Using my PC built-in speakers

I'm trying to use my computer's built-in speakers instead of buying a couple of powered speakers (almost no room for them in my table!)
I connected a RCA cable from the master out of the vci-300 to the audio jack of the PC, I selected the vci-300 instead of the motherboard sound card on the control panel > sound settings > speakers... but still the sound from the vci-300 doesn't come out of the speakers, there's something more I'm missing? Any idea will be welcome.
Cheers.

you'll have to open a recording application and activate the channels to drive the process of input and output.
you could do this in something like quicktime or audacity.

Thanks for the input, Josh.
I'm afraid I don't know what you mean by "activating the channels". I installed audacity and all I get at the Preferences > Audio I/O drop-down list is a choice between "Microsoft Sound mapper" and SigmaTel audio (my PC sound card)...?

try record enabling the channels you want to have as input, not actually recording on them, just enbled to record.
that's what I mean by activate the channels. It's the most usual way of enabling an input.
