How many drinks when you're spinning in da club?

cooper 4:44 AM - 29 April, 2006
Just wonder how many drinks u guys have (if any) when u play clubs. I dont like to have more than four or so...
mexicannnnnn 4:48 AM - 29 April, 2006
2 or 3 and usually a 1 litre of water... but then again I don't DJ at clubs. I do this when I do those hot and sweaty basement jams.
djxatl 4:48 AM - 29 April, 2006
hah i'll have like one or two, i usually forget about it when im spinning anyway, and at the end of the ngiht i'll find a really watered down drink.

im also afraid of drinks spilling so yeah

Thundercat 11:49 AM - 29 April, 2006
Zero. Begin the night with a DnD XL FV light & sweet and finish with club soda+lemon wedge (as needed).
earwolf 3:12 PM - 29 April, 2006
160
mister iLL 3:45 PM - 29 April, 2006
as many as i can handle. sometimes only 2-3, sometimes 4-5 beers and a couple of shots. depends.
MusicMeister 5:41 PM - 29 April, 2006
I tend to not drink more than 1 or 2 alcoholic drinks during the night. There have been exceptions where I've drank as many as a drink an hour or so but I make it a point to never even get a good buzz going.

Most of the time when DJ'ing I drink a lot of Pellegrino and lemon or colins mix (sour mix/7 up). If I'm wanting something alcoholic I tend to drink Guiness or Black & Tans. I have a couple of my own drinks that I made up that I'll drink occasionally but they're mostly shooters.
IanJ 5:49 PM - 29 April, 2006
I bring my own water and drink 1-3 pitchers of beer all depends on if the cats there supply me with my drinks which had happened many times in the past. when that happends I can finish the night but I can't drive home...

that's why I bring a buddy to drive sometimes
djxatl 5:52 PM - 29 April, 2006
i usually bring a bottle of water and a red bull or two as well
ochoppin 7:01 PM - 29 April, 2006
1 or 2 bottles of water or diet coke. I'll just start to nurse a beer near the end of my set.
DJ Evil One 7:39 PM - 29 April, 2006
you guys are lightweights! i'll get just to the point that i can barely stand sometimes...and sometimes i don't drink at all. depends on the night...i'd say at the most, 10 drinks, on average, 3 or 4.
punosion 7:46 PM - 29 April, 2006
barry's gonna' flip out... ;)

when your an ex coke head / crack smoker you cant start drinking cause right away, you want a bump, BAD.. And for about 5 years, I got to the DJ booth of some club 5 nights a week, and got 3 coronas and 3 shots of tequila RIGHT AWAY to start off the night... And ya know what? I never got a raise once lol. i thought I was killin shit but uh... really wasn't lol
ochoppin 11:36 PM - 29 April, 2006
The best way to keep me sober at a club is to put me behind the decks. I just don't to spin withj even a buzz.
CMS 12:10 AM - 30 April, 2006
Usually 3 or 4, but I don't like to get drunk while I'm working.
TheW 1:00 AM - 30 April, 2006
1 - 2 beer before I begin... then water.

I love to get really loaded while at work. I usually have about 7 martini's just to get warmed up, but when I really get going I drink straight out of a 1/2 gallon bottle of Grey Goose. On really special occasions like major corporate events, I like to hook up an iv of black tar heroin to my left arm and I occasionaly dump pharmacutical grade cocaine on my control reords and snort it up as the record spins. Clients love it!

If you're doing red bull and vodka I HIGHLY recommend getting a good vodka (instead of well). Smirnoff isn't bad, but if they have Rain give it a try (buy AMERICAN!). To really mix things up though try red bull and Blavod - it's a black vodka that's quite good overall. Mixing a premium vodka like Grey Goose or Belvedere is a waste of money.

Vodka is a common mixer because it takes on the flavor of whatever you're mixing it with. Vodka has no flavor of it's own. Well, good vodka has no flavor of it's own.

On a side note, I prefer to drink better liquor that's reasonably priced. Some of my recommended liquors based on a good price point:

1. Rain Vodka (American made in Kentucky, and scores nearly as high as Grey Goose in most tastings - usually with 5 points out of 100).

2. Maker's Mark Whiskey - If you're drinking Jack Daniel's, Jim Beam, or any other Tennessee Whiskey or Kentucky Bourbon I recommend this HIGHLY. It's VERY smooth, has a sweet finish, and mixes with almost anything easily.

3. Boodle's Gin - Forget Tanqueray and all the other gins out there. This gin I've found to be smoother, have an excellent flavor, and guess what? It's cheaper too!

4. Kelt Cognac - If you drink cognac at all forget everything you've ever learned and give this a try. Ok, so this one isn't cheap but it's well worth it. The lowest priced product is a VSOP but at 15 years qualifies as an XO by most standards. The XO from Kelt is a 25 year product, and the Petra is a 75 year (nearly doubling the age over Remy Martin's Louis XIII which is a 40 year product). BTW, once you try Kelt you'll never touch Hennessey or Couvosiere again. It's THAT good.

5. Rum - Well, this is where things get interesting. There just aren't that many really good rums out there. Captain Morgan's Private stock isn't bad, R.L. Seale's, El Presidente and a few others are quite good. If you can find it, Coyopa is the best rum you'll likely put to your lips. Have it poured up in a snifter with NO mixer - it's that smooth, and it's that good.

6. Tequila - Go with anything top shelf. But if you're on a budget, drink anything made with 100% agave, and preferably 100% de blue agave. Yes, that means if you're on a budget skip the tequila and go for the MEZCAL! Yes, the one with the worm in it. It's cheaper than Jose Ceurvo and much better. Corazon, Cabo Wabo, and Petron are much better tequila's. If you drink alot of tequila you really need to learn the aging system as Patron makes a number of tequilas and some are much more expensive than others (and aged for much longer periods of time as well).

What NOT to drink!
The following liqours are well marketed crap.

Bacardi - I made the mistake of asking for Bacardi when I was in Puerto Rico and was told that only wino's drink bacardi!

Jose Cuervo - I won't touch Jose Gold - even if it's given to me. 1800 is the minimum to even consider touching anything from Jose and even then I don't recommend it.

BTW, Did I mention that I used to manage a bar? Did I also mention that I'm REAL picky about my liquor? ;-)

I forgot to mention that I always keep a five gallon bucket in the booth so that I can throw up occasionaly and keep drinking more Vodka. I can't tell you how many gigs I've been able to procure because of this little trick.

There is a heavy price to pay the next morning after drinking mezcal. One new years in New York I got so drunk on mezcal that I fell down on the floor of our hotel as I was opening the door to our room. My wife lifted up my legs to close the door and placed a pillow under my head. I woke up the next morning to the housekeeping lady banging the door against my legs. GOOD TIMES!

btw, a good reposado tequila to try is Centenario. Drink it like a single malt scotch.

Lets just say a friend of mine dj'd a show and ended up waking up during his set to some else playing.... How he got in that situation was one too many irish car bombs with promoters.

In Oaxaca, Mexico all the tequila/mezcal bars I saw didn't have seats... They said you have to drink mezcal standing up because if you drink sitting down you'll have issues when you stand up...

Me, 2 drinks max when I'm playing...

If you think you have an idea how many people are on coke in the club- try waiting for the women's bathroom...
vidoona 9:55 AM - 1 May, 2006
1 or 2 an hour.....otherwise the mixing sounds bad. Problem is that I don't realise that until listening to the recording the next day haha.
