just got 57SL + CDJ 800's. anyone else have this setup?

chims 8:52 PM - 2 September, 2008
ok...walked into GC this wknd and they were having a laborday wknd sale. ive been considering a CDJ setup so I can have a smaller, lighter setup than my 1200's setup—something that i can fit in my acura TL trunk so i dont have to borrow a car for mobile gigging.

so i've been messing with this new setup for a few days. my old setup was 2 1200's and a vestax 07 pro. i don't see myself utilizing the midi controls on the 57SL often enough. I'm used to the keyboard and have no prob using that, so I might ditch it and just use my 07 until i ball out of control.

does anyone else have this setup? if you do, let me know if you like it or not and any suggestions on how i can maximize it. im considering the Marathon cdj coffin with the laptop tray too. im also considering the vestax vci-300, but im not sure if i can get used to that tiny setup.

I've used that set up and the I think the CDJ-800s suck. I would of got the CDJ-600s over the 800s.
marknonsense1 3:25 AM - 3 September, 2008
take the "the" out of that. . . .lol ^^^^^^^^
chims 6:50 AM - 3 September, 2008
why do they suck?

i never heard of CDJ 600's either—did you mean 400's, which isn't currently supported by serato (or is it?).

anyone else have opinions on this setup? i boxed my 57SL. i think its going back to GC until i get more ends. =T
marknonsense1 7:29 PM - 3 September, 2008
you're right the 400s then, sorry. Well they suck because when I was using them the only think I could think of was WOW!, these SUCK. . . lol
chims 7:38 PM - 3 September, 2008
haha...i had that feeling at first too. but it not so bad once you get used to it. nothing will beat the feel of 1200's, but this will be primarily for mobile gigging...and for the sake of my back!
Dj Ohh 2:47 PM - 5 September, 2008
the CDJ 400s are very good when you consider their size and price. (you also get built-in effects. I purchased a pair to travel with overseas and using them with the 57SL was sheer delight. Coming from 1200 to Cdj400 is quite a step and should be taken with a patience.

i'm doing turntables in individual cases... For mobile gigs I have as many things on wheels as possible
Shifty1 7:32 PM - 6 September, 2008
i use an 800 with my 57...love it...
treeo730 1:55 AM - 7 September, 2008
Yeah.. keep the 57 trust me once you start to use the 57 and start mapping things they way you want you'll never touch the keyboard. I have the 400's and i really don't like the feel of them. Got it because of the native with serato. I actually do have the beta copy(ssl) since I don't use a hub, so it works fine. You can actually get away with one 400 and the 57 and just use doubles. For a mobile gig it's the easiest setup. But for normal parties I always use my vinyl control.

I have this setup........... I love it i like to use my 800's over my 1200s sometimes.

I have the 1000Mk2. I've also messed with the 800Mk2. I think the platter on the 800Mk2 has a much better feel than then ones I have.

lol . . . I don't really have wak ass 800s man, I was trying to show the other deejays that you're lying about liking the 800s over the 1000s.
marknonsense1 2:39 AM - 13 September, 2008
And yes people I really don't have anything better to do then play around on scratchlive.net (haha)
dj_KaSE 2:41 AM - 13 September, 2008
Nope, not lying about how the platter feels better on the 800Mk2 than on the 1000Mk2.

just gigged with this setup this past weekend and it worked very nicely. even on of my guest dj buddies came in and adapted to it quick for the first time using CDJs. the only thing that i don't like about it is that it put a big dent in my wallet!
treeo730 1:40 AM - 17 September, 2008
Hey Chims they now have native support for the CDJ400.. It works really nice. Honestly you should at least try it. If your looking for mobility you owe it to yourself. GC has a really good return policy. I had the 800 and then tried the 400, I told what I was doing and to keep the 800 handy incase I came back, ended up keeping the 400.

I have a wedding I'm doing and I'm only taking my 57, laptop and one CDJ400...instant doubles baby. Call me lazy but it works nice for those types of gigs, regular gigs I use my tech's
Dj Ace 3:30 AM - 23 September, 2008
so does itch and a vci-300...priceless
DJ LTIZZZLE 9:01 AM - 26 September, 2008
I got the 1000 mk3's ;-) Yes i know it's overkill, but "it tricking if you got it"

but i love my 1210 mg5's alot better. I just rock the Cdjs when i'm feeling lazy.

Why an over kill? I would like to stay with tables but they seems to keep taking money and over time will cost even more then the 1000s. I'm only learning the 1000s cause that's what my company is going to have me using. . .

Ive seen that the 800's develop a slight bit of "play" in the jog-wheel in more than one pair.
its very minimal for mixing, but whenever you would try to do an uber tight scribble the wheel wouldnt respond precisely because of this slight "play" in the wheel.

perhaps its something that can be remedied with a little tightning of a screw somewhere...

I havent noticed this on the 1000Ks too much, then again every set of them I seem to play on are almost new.
