thought i knew a lot about music too. the house thing is a whole new entity for me, but it's something that i NEED NEED to school myself on, now that I can build a collection without having to drop 12 beans for a record i never heard before.

BTW anyone else thinking about doing the same should reconsider. That's essentially pirating music since you won't be owning a legal copy anymore.

So there's this house track...I don't know what it's called or who it's by (don't you just love that?) but it sounds really old timey. Sounds like the melody is played with a clarinet or something, but it sounds like something you'd hear out of the 30s or 40s. Was a pretty popular track in the early 90s I believe? as for learning about house.. the best way to learn is to live through it.. being from chicago its like knowing the streets of the city or like knowing how old you were when you heard a popular song.. only as an example and cuz its infamous.. you know how old you were when you heard can't touch this.. Here in the Chi.. if you play perculator or horny... everyone remembers being in high school or jacking up girls with knee highs on at some dance or house party back in the day... its all about the music and the memories.. check out the pump up the volume documentaries to get the real low down on the history of house.. pretty damn accurate!

and as for the whistle song.... wow... memories.. do you have that children of the sky track with the whistle song in the backdrop.. is pretty straight..

Love that rich bass from 90's house, a lot of new tracks sound thin to me, too similar, get off the computer and get crate diggin and sampling and tweaking, it took a lot of creativity and effort with all that analog equipment to make music then, and you can hear it in the music of 80's and 90's and early 2000's , but it still all goes back to the 70's for the foundation and inspiration, the 70's is the Giants shoulders we stand on

Like the rest of you I'm pulling my hair out trying to think of a song I heard back in the day.

This is the best recollection I have of it.

OK it starts off with a male voice speaking and describing what you need to make a dance track.
It goes something like this....
"We need to start off with a beat" (A beat starts)
"Then we add a hi-hat" (Now a hi-hat is added to the beat)
"Now we can add some base" (base is added)
And so on.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

It's a female vocal, lyrics are something like "what a night, I love...." she's says something In the beginning but I can't make it out. It's mixed with heavy bass. The dj told me it was house throb. It's a deep house number outta the 90's with the male vocal taken from what I think was originally an r&b tune. It's lumpy in bass and has a light weight percussive pattern to match. The lyrics I remember are..

It's stripped back and raw (I'm not a DJ btw). Been lookin for a dance track from the 90s. Think it may have been 96ish. Not only can i not remember the release i can only remember the start of the track and wat it says on repeat in the tune. It starts of with a helicopter in the distance then as it gets closer it gets louder(obviously) then a bloke says officer bella bella bella . Hello! Guys, I'm desperate. Help me find 2 songs.
The first song I heard in 1997. The style of music was techno or rave, I'm not entirely sure. I remember that the rhythm was fast and hard. And there was a rude male voice that shouted:- "Boss, boss, move your body! Boss, boss, move your body! ". The music was very energetic and incendiary. I can also add that the voice was a little hoarse. As far as I remember, there were only these words in the song. There were no other choruses in it. All the rest of the time, there was fast music. In the style of fast techno or rave. Now it's hard to say for sure.
The second song I heard in November 2003. The style of music was trance. In the music there was a sound like a violin, possibly remade on a synthesizer. And yet I'm not sure that this sound was exactly like a violin, maybe a little bit. There was a male melodic voice of medium tonality. Unfortunately I do not remember the lyrics exactly. I remember only the words in the chorus:- "Hasta la vista, baby hold on". Then after this chorus the same music was like a violin. Then there were many words of the song. Of which I remember:- "i don't know" , " just a dream". I do not remember anything else. But I'm pretty sure that the rhythm style of this song started early 2000's, not the 90's!
And most importantly, this song and music have nothing to do with the Terminator and Schwarzenegger !!!

Ok, here’s my stumper and trust me I’m saavey at tracking down music. Two separate songs. Both sample “Take me to the Mardi Gras”. The first one is an early 90’s release that has the bell break looped and is most likely sampled from “Peter Piper because it has the beat. There is a faint male voice that says 3 or four words I can’t make out followed by another male voice that says hoo-ha after the last bell in the loop. This basically repeats. It’s a little sped up from Peter Piper.
The next record has a heavy hip hop drum loop that goes for a minute or two then it stops and the the first organ break from Take me to the Mardi Gras comes in but it’s short a couple notes like do, da do, do. Then followed by the same but the third note is a little higher like do, da, do, do then repeated several times and there is slow high pitched scratch like shoop, shooey shoo, shooey, shooey shoo and then then organ break from towards the end of TMTTMG caps it off like do, da, do di, do, da, do and the hip hop beat drops again. Not sure when it was released but it goes hard. I want it! It’s a perfect last song of the night. Somebody hit me back with answer! I’m going nuts!

Not even close! Ha,ha, me and that record are old friends! I appreciate you giving it a shot though. I have a little more info on the first track. The 4 words I couldnt make out before are “got to believe in me” sampled from Fierce Ruling Diva. It’s the Peter Piper beat with two vocal samples over it. That’s all, but the shit bangs. It’s not some original mix either, I’ve heard multiple DJs drop it. It’s not Shazam friendly either. The do’s and da’s are in place of the organ break.

LOL, I was correcting the song title you listed as Time by Al Naafyish. It's actually a track by Hashim called Al-Naafiysh. Not sure of the other tracks you are looking for...

