Scratch LIVE 1.8.2 Public Beta

Serato
James 4:27 AM - 21 July, 2008
Is now available here -> scratchlive.net

About the Public Beta Area:

There is a new area set up for the duration of the public beta. This area will contain the beta downloads, and we will also manage feedback in this area. This area will only be visible if you are logged in.

There are some very specific requests, guidelines and rules for anyone who participates in the public beta, and you will have to agree to these rules before you can join in the public beta - you don't need to agree now, a full list of the conditions will be displayed before you can get to the beta, and you'll have to click on an "I agree button" to continue. But since many of you are probably keen to get involved, here's an overview of what's involved in being part of the public beta.

- The public beta should be treated as unstable.
Do not use it at your gig, only test the beta if you can afford to have the system fail on you in some way. We've been beta testing 1.8.2 for months now, but we make no guarantees, it is still a beta. Requests for help posted in the public beta area will be ignored. If you have a support issue with any of the versions previous to 1.8.2, post them in the help area and we'll help you out.

- Please read all of the release notes before using the Public Beta.

- Please be as descriptive as possible.
Every post should describe the scenario under which the bug occurred, what operating system you are using, what type of machine, and any other relevant information. Please try to name the thread in a way that clearly describes the problem. List the steps you went through to make the problem occur, and how to reproduce it. For example.
Step 1: Put The left Virtual Deck into REL mode
2: Load a track to the left Virtual Deck
3: Start the track and click the loop in button
etc

- Stay on topic.
We will be ruthless in locking threads that veer off topic, and bear in mind that the public beta area will be going away when the final version is complete, so if an interesting conversation develops, move it to the General Discussion area.

- Where possible, verify reported bugs.
If you see someone else reporting a bug, see if you can reproduce it on your system. This will help us to resolve the bug faster, and it will also differentiate between bugs that occur on any machine given a set of circumstances, or if it is specific to one machine.

- Don't be offended if your question goes unanswered.
The moderators who will be reading the public beta areas will be looking for specific things - namely bugs to fix. In many cases this information will be taken back to the lab, dissected, boiled and distilled, all with the intention of fixing the problem. Not every report will be responded to, for several reasons. We might have a good idea what the problem is, and wait until we have a fix, for example. Or there might be several bug reports which we can see are caused by the same underlying bug. If you have a question that isn't about the beta, and it hasn't been answered, post it again in the relevant thread - Help, Feature suggestions or General.

Why are we doing a public beta?

There are several reasons to do a public beta. The number one reason is speed. More people looking for bugs = finding bugs faster = getting started on the next version sooner = more cool stuff = less waiting.

Why doesn't it have feature xyz?

There is a balance between implementing lots of improvements, and timely releases. We try to keep the changes between each version small so that they come out more often. If it's not in this version, don't think the feature you are after isn't coming!

Cheers,
James

Konix 7:20 PM - 2 August, 2008
The zoom feature is for making the font bigger, not smaller.

seratosnatch 11:42 AM - 26 August, 2008
any chance for jog wheel support /midi in this release?
Rob - Low 7:16 PM - 26 August, 2008
For gods sake, can we get a sampler. Thats all i want for christmas ;-)
seratosnatch 7:31 PM - 26 August, 2008
I think VST/AU support would open the door to effects and then it is up to the user to use what he/she wants on each channel. If one does not want fx and & wants just the standard Serato, then it is in their hands.
Maskrider 1:35 AM - 27 August, 2008
Probably not anytime soon.

adding code to a release candidate would bump it back to lower beta status and extend the testing phase. besides, adding more code is not as simple as you think. there are other things to consider when implementing major functions and adequate testing must be done before handing it over to the public for public beta testing.
seratosnatch 6:24 AM - 28 August, 2008
I agree with Teheben on this. It could be soon though, maybe 1.8.3
kidbanga10 9:49 AM - 28 August, 2008
it would be awesome to have a sampler
Konix 1:41 PM - 28 August, 2008
And if people ACTUALLY read the release notes and instructions, since I know no one does, you'd find...

Quote:

- The public beta is feature-complete.
Meaning that we won't be adding anything new to 1.8.2 once the beta is released. All work will be on fixing bugs. Feature suggestions posted in the public beta area will be ignored ... but that doesn't mean we don't want them, just that we want them in the feature suggestions area. If you have a suggestion for how to expand a feature, please post it in the feature suggestions area. However, if you do have a specific complaint about something that has changed since 1.8.1, please DO post it in the public beta area.

I wonder if the MIDI problem has been fixed. I use swedish Win XP PRO ( with licence and everything ) and i couldnt assign any MIDI. I wrote to someone about the problem and answer i got was shocking; It was some bug in ( i think it was 1.8.0 version ) where, if you have any other XP version then english , you couldn´t assign MIDI ? have this been fixed ? I´v not been djíng for some time now, been making some tracks, but i want to use my radium 61 MIDI keybord or Evolution UC 33 with Serato ? Does beta have this support or is it still work in progress ?

The problem was that the MIDI presets weren't saving. This has been fixed in 1.8.2. You can head over the 1.8.2 public beta area if you want to help out with testing it....
John Nasty 12:41 PM - 5 September, 2008
Ahhh , thank alot James. I was waiting for the problem on the discussion created by me , but nothing came :). Once again, thank you for answering =)

Hi guys, I've just started DJing , but I'm facing the problem that I can not organise my library, actually I can't find out what song sould I play after playing one. I such understand that the BPM of the next track sould be the equal to currently playing track when its not , I'm messing up while I'm mixing the 2 tracks.

Any suggesions ?

Thanks in advance pals

1.8.2 has gone final! Huge thanks to everyone who helped in the 1.8.2 Public Beta Area!

Thanks again guys and girls!
DJ Prinvale` 6:30 AM - 15 September, 2008
Maintenance releases aren't very exciting but I'm extremely happy to see it. More stable and rock solid software gets two big thumbs up in my book!
dj hammurabi 4:40 PM - 15 September, 2008
Where the hell is SERATO on support for Leopard updates????

Come on.. someone chime in. Apple OS X is at 10.5.4 now and as far as I know, SSL only supports up to 10.5.1

Three updates behind?

Anyone have info on this?
Konix 5:34 PM - 15 September, 2008
SSL works "fine" on 10.5.4, and all versions of Leopard really. It's not like the program doesn't load and work, it does. Just some, but not all, users reported dropout problems with 10.5.2. Now 10.5.3 and 10.5.4 are having problems with FAT32 formatted external drives. These are Apple problems though mostly, not SSL.

But I and many other been using 10.5.4 without issue (unless you're using a FAT32 ext drive). The "not officially supported" status is more of a cautionary statement and not a "it doesn't work at all" statement.
dj hammurabi 5:37 PM - 15 September, 2008
Thanks Konix,

After re-reading my post... I think I just needed to vent. haha.
Done. I'd still like the "Officially Supported" tag though.
DJ SHY 8:25 PM - 15 September, 2008
hmmm....10.5.5 just dropped....
Big Phyll 4:08 AM - 16 September, 2008
Update looks good. SSL has been stable for me on both of my Macs, but I definitely see many improvements in 1.8.2.

Much props to Team Serato.
