Computer specifications are above minimum requirements.

Core2duo 2.1Ghz, 4Gb RAM.

Already tried the repair option from the control panel, didn't work.

Itch works without any problems.

Hey Dutch,

Sorry for the slow reply. I can help you out with this.

Is this only happening when the controller is connected or in the offline player too? Also can you let me know if it matters which order your connect/open Serato DJ?

Can you also let me know the CPU level, is it maxing out before it crashes?

Sam.
Dutch Bastard 8:10 AM - 3 September, 2013
Hi Sam,

Well, you're here now and that's what counts! :)

1. The controller is NOT connected, so it's offline mode
2. The CPU does NOT max out

Ok cool, as i've mentioned in the other thread, could you try running the DPC trace while in the offline player just to see if there are any other background devices causing problems that could be amplified due to a conflict with the Twitch drivers?

Could you upload the results to the thread?

Sam.
Dutch Bastard 8:56 AM - 3 September, 2013
It crashes right away. The Serato DJ application never starts up so I can't run a trice "while in offline player". That's why this thread is called "crashes on startup".

Sorry man, my head is in a couple of different threads at the moment. Ok since it is crashing even in the offline player, can you please try this to see if it's something with your library or database that is acting strangely:

- Close all programs
- Rename the _Serato_ folder to _Serato_old
- Restart Serato DJ (you should have an empty library)

Let me know if it starts?

Also can you please let me know if it's only this specific version of Serato DJ that doesn't open. If you download and open 1.2.1 does it still crash? You can find this version here:

serato.com

I know this version doesn't support Twitch, it's just to test if it's something specific with this release.

Good idea. I'll test that out tonight. Not near my laptop right now. Thanks!

No changes. Still crashing.

Done it. With 1.2.1, the Serato DJ screen (with library) is visible, but then the application crashes with the same error.

Then I reinstalled 1.3, and the Serato DJ screen doesn't even come up, it crashes right away before anything is visible.

The error points to the MSVCR100.DLL, which is the C++ visual library. This version is apparently shipped with Serato DJ itself because after I remove it Serato DJ puts it back again on startup. And then, again, it crashes.

Hello Dutch Bastard,

sorry for the late replies :-(

Looking at what has already been tried so far, i think we need to dig a little deeper here.

So to sum it up, ITCH 2.2.2. works in offline player, Serato DJ does not. Is that correct?

Can you try the following for me:
Download and install this file directly from microsoft: www.microsoft.com

If that does not fix your issue:
- Rename your _Serato_ folder
- Uninstall Serato DJ
- Remove the file c:\program files (x86)\serato\seratoDJ\DJFX.dll if it is still there

THEN:
1) Close all programs.
2) Open the Start menu.
3) In the search box type "regedit" (minus the quotation marks).
4) Click the regedit.exe icon and the Registry Editor window will now open.
5) Expand the HKEY_CURRENT_USER folder.
6) Expand the Software folder
7) Expand the Serato folder
8) Right click on the SeratoDJ folder, select "rename" and give it a new name (e.g. old_SeratoDJ)

Then reinstall Serato DJ 1.1.2. serato.com
(This version does not support Twitch yet but i would like to narrow down where your issue starts.)

Then try running Serato DJ again.

If that works,
Install Serato DJ 1.3 and try again.

Only if it DOESN'T Work now, try this:
serato.com
But make sure you back up your original DLL files first.

Then let me know how it all went :-)

Cheers

Hi Karl, Itch works fine in offline and online. Serato DJ crashes on startup in offline (and online, obviously) mode.

Tried that already, but done it again to make sure. :)

Done. It still crashes on startup, however, I do get to see the Serato DJ application now, before it crashes.

Hi Dutch Bastard

ok, then please undo the last step (revert back to the original FX DLL files)

Can you now try to create a new user on your computer and test if it works there?
This is just for testing and to find the reason for this behavior.

Cheers

Does it work properly on another computer? Can you test that?
What other Audio hardware drivers do you have installed?

sorry, i got confused with the different threads i'm currently working on, the above should not matter for now as you are having crashes in the offline player already.

Can you please open ITCH once more, disable "read iTunes library" in the setup and then try to run Serato DJ again.

Cheers

I see an option "show itunes library" and it wasn't checked.

Also, I went into the registry and set the itunes library option in SeratoDJ to 0. But after trying to run it, it gets put back to 1.

After I start SeratoDJ I do see the message "itunes library import complete". And then it crashes.

Could you try to create a new iTunes library?

serato.com

I'm just guessing here, but maybe your iTunes library is too big and thus you are having the memory limit issue, which we are currently trying to improve on.

(This is weird. Looks like it's still reading the iTunes library, hence the above post)

Hey Dutch Bastard,

the crash dump didn't give much new information, it's pointing at the MSVCR100.dll which seems to be corrupt in some way on your system.
We install if it's not present, but if replacing it with the source straight from Microsoft doesn't help, then the issue must be somewhere buried in your system.

One last thing i have in mind is you could try to uninstall all antivirus software you may have and check if it works then.

I know this is not ideal, but other than that, at this stage there is not much i can suggest from our end, i'm sorry. It looks to be an issue in your OS.

Yeah sure, everything works, except Serato DJ (which is causing tons of problems on all kinds of systems), but the problem is my OS. I've already done several reinstallations of the C++ library with no effect, so it CAN'T BE a "corrupt" MSVCR100.dll.

Something in Serato DJ is calling something from that library and is causing the crash.

Anyway, this is all very disappointing and it will probably affect my decision making in the future.

Just to be 100 % sure - is this really the case? What about Windows Defender? Is that enabled?

What i'm going to propose now is only an idea and completely up to you if you want to try it, but - would you consider clearing your hard drive and doing a fresh install of your OS?
This is a bit radical but might solve the issue, since i'm assuming something in your OS is interfering. Sorry i have no other ideas to propose at this stage. I'll get someone else to look at this issue as well :-(

I understand. I'm going to do a fresh install soon anyway (new harddisk) so I'll report back when I know something. Itch still works great though.
