How to put tracks in order (in a crate)

dj_blueprint 7:19 AM - 27 March, 2008
I want to make a set-list for a recording I'm doing and I don't want to fiddle through my crates searching so I have all tracks ready to go 1-40 in sequence.

I tried dragging them but they won't drag up or down - they will only move to different crates.

Does anyone know how to put tracks in order? (maybe even through iTunes, if possible)

Click on the # column in the crate, then drag them into the desired order.

This did not work. I'm using mac, all it did was make the + (in a green bubble) appear.

Any other advice?

Start a new crate and import the tracks you want into that crate, in the right order.

Use the prepare box

whenever you drag songs into a crate the order that you drag them in is remembered.

You just have to tell the crate to be sorted by "#" instead of w/e yours is sorted by. Just go to the top of the columns and click w/e you want them to be sorted by.

this is such a flaw in the system... I would like a song editor mode that would allow this to be a simpler process, like the drag n drop that exists in the crates section.

all you gotta do is sort it by what you want? im confused why this is hard...
DRAG N DROP TO CRATES IN ORDER.....SORT THEM BY ORDER.... flaw? am i missing something?

It'd make alot more sense if I could do this without making a new crate but I guess since I can't I will go ahead and make a new crate.

its actually sort of nice to have them in crate because you can save them in a FOLDER LIKE "mix crates" then you will have alot of your sets saved.

I think they need to add a "Playlist function" like review except when you play the track it doesn't disappear. This would be nice because you could make a new crate w/ a command and add to it by also using a keyboard shortcut.

Crates do remember Drag and Drop order but also you can move songs up or down in any order you want as long as the # column is selected.

PROBLEM FOUND!

iTUNES PLAYLIST ORDERS CANNOT BE CHANGED IN SERATO. YOU MUST GO INTO ITUNES TO CHANGE ORDER.

iTunes playlist order cannot be changed in Serato. You must go into iTunes to change the order.

You can still use the prepare window, doesn't matter what way they are set in the crates. Just drag each song you want "in order" to the prepare window and you're straight.

It is better if you just make sub-crate from your original. I do this when I dj for certain parties so as not to have to go through the whole crate.
