Only the DDJ-SZ is connected to my computer, everything located internally, no external drives, first time running the software so I haven't set up any library that would be damaged.
THURO 3:28 AM - 29 March, 2014
Updated to OSX 10.9.2 without any luck, I have attached the 2nd report to this as well.

I restarted my Mac in Windows mode so that I could at least use the device, Serato runs in Windows but when I connect the SZ it gives an error failed to connect to midi device. I talked to Pioneer support and they were absolutely no help, they say to try it on a different computer, and if it doesn't work then the controller must be faulty. Of course without even asking for which drivers appear in the device manager. This is getting pretty annoying.

Hey Thuro,

Please don't attach or copy in any more crash reports, they are only handy when they are in this format: serato.com

For now we will stick to the Mac partition on your machine. See if you can open up the software with your DDJ-SZ disconnected. If so let me know if you iTunes library is loading. If it is hold COMMAND and click on the analyse files button. This will force the program to analyse your entire library. Once this is done remove any files which are corrupt, they have a lightning bolt icon in the first column of the library panel.

Now try and connect your controller, does this help?

It crashes with the device connected or disconnected. Also, I figured it was the iTunes library that was causing the crash, so I deleted the music from iTunes, restarted, and tried again with the same result. It still doesn't open.

Hey Thuro,

Could you try out that analyze files step that I posted above? Perhaps download an earlier version like 1.5.2: serato.com or Scratch Live: serato.com if you cannot open 1.6.1

Sam
THURO 5:44 AM - 4 April, 2014
I just installed 1.5.2 and it opens up. Although there is nothing in the library I clicked analyze files with the command key held. Nothing happens visually in the program, again there are no files in the library.

After analyzing the files I have tried to install 1.6.0 and it failed to open. I installed 1.5.2 again and reanalyzed the library, then installed 1.6.1, it also failed to open. I have 1.5.2 currently installed again and I have reanalyzed the library. Let me know how to proceed.

I have read the other threads in the forum, creating a new user and installing doesn't work for me, even when starting with wifi off. Other software I have on the machine includes Adobe Master Collection, Ableton live 8, Reason 4, and Traktor Pro (in which I've gotten the SZ to work great btw, but I didn't buy it to use it in Traktor,) plus all your regular Mac goodies like iLife, iWork, etc. I would really like to resolve this issue, almost makes me wish I hadn't preordered and just waited for you guys to iron out all the bugs because I was very fond of Serato when I left Final Scratch to use Scratch Live way back when, but now I feel exactly the opposite way.

Sam GG 10:25 PM - 9 April, 2014
Hey THURO,

Most users have no issues getting their SZ to work. As far as I know there is not a bug but there could be a fault with your machine,

Can you try opening up a finder window then going to: Applications > Utilities > Audio MIDI Setup > Window > Show MIDI Window. Scroll across till you see your hardware listed. When you have that icon highlighted turn off and unplug your controller. Then remove or delete that device. Connect them to your computer again and try to run the software once more.

Also can you close all applications, at your desktop hold down "option" then click "Go" > Library > Preferences. Find all the .plist files in this folder that have "Serato: in their name, move them all to the desktop. Now restart your machine.

Let me know if that helps,

Sam

THURO 4:07 AM - 10 April, 2014
I tried running the software days prior to having received the controller, it crashed but I thought it was because I didn't have the controller connected. I tried the first step above right now and it again crashed. As far as the .plist files go, none of the .plist files in my library say serato. Which I suppose you will find interesting.
THURO 4:25 AM - 10 April, 2014
Nevermind, I re-read your post. Ok, I moved the files to the desktop, turned off the wifi, restarted, ran serato dj, and it crashed again.
THURO 11:10 PM - 14 April, 2014
I just upgraded to 8 gigs of RAM (Crucial Mac Memory,) still crashes at launch with wifi off.
THURO 6:54 PM - 22 April, 2014
At the very least, if you (Serato) are not offering a solution I would like some sort of acknowledgement on the forum. I've had a crippled piece of hardware because of your software for 25 days now. I need to hear back from any one of you about this issue. This is completely unacceptable.
THURO 4:15 AM - 23 April, 2014
1.6.2 also crashes the same as 1.6.1 for me. I have nothing connected to the machine. Not a single usb cable or wifi and it crashes on launch.
Serato, Support
Sam GG 4:51 AM - 28 April, 2014
Hey Thuro,

1.6.2 was a minor mapping release with little code change so no major bugs were fixed or features changed / added. Could you please try going ahead with any suggested apple updates? The crash may be to do with you not having a complete QT library (language used for developing) on your machine.

