The Great folks at Serato,
Hi,
Recently, I was contemplating on getting either the Akai AMX/AFX combo or the Traktor Z2 mixer since they were both within the same price range. So I went with the Akai AMX/AFX combo because I've been using Serato since 2007 and was more comfortable with its layout. Also, it's portable design was an influencing factor.
Then, after trying it out, I've realized that the no visual reference for the endless rotary Gain knob is really bugging me out. It was affecting my mixes especially when doing a quick transition and the volume dips and I'm trying to push the gain back up and I don't feel where I'm at. It makes achieving a "perfect sound leveling" set almost impossible.
Doing a short set with it, is ok, in a sense where the adjustments are not obvious but when doing long hour sets, the leveling issues will definitely be obvious.
So I started a thread on the forum and realized that there were others that felt the same way as me.
Please see the thread:

So I'm wondering if in the next updates of Serato DJ, will you guys be including a visual Gain/Trim view based on the mixer's Gain knob movement as a reference in Serato DJ anytime soon? It'll really help in achieving a better leveling control especially in a quick mix set where sometimes the next track that you're playing takes a dip in volume and you need to set it back to the right spot and "know" where you're at. The AMX users will definitely benefit from this.

yes - quite agree - the endless rotatry gains definitely needs some visual reference indicating where its at, to avoid this audio imbalance ... AKAI how could they have missed this during their quality control and testing... hope they do add a knob indicator in serator, since its too late to physically amend the knob

I set my levels on the cue before going live
So I see my VU meters while faders are down

I agree with the "on screen" gain level needs to change when the gain is changed on the amx, even though most of my tracks are very close in terms of volume so I don't do much gain tweaking it would be good to have an actual visual of the gain settings !

I even thought about using a white marker to mark 50% open Gain...because its bugging me out......
Its a basic must have om mixers.....the other buttons have it but not this one....
Frustrating...

Sadly That would only work if you never change the bpm :( BUT you can swap around the caps from the cue mix & gain ones they pull off pretty easy if that helps & to be fair most dj's usually set those and leave them anyway, or another tip is to leave some headroom on the fader (only go to the lower of the 2 lines) this should be enough to balance most volume differences. hope this helps !

if you are on a heavy rotation part in your set (Rnb & HipHop) and you've got some records coming in after 20 or 30 seconds.....and you do some instant doubles on top of that....a quick visual check on the knob would prevent a gain mis/loss, because not all tracks have that same dynamic and gain level...
So I think that "Gain" button should have been a classic one.... Cmon the thing is a mixer .... so why is the gain different from the hi,low, mid eq buttons....??.... maybe in an upgraded version.
