the key is keeping the energy smooth but steady. Blending classic soul with newer R&B works really well if you match tempos before bringing in the next track soul transitions can feel jarring if the BPM jump is too big. I’ve also found that dropping in a few live versions or extended cuts adds some personality without breaking the vibe. Curious to see what Kenny Kixx included, because those playlists usually have a nice balance of nostalgia and groove.

If you’re putting together a Soul Food Fest style mix in Serato, the fun part is blending those classic soul tracks with newer grooves so the energy never drops. I’ve found it helps to set a few cue points on the older songs since their intros can be a little looser rhythmically. Also, try using Serato’s key analysis to match some of the deeper soul cuts with modern R&B it makes the transitions feel surprisingly smooth. Would love to see which tracks Kenny Kixx included so I can try a similar flow in my own sets.
