Hello.
Since I've upgraded to Serato DJ 1.5 I am experiencing a problem.

When connecting the controller and opening DJ 1.5 it says:
"Error: Failed to connect Midi Device"

Weird thing is that on the right panel the app is saying "Device Connected"

How can I resolve this?

Thank you.

Hey GuyZapPa,

When you connect your VCI-380, before you open up Serato DJ right click on the sound options in the bottom right hand corner of your desktop. Select playback devices. Make sure that your 380 is enabled but NOT default. You need your computers internal soundcard to be set to default.

Also try connecting to a different USB port or try using a different USB cable.

Let me know how you go, If you still have issues can you get back to me with your computers full specs?

Cheers, Sam
GuyZapPa 8:12 AM - 3 October, 2013
So I've checked that the default sound output device is set on the internal sound card, and it was.

Connected the VCI-380 to another USB port

Still having the same problem.

I can also say that I was using my VCI-380 as a sound card for Ableton Live and played around with the VCI-380 Control Panel
The settings now are at "Streaming Mode - Minimum Latency" and "Asio Buffer Size - 2048 Samples"

I also have a custom beta firmware to help me with the VU meter problem that this controller has which I got from Vestax and it worked flawlessly with serato dj 1.3

Full PC specs:
Core i7 920 (3.5GhZ)
6GB 1333MhZ Ram
HD4870 GPU
4-5TB Hardrives (divided to 5 Hard Drives)

Please let me know
GuyZapPa 8:22 AM - 3 October, 2013
I made sure it's not a problem with the firmware as I've installed the original Firmware and still having the same problem as before.
GuyZapPa 8:48 AM - 3 October, 2013
Well, another update:
Just downgraded to Serato DJ 1.3 and still no luck.
In 1.3 it's not recognizing the device at all.

Please Help.

Hey,

Can you please uninstall the VCI-380 drivers, then reboot your machine.

Reinstall the drivers from here: help.vestax.co.jp Reboot your machine.

Now run Serato DJ 1.5, let me know how you go,

Sam

Dear Sam.
did everything as you said, step by step.

Still, No luck.

Having the same error message as soon as I open DJ 1.5 (and can see it after it disappears if i Shut down and Power On again the VCI-380)

Might I just say that I also have a MacBook pro 13" which I use for my gigs and I am not experiencing any problems over there (DJ 1.3)

What else can be done to fix the problem with my pc?

Can you disable the VCI-380 as your ableton sound-card and also reset all the settings in the control panel to default?

I think this may be where your problems lie, as it looks the the MIDI signals sent by the controller have been directed elsewhere. Its clear there is nothing wrong with the controller because it works fine on your Mac so I am assuming it is a setting that you may have enabled somewhere on your Windows machine.

Can you think of any changes at all that you have made between the controller working and not working apart from the 1.5 update?

Cheers, Sam

Dear Sam

The first thing i thought when i saw the midi error was that it had some kind of collision with ableton, this is why i disabled everything concerning VCI-380 in ableton.

I think that everything is default at the vestax control panel as I've re installed the driver, anyhow i'm not sure what are the default settings.

I don't think I've done anything becides updating to 1.5 but it's weird because now the problem consists with 1.3 too.

Please help.

Since this is clearly a connection issue can you please try updating a couple things on your machine. Firstly go through these steps to update the BIOS on your laptop: serato.com also check to see if there is a USB driver update as well.

These are important steps,

Sam

Are you able to try following these steps: serato.com Try and get a DPC trace report and we'll see if there are any driver issues that stand out.

Cheers, Sam

Thanks for your help and time in general i know this is a messy issue for your team

but in general not nice on opposite end buying something that don't work and wasting a considerable amount of time doing so

I have changed, updated, deleted, rebooted on so on from your teams advice

i have also went threw the serato.com website as stated by your team

My computer settings are all over the place with result of testing all options forwarded by the serato team.

again my question is what are my options with this peace of kit ?

Its looking like a full on return with cash refund after the last 24hrs of fiddling around with lap top settings and so on.

Thanking you again for your time

Kind regards

Hey William,

You can always roll back to a previous version of the software: serato.com

Also, I understand you are experiencing problems, there is always bound to be issues with releases that don't get picked up 100% in testing. We are always happy to trouble shoot!

If you would like to enquire about a refund you would need to speak to the vendor where you purchased the controller.

Cheers, Sam

Hey William,

I think your computer is encountering serious issues, you may want to take it to get serviced as it sounds like you harddrive has bad sectors or the disk permissions need to be repaired. This is not a software issue.

Well, I don't understand where can the problem be, as it works on a new virtual machine I just opened, and on my MacBook...

@DJWM

Try to connect your controller to a different PC or MAC and see if the problem persists?

If it does, it might be a faulty controller, if it doesn't it's probably your PC.

Hey William,
