M3U Files not working in 4.0

MikeReadings 4:56 PM - 18 November, 2025
I am now unable to drag and drop m3u playlist/crate files in Serato.
How can this be fixed

Hey Mike,

thanks for reporting this.

Not all features have been implemented in Serato DJ Pro 4.0.0 with the new library. This includes M3U playlist import support. We appreciate the feedback and have noted this.

(specifically on this feature)

Any work arounds for this?

I just use 3.5 to build the crates. I hope they fix that.

add your music files and create a crate with it.

I've always wondered how this works. How were you guys using the m3U playlists?
Rockalot 2:21 PM - 23 November, 2025
the lack of m3u import has greatly slowed me down. I use another tool to assemble my playlists that my clients use and it exports m3u's. Been doing this for years now I have to hand select every track that my clients picked?!?!

Could you describe how that worked? I've wanted to do that for years but could never figure it out

You're wondering how I'm having my clients build playlist that I can export to m3u's?

I'm wondering how you build an m3u file that you can drag into Serato to create a create. Every time I've done that the crate shows empty

Got it. It's not cheap but because it is a questionnaire and playlist tool that does it all and enabled me to take on more gigs since its doing so much work for me and that's the app named "Vibo".
Since m3u import isnt working in 4.0 Vibo is now working on exporting to Serato's .crate format.
Dj Wunder 10:12 PM - 25 November, 2025
I've heard of Vibo. So do you upload something to Vibo so that it knows how to create an m3U that will work with Serato?
Rockalot 11:01 PM - 25 November, 2025
You put it into "Prepare" mode match thier selections with your library and click the m3u button and it downloads
Dj Wunder 10:08 PM - 26 November, 2025
I see, so vibo has a record of your Serato database and matches requests to your library and exports an m3u that you can drag into Serato
Rockalot 10:12 PM - 26 November, 2025
Exactly. You install a small app on your gig laptop which when you initiate it, it scans your library and any drive you tell it to also look at and it will load that db file to its server for the web app to compare to.

So, just want to confirm my understanding - there's no way to import M3U files in v4.0 right now?

But support for M3U's is definitely coming, right??
Rockalot 2:47 PM - 29 November, 2025
No import for 4.0, everyone is reverting back to the previous version.
No plans to re-establish the m3u ability unless they hear from enough of us.

Yea, we're going to need some kind of playlist support to import playlists created in other media players. M3U is the most popular playlist format in the world, supported by all DJ software.

It would be a very odd strategy to be the only DJ software that chooses not to support it...it's hard enough for me to choose Serato over Traktor these days as it is.