I'm gonna get a few more of the people in my team to have a look at this so we can try and find a solution or at least identify the cause of the problem.

I have attached a crash report Sam, hopefully this gets resolved soon.
THURO 4:54 AM - 24 May, 2014
This had never happened with any program other than Serato DJ , but just 3 days ago I installed a new 32bit program on my machine and it also crashed when launching. I was able to use the program as they offered a 64 bit version of that application which works flawlessly. I don't know if that sheds any light to the situation, but I found it interesting.

Hey Thuro,

Its interesting that other programs are crashing. It may be a corrupt system file.

Try running through these steps here: pcsupport.about.com - let me know how you go,

1.6.3 crashes on me as well. I did a disk repair and everything was marked as good. I don't know what else to do.

Hey THURO,

Did you follow the above steps that Sam had mentioned? Or did you just do a disk repair? They are two separate things.

Also, have you had any luck with the latest public beta version? It would be interesting to know if you still have this issue using that: serato.com

Sam.
THURO 11:02 PM - 25 August, 2014
I did not follow those steps as they are outlined for a PC. I did a disk repair then reinstalled the OS on my machine via the recovery partition. I'll try the new public beta. Thank you.
THURO 11:15 PM - 25 August, 2014
1.7 opens up instantly.

Samuel S 11:23 PM - 25 August, 2014
So no problems at all with 1.7?

Looks like the issue must be fixed then. 1.7 should be in full release very soon!

Sam.
THURO 11:24 PM - 25 August, 2014
nope, 1.7 runs great. Thanks I'll be waiting for the full release anxiously. I can finally cash in my Serato Video code I got when I bought this thing and try it out hahaha

Ok, I played with 1.7 beta for a little bit and it crashed after about 6 songs. I got it to restart after I deleted the serato folder, restarted my machine, and ran serato dj again. then it happened again. A couple of tracks then nothing. I hadn't played with it since then. I downloaded 1.7 today, installed OS X 9.4, deleted the Serato folder, deleted the itunes playlist file, restarted the computer, and ran it with no luck. It crashes on startup just like 1.6 did.
THURO 1:41 AM - 2 September, 2014
I just reinstalled 1.7.0.1525 beta and that one runs. How long will it run? I don't know. I'll find out in a couple of hours when I have time to play around with it and let you know what transpires.

Have you tried the official release that has been put up today? serato.com

Hey THURO

I'm almost 100% certain that whatever is happening is at a system level, but I haven't been able to determine exactly what it is from your crash report. I can see that Serato DJ is crashing right at the very start of its startup process and could possibly be to do with your QT libraries (this is the language that is used for displaying the splash screen showing what's new in Serato DJ.

Could I ask you to try starting Serato DJ 1.7 with all internet capability dis-connected? This should help determine whether the QT window is the cause.

I am also going to raise this with our development team to see if they can provide any insight. In the meantime, can I suggest you contact a local computer tech to ask their advice on what might be happening. This is in no way a common issue with Serato DJ on Mac (yours is the first case I've seen), hence my feeling that there is something occurring at a system/kernal level.

Cheers
Aaron
THURO 4:19 AM - 4 September, 2014
I turned off WiFi on my machine, closed all other programs, installed 1.7.0, restarted my computer, started serato DJ, and it crashed at startup.
THURO 4:26 AM - 4 September, 2014
btw with the beta versions I do get the splash screen and hit enter and it works for like 10 minutes, then it crashes. But all the final versions don't work for me at all.
Serato, Support
Aaron E 4:27 AM - 4 September, 2014
Okay, thanks for that man. Not the splash screen causing it then. I'll let you know what the development team find.

Can you please try installing and running Scratch Live in the offline player? This could help determine what is happening? Download here: serato.com

Thanks, that's interesting info.

The beta screen doesn't function in the same way as the splash screen though. Still - very interesting you can run the beta at least for a while. This to me suggests you may have a virtual memory issue, but I'll check in with development before I come to that conclusion.
