I get all my gear online at djdeals.com, if I need it now, West End DJ in London...

I LOVE Rock and Soul in nyc... (tell Rube I said he's the man) and Turntablelab.com (except they break my heart when that dope track is sold out)...

Satellite Records in Boston...

The record shops in London are endless... Black Market has the house hotness, Dub Vendor for reggae, Reckless, Rough Trade, Honest John's... Soul and Dance Exchange...

Mr. Bongo (london) is closed but they were my favorite of ALL time...

Been going to Rock & Soul for years, great for new & old vinyl.
Fat Beats is cool, mainly for underground Hip Hop though.
Beat Street is nice, huge store.
However, some of my best finds are at flea markets, thrift shops, etc. (I won't give away my secret digging spots though haha)

Here in San Francisco:

Soundworks, In House, BPM, Zen City, Amoeba, and a few others. I did a listing of the local stores on my (long-overdue-to-be-updated) website a while back.

The stores here are definitely being hurt by the digital download thing. Changing technology always comes with some casualties, and it's making things rough for the small record stores.
artin (DJ D.I.S.) 12:34 AM - 19 December, 2005
lorrence... im prob gna drop by REHAB.... do they have a good selection of battle records? in comparison to Fat Beats?
DJLorrence 7:07 AM - 19 December, 2005
about the same...check there online inventory at www.djcity.com because they give online customers priority over walk-in/physical location customers....so if they don't have a certain disc in there battle record section...just ask them if they have it in the back, and they will 80% of the time have it stashed in the back of the shop.

Hey mark, i heard In House is the bomb diggity no doubt baby, for house music.

I wanted to bump this to ask a quick question. I am headed south tomorrow for a road trip. I will hit San Fran, LA and San Diego. It will be a quick trip, so if I had to hit one hip hop and one house music oriented record store in each town what would you folks suggest.

Obviously Amoeba in San Fran and LA but where else? Also, what clubs go off on Sunday's in San Fran, Monday's in LA and Tuesday's in San Diego?

Thanks in advance for your wisdom...
DJ_Mike_Coquilla 1:51 AM - 26 February, 2006

Audio1 3:46 AM - 9 January, 2007
Mike,
I used to take BART and The 180 way back in the day to shop from Upstairs. They had the illest high energy/freestyle/dance in the mid-90's. Memories!
AtomicDJ 6:22 AM - 9 January, 2007
Upstairs Records, man you took me back. Cutting class and taking the 22 bus to get beats. Always good times there.
DJ_Mike_Coquilla 6:30 AM - 9 January, 2007
i remember they (Fredwreck Nassar) used to make music in this one room upstairs... watched him chop and dub / remix this one song using a dat and a reel to reel... cutting and splicing.

was a long process, but the result was mind boggling
