Was the Pioneer Remix 1000 a waste of money for the type of music I mainly play?

Hello fellow DJ's, I just recently purchased the remix 1000 I'm just waiting on delivery. My question is I mainly play to a hip hop and R&B crowd with some house and techno sprinkled in some of the time. After looking at every you tube video about the remix 1000 I have yet to see someone utilize this excellent piece of hardware on a hip hop & R&B level. I know this unit is geared towards a EDM genre. I bought this unit to improve my mix tapes and to be able to create different transitions when blending songs. It's a lot of money to pay for something that I know I would have to spend hours and hours of practice before using live. Was this a waste of Money?

i had one for about a month, just returned it. my setup for the last 8 years has been a djm 909 and 2 cdj's. just last month one of my mk3's finally died and i've upgraded to the 900s. bought an RMX while i was at the store just as a toy.
i spin in the mobile world, but im not a point and click dj. i liked what i saw in the videos for the rmx and was into the idea of some basic live remixing and creating tension and buildups with the unit. i'm already attached to my 909s effects so i figured it would be the next step up.
i liked the unit. i didnt love it. at 700 bucks for a toy, i better love it. the auto tempo was too slow to pickup correct bpms which made things more annoying than they needed to be. my 909 in its all of its ancient glory has always been spot on. it seems like pioneer (and most other companies) are leaning more towards the whole EDM thing lately where everything is a straight beat and quantized perfectly - doesn't work in my world of weddings where you have to play everything. the rmx had trouble picking up a lot of hip hop tempos, or any tempos of songs that didnt have a lot of heavy kicks.
onto how it sounds - i dig it. its very cool to create giant sounding walls of death, only to drop them back with the vinyl brake at the last second - but how many times a night can i really do that??? it took quite a few hours (over a week or so) of practice to dial in sounds and techniques that i liked, but in the end i found myself sounding pretty repetitive. again, not bad sounding, but for 700 bucks, i should be in love with the thing. also, it takes a long time to sound great on the unit. it's super easy to let things get wayyyy out of control - one wrong twist of a knob and you're in static noise land of death and destruction.
i was also psyched over the sampler and autorolling that i could do. however, when the thing doesn't quantize well, and doesn't continue to monitor tempo from the input source, it's useless to me. with the way i mix i'm constantly varying pitch a little bit on both decks - so i cant just leave the thing on to play my recorded drum beat that i tapped in 20 seconds ago. not for anything, but my djm900 is traktor certified, and the remix decks option is fulfilling all of my sampler needs and then some - all while allowing me to have serato playing my main music. (still dont trust traktor!)
i was also surprised to see pioneer not include any of its link features that they are getting pretty good at. i've been using serato for 8 years, but the thought of rekordbox was welcoming to me, and works very well now. i am now spinning most of my cookie cutter weddings on rekordbox for the ultimate in 'pre-DVS feeling' djing. the syncing that occurs on mixers like the djm900 for beat effects is brilliant and highly accurate provided you've let rekordbox anaylze your tracks - so why didnt pioneer include this on the RMX? it doesnt even have MIDI ports for me to send and receive tempo information to a mixer/traktor/ableton/whatever.
i hate to say it, because i did like the unit, but i have to agree with you. with bad quantization, no MIDI/LINK I/O, and my not so fond opinions of EDM, the RMX was a partial waste of money. if it was 500 bucks out the door i would have kept it and turned the thing on 5 times a night for what i liked it for - instead i returned it and upgraded my 909 to a 900nexus, which was far more worth the extra coin.

I've got a love hate relationship with the RMX. Although it can work great for hip hop sets which is mostly what I'd spin. The echo's are nice, and the filters sound great too. I'm keeping it and am very used to it in my setup now. I think as time goes on my skills will develop further with it. It was kind of an impulse and not really necessary. Just getting a 900 would be the better bet.

@TelosHedge,Thanks for the imput, I also rock 2 cdj's and a 909 mixer, thinking about returning the unit and getting the 900 also. Thats the thing I didnt want to become is very predictable when mixing. I Think the remix 1000 is great for a more edm genre which just doesn't apply to me. Thanks for helping me to decide.

corey hold that thought on getting a 900nexus...
i was only borrowing a 900nexus for the weekend. brought it out last night and was fighting with the auto bpm just like with the RMX1000 - it just sucked! i remember using a djm 800 years ago and having no issues like this - i think i know whats going on here...
anyway, i did not have an ethernet switch so i could not connect the 900 up to my cdj's, so im not sure if the quantize effects are supported with serato - they should be as far as i'm concerned. the cdjs get fed bpm information from serato so there should be no reason why they can't send that tempo info to the 900nexus. i have a funny feeling pioneer will not support this.
i went over to the pio forums and posted that question. also did some more research and found out that the DJM900nexus send and return section does not operate post fader! ugh. so much for integrating an EFX or RMX into this mixer.
looks to me like my 909 is still the greatest mixer for me. hopefully pio gets back to me and tells me otherwise.

900 will not read your serato bpm info, it will read it externally. Great mixer in my opinion. I have only really had bpm detection issues with hip hop in the 90-100 bpm range.

Wow I didn't know the S/R on the 900 was not post fader. The are post fader on the Rane mixers. I always adjust the bpm manually on the RMX. I don't like or trust auto anything.

The send & return on the 900 is pre-fader on the channels and post fader when set to the crossfader.
That's kinda weird...

phatbob thats a fact? i could live with that for sure, never bothered to try it that way.
i take back what i said earlier. i've put a little more time and effort into my borrowed 900 and it's been doing its job very well.
i might even buy one after all this. the rmx on the other hand, not so much - unless i can snag a used one for a steal!

@ corey....im a hiphop, r&b, reggae , house dj. Ive been looking at the remix1000 since it came out being that im a bit of a gear whore and even i cant justify the purchase due to our playing style. There are better things to invest in.......return it.
