AMD processors have issues with streaming audio over their USB bus. It's not just Serato products which are effected.

Some people get lucky with their configuration and it works ok, but the safest option for Serato is to be clear that AMD processors aren't supported, because if your configuration doesn't work, there's nothing that can be done to fix it.

So any laptop with a intel processor would work better?

Provided it meets the rest of the minimum requirement specs, yes.

If you are a laptop DJ and everyone on this site --- it amazes me that folks want to go cheap on the most critical piece of equipment they need to play music digitally, the laptop!!

You get what you pay for. Get a second hand macbook pro that way its cheaper and will work great.

Or buy a cheap pc and then head to the help area when it all goes Pete Tong.

^ straight up man. I used a black macbook I think a 2006/07 model that I bought used for 300 bucks a while back and it ran flawless on Itch and SSL.

Again the only difference with a MacBook and a PC is the dedicated graphics card, so if you can afford a MacBook you can get a PC with way better specs for a 1/3 of the price... so all what you heard is just what people repeat from others and don't know for themselves....

No serato software just runs leaps and bounds better on the macbooks than on pcs. Sure pc will work sometimes but macs seem to work all the time as long as it is upto spec.

Iv used pcs for about 5-6 years with serato software and mac for just over a year and you can really tell the quality difference between them big time!

you just proven my point, a lot of people go buy a laptop and really don't know about specs and when they have issue they blame the pc. then they go purchase a Mac not knowing about specs and the process has less problems. but remember the same issue you have on a pc you have on a Mac. Every body just don't know. the Mac if the Linux kernel was more utilizes the device will be great, but it have power management issues. PC's / macbooks its the owner choice but don't say it runs better without knowing why.

I run pcs and macs with serato. And would always rate the mac better in every way!

True true, I am a DCS Controls Engineer and work with both, but I cannot do any programming or Data aquistion with a Mac. For years a lot of people don't know that there are a lot of codes written into programs and software for seamless integration for Mac's. (for example how many steps do it take to pair an Iphone to you stereo vs an Android device) that was a partnership drawn up years ago between two mogul giants "Steve Jobs and Bill Gates". I can go on but who cares, a lot of individuals out there follow a monkey see monkey policy and they really can't tell you why they have an issue other that it don't work.

I don't understand how this is open to opinions, I really don't. Serato simply runs better on macs. End of story. Some get lucky with PC's but the vast majority don't. Do not be fooled by some here that say if you get a PC with good enough specs it will run serato just fine. The truth is it will run Serato just fine in theory but reality is a bitch and sets in just as the beat drops!!! Don't be "that guy". Just like LJ here this is coming from an unbiased PC/Mac user. I like using my PC for daily tasks, entertainment, & internet use a.) because my GF knows how to use it b.) because I happen to like windows more (I know, I know sorry I just do) and c.) because I don't give a crap if it malfunctions (software-wise not hardware) because I don't keep anything of value on it and the slightest hiccup and ZAP!!! new OS!!

My macs on the other hand get the royal treatment because besides me they are my most valuable employees (them and my nexus system) in this whole operation and they make me a LOTTT of money. I also found that the day I purchased a mac my stress went away. I actually had a minimal stress with the PC/serato thing but still stress none-the-less.


This is not always ignorance. There are many issues that come up with PC's that are never able to be fully explained nor is there an explanation to be given. They just simply don't work with it. With PC's there are many compatibility issues and third party manufacturers as well as third party software developers creating a plethora of binary madness. This issue does not come up very often with macs. They just work............... end of story.

BTW Macs just like Pioneer CDJ's do face the ugly hate by those who cannot afford them.

Papa Midnight knows serato works better on Mac and im quite sure he even knows why. But I seriously doubt it will affect his windows preference.

It works like dog poo on AMD suck it up I had to I had 2 machines that got made redundant because of the issue but lets not forget Serato is not the only program that doesn't work with AMD!

The bottom line is get a Mac if you want it to run flawless or get a Intel based pc and use it only for dj'ing remove all bloatware and anti viruses and keep it offline and you wont have any issues either
