Hi Guys.

Am I right in saying that m4p files are not compatible with Serarto Itch? I'm a bit gutted cos I have about 4000 songs in m4p format and spent thousands of pounds on them.

Serato does state that Itch is compatible with iTunes, do they just mean m4a?

Only got my vci-300 yesterday and I'm proper gutted.

Please help.

transcode them all. Or wait to see if they support it with future updates. I suspect they won't because of license fees though

sorry chap, what do you mean by transcode?

use software to change the file type. Google trancoding m4p and I'm sure you'll find something appropriate

I have tried noteburner etc. I have 2,000 songs that are in m4p format and keep encountering errors.

I haven't ever had to so this myself so I can't be much help with specifics but suffice it to say that I learned a lot reading the first few hits on google

Thanks for your help casket, im gonna try burning them to a virtual disc. It is misleading though that Serato state its Itch software is compatible with iTunes when in reality it isn't.

If anyone else has any suggestions then feel free to dig in, thanks again casket.

iTunes is compatible with Serato! Just not the song purchased at the iTunes online Store (these song are protected m4p). Your m4p tracks must be converted to mp3, which is available in iTunes. Right click on one or more songs and you will see in the drop down an option to convert to mp3.

No DJ software out there supports m4p. Songs bought on iTunes are copy protected (DRM) and will only play in iTunes and on iPods. You have to convert them to a different format like m4a or mp3 in order to be able to use them with ITCH or SSL.

The official way is to burn all tracks on audio CDs and rip them as mp3. You will loose audio quality in the process and 4000 tracks probably means burning and ripping around 200 CDs. With a virtual CD writer it's easier (if it works) but still lots of work.

To avoid both quality loss and the burning and ripping process CDs you could check out the hymn software project but I don't know if it still works with recent versions of iTunes. It basically removes the copy protection from the files.
