MP3 Gain Question

djratedrde 2:58 PM - 20 October, 2005
When you are using this program if you get a Y in clip does that mean the level you want the track to be set at was not set or is it telling you that the level you chose was to loud and it caused clipping? If someone can help me with this I would be most apprecaitive.

I don't use MP3 Gain, but I read this on another board.
Quote:
If Any Mp3 file in Mp3gain has a "Y" (yes) under the clipping bar then, Go to the "modify gain" menu, "Apply max no clip gain for album".

If you only want to modify files with clipping and don't care about keeping volume differences between each track on an album you "Apply max no clip gain for each file" instead of "Apply max no clip gain for album".

Hope this helped...

the level you chose was too loud.. However mp3gains, clipping is pretty inaccurate. I normally go for 93db, that setting i find optimal. Its a little bit quieter than vinyl when it comes through the mixer but almost perfect. Coincidently, majority of the stuff i record phono->preamp->cdrw (cdrw set to +-0db), ends up around 92-94 anyway.

Remember clicking does not necessarily mean your soundfile's quality is degraded, esp if you have vinyl recordings which have clicking.

Good Point Nik.

So just because you see yes next to clipping that main only be pops or clicks from you vinyl, not necessarily because you recorded it too loud? Is that correct?

Yes, it could be. It could also be just one sample which is too loud. So you can not always say just because you get a red "Y" that that you must lower the volume.
