CONTROL CD FIX !! for Denons..

frankie c 7:37 AM - 2 October, 2005
I have a VERY simple easy fix for getting serato to work better with Denon cd players..

The track 1 on the control cd, only has .02 sec of tone before track 1 starts. Which (when a track starts audio at the very begining), causes serato to take a split second to lock on..

SOLUTION? putting mabye a full sec or so of tone BEFORE track one starts, to give the interface a smidge more time to LOCK ON to the denon ..meaning, I would like to cue like .04-mabye .06 BEFORE 1 starts, to get it no not sound a lil choppy on some tracks..

THOUGHTS?

What about using the track offset function? It should do exactly the same as you describe, doesnt it?

ive been trying to tinker with the track offset

i cant get it to move "finely" when i try to adjust it it goes from 0 to 1.8
nik39 5:09 PM - 2 October, 2005
Read the "?" help and manual. You can only adjust in full vinyl rotations (to keep stickers at the same position/angle), each rotation equals to 1.8sec, which explains why the first offset is at 1.8seconds.

well that could be a future fix help us cd djs :)

i don't think that matters. you could just set your cue point, no? and regardless of where your start point is, ssl still has to calculate where it is in the song, which will take a fraction of a second...

and yea..what nik39 said too, about the track offset...
DJ_X_Trodinaire 10:15 PM - 2 October, 2005
i do set the cue points but it moves forward when you hit play
so i have to re cue it again

thats what i'm talking bout..

I haven't played with the offset..(i gotta read on that in the manual)..
It just seems to me that a lil more (space), before Track 1 , will make files that start at the very beginning, not sound like they get "cut off" for a split sec..

even when u cue, it still takes just a smidge of time to get serato to "lock" to start on the denon..
I would hate to put more "space" at the beginning of tracks to fix this..

I'm sure it would be very easy to put a half sec of tone before tr 1 to make this happen..

We can solve this in software. We'll just change the zero-point of the CDs to add another 60ms to the current position. We'll put it in the next version.

how long?

The track offset is great , but it only goes in ONE direction..

The software update will pretty much solve this...BUT
I think Rane could look into the denon CD players (2100 2600), and mabye improve the time(and consistency) that serato "locks " to it..

its SO CLOSE.. If Rane played with it they will see..
If they lick this, ALOT (IE TONS) of mobile DJs will switch to Serato......
They usually (now) go out with SMALL setups(ie denons), and if serato gets tighter with the cd players...MANY djs in the mobile biz will do the laptop thing, because the amount of music they need to bring...
marketing this to mainly vinyl jocks is only PART of the potential 4 this..
mobile jocks HATE PC DJ..they want their denon to control..

time to dominate the market rane..
tighten it up!!

mobile jocks havent warmed up to any of these yet..

SSL4Life

i just jacked that from Denon lol

if i were to stick to dual decks for space constraint, i would just use the mp4

but i prefer the visual presence style of the original ssl

I don't completely understand the problem; does setting the track start offset to 1.8 second not solve it?
frankie c 12:17 PM - 31 October, 2005
no..

serato definately does not LOCK to the denon fast enough...CLOSE, but no cigar...AND its not consistent either..

i think it can be fixed in software..

Are you saying Im going to have trouble if I decide to use CD's on a Denon instead of Vinyl for a gig?
skinnyguy 10:02 PM - 24 November, 2005
i use denon s5k's all the time...no probs here. frankie, are we on the same page? are you referring to the buffer of the s5k?
frankie c 5:44 PM - 26 November, 2005
I have a denon 2600....

I guess the denon 3000/5000 are ok because they emulate vinyl..

the "regular" denons are ALMOST THERE...

I still think it can be fixed in software if Rane plays with it a bit..

i believe this was in a thread earlier, that the dual deck type of cd players have a issue with the control cds, especially the denon rackmountable dual decks. I vaguely remember there being an issue with the output on the decks which create a lag tot the SSL box.
frankie c 2:04 PM - 29 November, 2005
rane, any luck on looking into this???
