Serato Software Feature Suggestions

What features would you like to see in Serato software?

track sorting improvement

DJ Hondai 2:07 PM - 6 February, 2006
Hi fellas,

this might just be a slight improvement, but I believe it would simplify our life dramatically ;-)

Right now the track information can only be sorted by one column via clicking the header.

How about having 2 sorting keys at once like in a real database.
Having a
Main Key (e.g. Track Rating)
and a
Secondary Key (e.g. Release Date)

So you could really get your stuff ready and sorted.
nik39 2:13 PM - 6 February, 2006
Yep, good idea.
DJ Nat 1:30 AM - 10 February, 2006
Sounds good...

Will a Track Rating field be implemented soon??
djdsk 2:09 PM - 11 April, 2006
This is great for my parties i could select rnb rap dancehall as ui play theese genres together and other night when i gotta slect house , breakbeat ,elctro .

Nice idea.
Nicky Blunt 3:58 PM - 23 March, 2007

I use iTunes smart playlists as a workaround for this. ^^^

On top of this, it would be great to be able to select 2 crates or playlists (or more) and have all those tracks show up in one list. ie Shift clicking 2 albums - one list of tracks.
Charlie McBride 7:54 AM - 9 January, 2008
Great idea.

Wicked idea!!!
scruzdj 7:35 PM - 23 May, 2008
Add my vote here for hierarchical sorting... sort by bpm, then comment (key, in my case). Or, for ex, if you sort by bpm first and then by genre, you end up with a list of each genre that ascends or descends by bpm.
Zuck 4:45 PM - 26 July, 2008
I second the motion!
SIS 10:48 PM - 29 January, 2009
Absolutely necessary.

I had been using an Excel spreadsheet that allowed me to do just this. I would regularly use three columns to sort with hierarchically. . . and could have each hierarchical sort be ascending or descending. I could perform this sorting quickly via shortcut keys, and it really reduced the time it took me to make my next track selection.

Here's an example of how I would use multiple sorting keys:
Current track playing is "electro" with a bpm of 128 in the Camelot key of 4B. My next track I want to also be electro, be near to 128, and be in the same or adjacent key. I would sort via electro/bpm/camelot key.

There are other things I would sort by too, a few would be "energy" (which isn't always coorelated to the bpm), and mood (0-10 = sad to happy).

Needless to say, I wouldn't limit how many sorting keys can be used. It's the day and age of Object Oriented Programming, you can make this happen.

Of course, this feature isn't much good unless columns correlating to custom ID3 tags are available. Which is also a must in my opinion and though not the topic of this thread, very much related.

+1 from me as well!

I like this idea, I'm just posting because my other suggestion was that when you sort something like by artist the program should omit the "the" in the group/artist name. eg. "The O'Jay's" should be found under the O's as opposed to the T's.

Still like Hondai's idea thought

any idea if the feature suggestions forums are still admininstrated?
there are like 1000 topics in here but no serato response for a long time now :(
Dj Knockout101 6:42 AM - 28 December, 2009
They say that they go threw them and read, but there is no proof, besides of the few ideas that is implemented in Serato already, like sampler!!!
ilasik 3:51 PM - 3 July, 2010
Really need this!! +1, Please!

Should be able to first sort by BPM, and then sort by Camelot, (keeping the BPM sorting) , then sort by genre, and then by date, etc..

My other data bases allow me to do this, it can't be too difficult to implement, and it would make organizing so much better.
ilasik 3:53 PM - 3 July, 2010
Wow. I just see now that people have been asking for this for 4 years!!!

Hard to believe, not even a response...

I completely agree. Better sorting features is WAY OVERDUE.

It is very sad that Serato isn't quicker to implement ideas like this (or at least respond to their users). I think it's safe to say that they are loosing some market share to competitors because of things like this. I guess in the end it is their loss.
King Fader 10:06 PM - 10 July, 2010
yes
BSniekers 7:34 AM - 24 July, 2010
YES! +1... How sweet would it be to just look at your Recently Added list and see them there sorted by date, and then by key.... Heaven!
serkan 9:33 PM - 25 July, 2010
I'm wondering if there is ANY software that can't do this. I mean, it can't be that hard?!
4mydawgz 11:17 PM - 7 August, 2010
hey this was my idea... wow. this was created in 2006 and still nothin has been implemented?
djchrischip 1:01 AM - 11 October, 2010
Gazzinho 11:51 AM - 11 January, 2011
How about:

If you click a column heading that becomes the primary sort column, then if you Ctrl/Cmd-click another heading that becomes the secondary sort column, Ctrl/Cmd-click another column that becomes the tertiary, etc etc.
When you subsequently click a column heading without Ctrl/Cmd pressed everything resets and that column becomes the new primary sort column.

I'd love to be able to sort by Year (primary), Artist (secondary), Track name (tertiary).

If they could allow us to sort by multiple columns, they're library functionality would be +10000x better than whatever they have planned next.

Come-on SSL devs, stop screwing around. Give us the option to CTRL + Click on columns so we can multi-sort columns, or something
nik39 12:44 PM - 26 July, 2011
SL already automatically sorts by a second column.
LJ_WOOLSEY 12:55 PM - 26 July, 2011
Not really

Sort BPM AND KEY.
ARTIST AND BPM
COLOR DOT AND BPM
And loads other combos.

Automatically yes, but we cannot change that second column. We're asking for the ability to choose the second column
nik39 11:41 AM - 28 July, 2011
Then you should word your suggestions better.

The original post is from 2006 which requests a second column sort (If it was implemented back then I don't remember). However Gazzinho's post of January 2011 pitches another idea, still a track sorting improvement
prizo 12:14 AM - 11 February, 2012
I knew you guys on here would of thought of this!! Now that I am using mixedinkey I really would like to be able to sort by bpm and key. This can't be too difficult, can it? Like Hondai said years ago, most databases have this feature. What do you think? Anyone else still interested in this?
