Three Reasons To Upgrade To Serato DJ

SERATO REMOTE

Once you've upgraded to Serato DJ you will be able to purchase and use Serato Remote - Our first App for iPad.

Serato Remote lets you see and perform all of your favorite Serato DJ functions without needing to touch your laptop. Control Cue Points, Loops and Samples. Load tracks and manipulate FX in ways that weren't previously possible. This is perfect for users of controllers that don't have a lot of hardware controls such as cue points, FX controls and looping functions.

RECORDING

Using the Record feature to record your mix is an essential tool to get your song heard.

Serato DJ can capture recordings of the mix output for most controllers*. Click the REC button to open the Recording Panel in Serato DJ. This is located in the top left hand area of the main screen.

*Recording is not possible for the Numark MixDeck and MixDeck Express.

Here's a step-by-step walkthrough to start recording your mix:

  1. Ensure the Recording source to record from is selected as MIX from the drop down menu.
  2. The recording meter shows the signal level that will be recorded to disk. Adjust the recording level using the gain control to ensure that your songs aren't clipping. You can see if a song is clipping by seeing red bars in the recording meter. (For optimum recording levels, attempt to have the meter in the high end of the yellow region during the loudest parts of your tracks).
  3. Click the REC button to start recording. The REC button will be lit red and flashing, and the Elapsed Recording Time display will keep a count of the recording time.
  4. When you are finished mixing click the flashing red REC button to stop recording.
  5. To save the recording to disk, type a filename into the text field, and click SAVE.
  6. The recording is automatically placed in a crate named “Recording”. If the crate does not already exist, it will be created automatically.
  7. To start a new recording without saving, simply click the record button again.

Recordings can now be loaded onto the decks, renamed, and managed like other files in the Serato DJ Library.

If you want to go further and share your mix then take a look at these instructions on How To Share Your Mix.

SERATO VIDEO

You may want to take your sets to the next level, or you might just want to play music videos?

Whatever the reason, Serato Video is the best option for adding a powerful visual element to your sets. It's also a key feature you'll have support to when you upgrade to Serato DJ.

In fact - If you're thinking of upgrading to Serato DJ and would like to get busy with video, then we definitely recommend you upgrade to a Serato DJ + Serato Video bundle license, which is only USD199 from the Serato Online Store.

We've made it really easy to grab some free video content from Beeple once you've got the power of Serato Video added to you DJ arsenal. Just take a look over here on how to get the the free Beeple video content.

Here's a demo video of Serato DJ + Serato Video, using the Denon MC2000.

Love the video plugin & the ability to record your sets, however, it would be great if after a long night, if you forget to save the mix & start to close Serato DJ, a warning prompt to save your mix would appear. I and a number of people who use the rec feature have done this many times.

Recordings are saved already :)

In your Music folder ("My Music" on Windows, "Music" on OS X), open the folder "_Serato_", then open "Recording temp". If you forgot to save the file, the last file recorded will be there. Be careful though, it will be over-written if you start to record a new file.

Thank you for that reply - I'm passing it on to my fellow Serato DJ friends.

No problem. By the way, that also applies to ITCH.

Picks up my NS7 mic just fine. I can also assign it to a deck. This might be a hardware limitation with the DDJ.

Does the Serato remote work without a controller? Wondering if this is a good backup option if your controller goes down during a gig.

...that's not what it's made for :P

Serato Remote is designed as... a remote (no pun intended) program to control functions of SSL and SDJ without the need to have a laptop positioned in front of you.

It will not function independent of either program.
JFruits 11:36 AM - 15 August, 2013
Correct, what I am asking is will the SDJ remote work with just the software if not controller is plugged in, but you are using the SDJ software? Or does SDJ not work without a controller?

Will all of these functions be available for numark v7 once the serato dj update comes?
Papa Midnight 8:56 PM - 15 August, 2013
Due to the inherent hardware limitation (as the Numark V7 requires the usage of an external mixer), I do not believe recording will be available within Serato DJ for that device (similar to ITCH). You will need to use another means to record your set such as a line-in from the mixer's line-out.

Back from another big set (1500+ people), and would like to confirm a second time that i felt I was going to go cross-eyed with the d*mn greyscale track list!! WHAT A PAIN IN THE... :((((((
Guys PLEASE fix it pronto with your immediate next release because it's really serious! Except for getting a huge headache trying to spot our selections/played-before tracks since they look practically´╗┐ identical with the unplayed tracks (which are NOT our selections), it's all taking tooo much time.... :((i am using a ddi sx
djhypaz 12:24 AM - 27 August, 2013
i prefer how scratch live was set up with the tracks that played was highlighted in green!!
devohb 3:35 AM - 23 October, 2013

Does anyone know if you can revive any recordings that you accidentally re-recorded over. I actidentally hit record and it re-wrote over the auto-saved recording

I forgot to end the recording by not hitting the rec button at the end of the session. Is the recording gone?
