I switch on my NS6, plug it into the mac, then start-up SDJ.
Load a track onto Deck A - press play, try out some fx using the NS6 FX A (left) controls.
Ie: I switch on the FX Unit by pressing the large FX A button & the ch1 small fx A button.
Load a track onto Deck B - press play, turn off ch1 fx by pressing ch1 fx A button (led-off)
Turn on ch2 fx by pressing ch2 fx A button (led-on), this is still while the main fx unit is on.
Result = Deck B's sound is muted. The decks vu meters still bounce up & down, but no sound is output through the headphones or master. The deck/channel that gets muted seems to depend on which small fx button is pressed. If the Master fx button is pressed then all the sound disappears. This seems to happen mostly after SDJ has just started up (within the first couple of mixes). I haven't been able to find a solution to bring the sound back yet, I end up having to switch off or unplug the NS6 to get things back to normal again. I can't replicate this issue, it happens randomly.

Hey Acemc,

Thanks for getting in touch,

This is a strange issue, I have tried to recreate it here several times, but cant seem to get the same result as you?

1. Can you please send me your full mac specs?
Navigate to --> APPLE / ABOUT THIS MAC / MORE INFO.
Copy this information and send it to me please.

2. Are you using any external hard drives to organise your music?
3. Are you using any USB devices?
4. I noticed you are running MAC OS X 10.6.8, have you thought about upgrading to the latest OSX 10.8? I would recommend doing this.
acemc 9:07 PM - 28 February, 2013
Hi Jamie W.
Thanks for looking into this for me. Here are my specs:
Version 10.6.8
Processor 2.66 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo
Memory 8 GB 1333 Mhz DDR3
Startup Disk OCZ Agility 3 240 GB SSD Trim Enabled
Link Speed 3 Gigabit, Negotiated Speed 3 Gigabit (OSX & all applications)
Macintosh hd 2 Seagate Momentus 750 GB 7200 HDD
Link Speed 3 Gigabit, Negotiated Speed 3 Gigabit (Music Only)

As you can see from the specs, Im using a SSD for the OS & all apps.
I use another HDD in the DVD bay for all my music, so no external drives at all.
The only thing that get's plugged into the USB is the NS6.
I have considered updating my mac to the latest version, but......
Im currently using Traktor Scratch 2.6.0 due to audio issue's with Itch (random drop-outs) Traktor is working perfectly at the moment, so I'm very reluctant to update the OS & possibly introduce a problem. Im playing 3 night's a week (wed, fri & saturdays) which only leaves me with 3 days (of which sunday I sleep half the day away) to troubleshoot if something were to go pear-shape. I don't feel like I can take that sort of risk.
I'm gonna try my best to find a sequence to this problem, so that you have exact steps to replicate it. I'll be in touch as soon as I can.
Thanks again.

Hey Acemc,

Thanks for that information,
I apologise it has taken me a few days to get back to you!

We are doing some testing re this issue at the moment,
can I get you to try the following for me please.

1. Copy 50 or so tunes from your DVD HDD drive onto your startup disk (the same disk your applications are installed on)
2. Launch SERATO DJ
3. Create a new crate
4. Add those tune to the crate
5. Have a mix and try recreate the issue.

Let me know how you get on :)

Hi Jamie W.
Sorry for the late response, I tried your suggestions.
The same thing still happens, I'm out of ideas. Seems like Im not the only one having this issue. Perhaps looking at all our specs we can find a common denominator somehow?

Hey Acemc,

Thanks for that information,

Can I get you to try the following,

1. Open up a finder window and click your Macintosh HD icon.
2. Click on your user profile 'House' icon.
3. Click on 'Library'.
4. Click on 'Preferences'.
5. COPY the "Serato.DJ.plist" and "com.serato.serato.dj" file to your desktop.
6. Now Delete the 'Serato.DJ.plist files from the preference folder.
6. Reinstall SERATO DJ 1.1.2
7. Connect your NS6 and launch SERATO DJ 1.1.2

Do you have the same issues?

Please upload the two plist files to this thread and we will do some further testing on them and get back to you.

Let me know how you get on :)

Thanks.

I can only find "com.serato.dj.plist"
Not finding any "serato.dj.plist" in the preference folder, is that normal??
acemc 10:08 AM - 3 April, 2013
Just tried reinstalling - same problem. Perhaps coz I couldn't find & delete the "serato.dj.plist"?

Huuuuuge discovery here!!!
Although this didn't resolve the fx muting issue, it might have just solved another big problem, one that has actually prevented me from using SDJ out live. The random audio glitches / drop-outs that I was experiencing seem to have stopped. Also my fx on/off switch has started working again. Previously, although i would show that it switched off on-screen, it was actually still on if I put my dry/wet slider up. Also no more audio glitches when changing the fx on the channel fx switches.
Overall this has been a worthwhile test, thanks for the help.

@acemc
I will try this, because I have also drop outs.

This is my mistake. I got the file names slightly incorrect.

1. com.serato.dj.plist (this one you have deleted already)
2. com.serato.seratodj.plist

Can you go back into the preference window and remove the other plist file.
1. Move it to your desktop.
2. Send it to me.
3. Delete the file.

Launch SERATO DJ, has this had any affect on your FX muting issue?

Thanks again for getting back to me with this information, I really appreciate it :-)

I deleted the 2nd file (attached) and........ so far, so good.
I started up & quit SDJ about 4 times & couldn't get the problem to happen again.
Normally within the first 2 start-ups I could get it to act up.
I also played for about 2hrs without any major problems, I did have one or two small audio glitches, but nothing like I was having before. It seems like this might be the answer.....
Touch wood quick!! I'll report back in a day or two just to update you on if this is truly fixed.
Seriously though, thanks for your help Jamie. It's greatly appreciated :)

Hey Whitewhitelight,

Please start your own help thread and we will help you out as soon as possible :)
I would advise you DONT delete PLIST files until you have gone through the basic troubleshooting steps first.
acemc 5:39 PM - 19 April, 2013
Ok, sorry for the rather delayed report back.
Alas, the fx mute problem is still there. BUT...... I have found a solution for this!!!
I have now realized that this problem only happens when I have the NS6 switched on & connected to my mac before I start-up SDJ. So, my solution is to start SDJ first, wait for my massive library to load (this takes a good 3- 5 mins). Once I see that my library is loaded & SDJ is in offline mode, I then connect my NS6. Once it connects, no more problems with the FX muting any decks / master. I know this is a work-around, but it does work - for sure. I would strongly recommend anyone else experiencing this problem to try this. If you're in a habit of always connecting the NS6 first, just disconnect & reconnect it, once SDJ has loaded up your collection etc. Obviously make sure you do this before you start your set!!
This is guaranteed to prevent the fx-mute issue, as well as the fx on/off button not working.

Hey Acemc,

Thanks for reporting back!
We are at the stage where there really isn't anything else I can troubleshoot for you.

I have passed this information onto our developers.
Its a strange issue! but we are aware of it and hopefully can have it resolved in a future update. Thats all the information I have at this stage.

For now I would advise your workaround.

Let me know if you have any other questions :)

Thanks!

Hi Jamie W. It's cool. The audio glitches are way less than previously & I have found a workaround for the muting issue I had. So, this has been very worthwhile for me as I'm actually able to use SDJ now. Thanks for all your help.
