Just Got a New MacBook Air (Serato v4) and I’m Struggling to Access External HD

I posted this in the Serato Reddit forum but didn’t get any help so I’m gonna try here…

So I just bought a new MacBook Air. Prior to this, I was using a 2016 MacBook Pro. I don't know what I've done differently. On my old MB, I went from my External to Serato Music to the Artists and from there I can select the song I want to play. Easy enough. But on my new MB, I go from Hard Drive and it drops down to Serato Music and then it drops down to Artists. That's not what I want, ha! I want them to keep going to the right side, like I used to. I just want to go HD > Artists > Albums > Song like I’ve done since the SL1 days…

Is there anything obvious I'm not doing? Hopefully it's just a settings change I have to make. I'm not sure. I'll be happy to answer any questions. I would post screenshots but I’m not sure if I’m allowed to. Thank you for your help in advance.

This is a screenshot of how Serato looked on my 2016 MBP. See how I could just go from my HD to the Artist to the Album to the song… That was awesome. I want to do that.

This is what my Serato 4.0 looks like. Please note how it doesn’t go left to right. I just keep getting drop down menus. I would prefer to select the artist than the album…

Hopefully I’m overlooking something obvious. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

unfortunately this is how the new 4.0 library view works,

its actually shortened the library view, instead of extending out to the right.

all your folders drop down to view instead of extending out to the right,

it works the same way but looks different,

this is the new look for SDJ Pro 4.0 and 4.1

This is why you really should transfer your music into crates and use that. The files tab you’re using was only ever meant to be for pulling music into Serato, not for performing with.

DJ STU-C,

I don’t disagree with you; and you’re right!

When I play a set out somewhere or record, I use crates 96% of the time. And I admit that number should be closer to 100%.

But when I’m in my basement just playing music or trying to put together a future set, I just want to be able to access music in the easiest way possible. And I definitely got used to doing it a certain way since 2007!? It’s been 18 years. I’m glad that they have made some fixes and added some new features, but I wish they didn’t take away things you used to be able to do.

With that said, if that’s the case, I guess I will have to rely more strongly on putting EVERYTHING in crates. Some people suggested that I just download old versions of Serato DJ but I don’t want to do that; I want to move forward with the technology, not stay put. Perhaps if I get used to solely using crates, it will improve my workflow. But in the meantime, I’m disappointed that they changed the interface.

Thank you all for your help.

No probs, im still on the older version as im not that bothered about all the changes to the library, you can run both versions concurrently if you want, you just have to rename the installed one then download whichever older one you want, that way it wont overwrite it.

I agree, I hardly use the files tab.
