This is how we do it where I'm from..... Video blog

pdidy 11:26 PM - 19 February, 2014
This is basically a video blog of your gigs, events or anything dj related that represents you or where your from. The point is to display our differences so others can learn from them.
Granted there are ALOT of regional differences that others simply will NOT understand but that's the point of the thread ;)

To the "Usual suspects", please keep the Derails and trolling to a bare minimum so not to destroy the thread. Jokes are expected but try to avoid all personal attacks.....

I will go first,

Im from NYC and my gigs vary from weddings to Biker/Car/Truck Clubs to Classy Grown & Sexy events.....

Oh man its so necessary!! I never leave home without it! They sell em at guitar center, but try and amazon and ebay. Make sure its the LED version. The red is dope for low light and the white will save you in a dark room or booth especially with turntables. Great for your video blogs too. More importantly for your setup you'll be able to see the pitch, mixer, records, etc.

Snapshots from this weekends 60s gigs,
the GF trying out DJing with a laptop for the first time.
(about 6-7 years since she did any spinning, back then on Denon CD players.)

Just getting to know the Black Magic Pocket Cinema Camera. Image quality has a lot of potential, I messed it up in color correction... Sound is awful, would need external microphone for decent results. Shot with an Olympus prime 17mm (equals about 35mm SLR) Pretty good in low light situations.

Lol crazy how I felt like checking Serato today and you posted this, been a min. Anyways, yeah man it's hard, we've done a lot of gigs, but getting video is a little harder than I thought. My company has been short handed so by the time I start deejaying getting video is the last thing on my mind, but I do have some cool pics?

Great thread. Very cool to see all the videos you guys are posting. Let's keep it going.

I've got some gigs coming up and will try to capture some crappy camera phone video to contribute. I just did a set for an outdoor cardio pilates class (yes, you read that right) and thought about taking some vids/pics, since there was a good amount of people and it's a fun event in general, but I didn't want to be a creeper. How much lead time do you need?

I'm mad that y'all can rock out like that in BK.
pdidy 2:41 AM - 23 July, 2014
Correction: $25 to parks department and $45 for sound permit.
www.nycgovparks.org
"All special events permits require a $25.00 nonrefundable administrative processing fee, and permits require at least 30 days for processing.

You will also need a Sound Permit from the New York Police Department (NYPD) if you plan to have amplified sound at your event and/or a permit from our Revenue division if you plan to vend/sell anything in the park.

To get a Sound Permit from NYPD, you must first have your Parks permit, including permission from Parks to use amplified sound. When you have received your Parks permit, take it to your local precinct to receive a Sound Permit. NYPD Sound Permits cost $45.00, and you must apply at least five days in advance of your event."

Hey, hard to tell from the pic, but is that just a regular stainless DeLorean? or one of the 3 gold plated ones?
MarkOfOdessy 3:10 AM - 26 July, 2014
It was the original Back to The Future Car. We did an event called the Voices Of Inspiration, and Michael J. Fox was the Guess Speaker. I wouldn't know enough about the cars to tell you if it was 1 of 3 Gold or not, sry.

Yes but only down to about 60hz because there not truly designed for bass. The zxa5 will easily beat it in bass 60hz an below. But I have used them full range and they sound great.

This is Brooklyn so stuff like "before i let go" or "love is the message" is a standard at bbq's. These are just short clips and not a true representation of all the other genre's played.

Interesting. I'm not a hype up the the crowd with the mic type of guy but I've alwasy wondered since I've never seen a DJ do it in person with a crowd. Does it actually work? Like does the crowd actually get "hype" when the DJ talks alot?

And thanks for the clarification on the CDJ thing.

Crowd hyping in this style of djing is a skill you can develop but everybody is NOT good at it so it can also be a bad thing when done improperly. This dj in particular is known for having great mic skills but depending on where you're from it can be debatable.....lol

I never replaced a pot on the mixer, but to be fair, i only use the set for practicing my scratches and juggles, so i rarely touch my EQ's and gains. I know they are quite easy to replace with some basic soldering knowledge, and cost a few dollars a piece.

Sadly pdidy, I only have one of the cheaper 3000 short throws myself. This one -> www.itechnews.net

As I do the actual graphics and not equipment rental myself, the event makers normally hire in the projectors/LED. The being said though, my office colleague is doing a lot of work with LEDs both screens and bio research (medical marijuana in Canada), so really hoping for owning a nicer setup down the road. I like the BenQ brand. I bought the BenQ SX914 (6K lumens) but I don't use it often. I should rent it out but most places I DJ nowadays just have a ton of widescreen flat TV's - and most mobile DJ's in my area are too cheap to rent anything. :P

WarpNote , do you have other video from this event from better angles as is hard to understand whats going on in relation to the crowd and how its setup.
WarpNote 4:09 AM - 15 September, 2015
I'll have a look but a doubt it. The projector is setup at 2nd floor, above the crowd, aiming pretty wide and covering quite a large area. So its not used as intended (ie short throw). Its also passing through some plexi, as seen @ 00:26.

Right, here's another view, same setup, different night.
You can see a glance at the crowd @ 00:06

Here's another example of running lower lumens projectors, this one was indoors. We used "shark tooth" 70% opaque projection cloth mounted to wooden frames. 2 projectors, 1 from each side. about 2500 ansi each, if memory serves me right.

That's no doubt BADAZZZ, but can we see the unedited, behind the scenes, speaker and dj setups raw & uncut. We are dj's and gear-whores so we dont need the vids to be polished. Stop holding out, I no you got some with the NEW JTR system.

But that beach party is enough to make a HATER physical sick....props !

I'll have to dig some other pics up, don't think I have too much video.
Sunset Cruise I - 2 ZXa5 & 1 Yorkville LS800p. They have to lift the sub over the front of the two story boat as it won't fit through the doorways.
Sunset Cruise - 2 JTR Noesis 3TX & the Yorkville. Headliner was Blunts & Blondes, who gave the JTRs a workout with the Trap and hard bass style he plays. They are insanely loud, you do not want to be standing in front of them when they are turned up, serious hearing damage could occur. Super clear, I had them crossed at 90hz. Really needed about 6-7 more subs but the sound was decently balanced for the smallish dance area in front of the DJ booth. JTRs powered by a Crown XTI6002 and ran through a DBX 32 ch. EQ. Both gigs we used my DDJ-SZ.

Island Parties I only provide my SZ and LS800p. Standard setup is usually 2 EV ZLX, 2 QSC HD32, usually another pair of powered speakers and the 2 Yorkville LS800/801 subs. We bing out a 6000 watt generator, hire a licensed captain to transport peeps with no boat or jetski, run 5-6 DJs from 10-7pm. Usually takes another 2 hours to fully police the island before the last of our group leaves. I get home from gig Friday night at 4:30, back up at 7:30, island party all day, dip out at 7:30-8, play Saturday gig from 9:30-3am - a long weekend but a lot of fun. Nothing beats playing on an island!

Still haven't run the JTR subs and tops together yet for a gig. When I do, I'll make sure to get some video and pics.
