USB Buffer Size (Latenzy) on VCI-300

I just got my VCI-300 and I wonder what buffer size is the best to play.
When setting the value at 256 I get small dropouts, at 512 it seems to play smoothly.
(MBP 2.4 GHz, 2GB Ram, Mac OS 10.5.4, left USB port used for VCI-300)
What are your settings?

Is this correct? To compute the latency (seconds), divide the buffer size through the sample rate (Hz):
256/44100 = 6ms <- this is acceptable
256/44100 = 6ms <- this is acceptable

Just like in SSL this just represents the buffer latency, that does not represent the total I/O latency. In SSL the best achievable latency is about 8ms at buffer size 1. So you have to add 7ms to the buffer latency value.
I have no clue how much it is for ITCH - something a moderator has to answer (and hopefully does).

I need to have 512 buffer size, so my latency is about 12+7 ms, this is noticeably :-(

7ms is the additional latency for SSL not for ITCH. ITCH's additional latency must be definitly higher.