That was just a typo. I’m quite familiar with that record. I actually tracked down the second song I described. It’s called “Believe Me” by Johnny Vicious. It’s dope if you haven’t listened. Old school hip hop is my specialty, no track I.d questions there. I just recently started building up my house collection and there are some tracks from the early 90’s I can’t find. A couple of tracks that have been eluding me for a couple of decades, (ugh, I'm old). Any help is most appreciated so I can get these ear worms out of my head and onto my decks...

First is a song where a woman is yelling at a man, and then proceeds to call him a very nasty work in Spanish. It starts with an M but I won't spell it out here.

Second is a little harder to explain. I remember it starts out with a woman welcoming people on board some kind of flight and then counting down as if for a rocket launch. 5.... 4.... 3... 2... and she either says Ignition or Lift Off, can't remember which for certain. After that countdown the track goes nuts with some of the coolest beats I've ever heard and a very specific sound like a laser/horn (horrible description I know) that goes dooooooo doo doo dooooooo doo dooooooo over and over.

That second track is the one I've been wracking my brain about the most for years. I know Chris from Mechanized in SLC played it a lot in 1994, if that helps anyone narrow it down.

Liberty City - Some Lovin' was a huge house track in the early 90s. My preference is the dub version of it.

There was an ep, back in maybe the mid to late 90's or very barely 2000's, that had about 5 tracks on it. Shiver Me - ADNY Remix was I THINK the 4th track.

But what I've really been jonesing for, for the last x number of years, is the first track.

It was a similarly dreamy deephouse track, but all i know was that there were words repeating over and over "don't worry, don't worry, don't worry, don't worry." And it goes like that, until "don't worry 'bout the (moon, morning?! hell if I know).

Does this ring any sort of bells for anyone? The only track I've been able to find from that ep is the Shiver Me remix, and that was a very fluke one-off.

I have a question about a 99s house track that has been stuck in my head for a while. The lyrics sang by a female I believe with a high pitch go something like “Feeling like a stranger in the strangest land.” It has lots of synth keyboard sounds that I could easily hum. I'm trying to remember this song probably from the 90's, but I first heard it in late 90's (~1998). It's like a pop/dance or maybe techno song, kinda dark/'misterious' rhythm, and sang by a woman with a mildly deep voice. I think it starts with a continuous thud bass that goes a little bit faster along with the other sound effects and maintain it throughout the music.
I don't remember much of the lyrics because I was ~8 years old when I first heard it (I heard it later, but in early 2000's and I lost the music file) and I'm not a english native speaker. I think the song is not complex and I remember that the chorus goes like

I have been driving myself crazy trying to find a couple of old hard house tracks from the mid to late '90's. They were songs that I heard "in the mix" live on the radio back in the Los Angeles area (like KIIS FM in L.A. or 99.1 KGGI from San Bernardo County in California) and the CDs that these songs may have appeared on are likely out of print at this point.

Both tracks feature female vocals. The first track has a mid-temple beat (with a rhythm similar to da da (pause) da (pause) da). The song had a verse and a chorus and I remember parts of the lyrics, again sung by a female, which go like this in no particular order: "I'm not gonna take it anymore", "Found another lover that's better than you" (or something along those lines), "What goes around, comes around", "So if you didn't know, well now you do(?)". The version I heard also sampled male vocals from "Work It To The Bone" repeating the "Come On Let's Work" during the chorus of the song. I tried to find this song by lyrics but none of them are from this track. I did manage to find a very small sample of the vocals in a mix on YouTube from Global House by D.J. Lil Cesar (1996) that appears in the intro mix (at the 2:27 mark) youtu.be but it does not appear on the rest of the album, much to my disappointment.

The second song had a mid-tempo as well and main rhythm went something like "daaaa, da, da, daa, da) and a female voice singing "Show me nooooooooooooow/Do you want to take me?" and then another male vocal taken from another track that sounded like he said "Countdown!" and plays on with the music with an occasional "Countdown!" thrown in. I have also tried looking this song up by lyrics as well but to no avail.

I have listened to countless house mixes on YouTube to find these songs, even going so far as to dust off the old tape player and listen to my old tapes that I recorded off the radio in hopes that I had it recorded on tape but no suck luck! Any leads or ideas would be much appreciated!

1) Music Video with Guy Break Dancing -IT IS NOT DAYS GONE BY, Dirty Vegas, but that is what my mind keeps going to.

It was a popular track back in the day, I even remember seeing the video at Cosmic Bowling night when I was MUCH younger 20 years ago. It's killing me that I can't remember the song and I have been Googling forever.

From what I can remember, there is an guy break dancing and he might be wearing a suit or slacks/dress shirt? From what I can remember, the video is just him dancing. It's a house/techno/trance type track, but I can't remember the lyrics or if it even had lyrics.

I initially thought it was a Fatboy Slim Track, but after Googling all his music videos, don't think it it. Then I thought it was Underworld/Born Slippy and nope, not it.

2) Another techno/house track featuring a train horn/sounds. For you vinyl guys from the late 90's, i remember the DJ from the bar I worked at, it was on the B-Side of another popular track. Don't believe there were lyrics, but there I remember there was a really cool part where everything stops and then it goes REALLY slow and then SPEEDS up with the a riff that goes high pitch to low pitch like: Bum-di dum-di dum-bu da duh da, Bum-di dum-di dum; Bum-di dum-di dum-bu da duh da, Bum-di dum-di dum and repeats the beat faster and faster. Def a train themed type song and it's not any of the Horn or Train songs I Googled and was able to find on Youtube. What sucks is, it might just have been a Dj's mix of someone else's song, but I can't remember the name or if there were lyrics.

I believes it’s the late 90s possibly 2000s and It’s a female vocal song, very lounge like in genre and extremely sexual.
