Video buffer recomended setting for 512mb video card

I have searched and found multiple recommendations regarding this topic... Some are contradictory though.

I have a 2009 unibody MBP with nvidia video card 512mb memory.

Is it just as simple as setting the video buffer at what ever your card has as memory?

video buffer utilizes sytem memory, not video card memory. if you have 4-8gb of ram setting the buffer to 256-512 is good for most users.

the video buffer setting basically tells serato video how much of system memory to use as storage for the currently playing videos.

so if I have 8gb ram + a 750 GB hard drive running on a 13" macbook pro with 256mb video card memory I should be okay (suggesting my music videos are internally stored vs a external drive)
