I am laptop shopping now. I have a macbook now. Looking to upgrade so I can utilize more of the transitions and effects.
Of course I'm looking at MB Pros (waiting until after MacWorld...or whatever its called), but am considering other options too. Wanted to know what other laptops people have had success wih with Video-SL?
Was looking at a Sony Vaio, 2.2 GHz, 2 GB RAM, 358 MB available graphics memory.

that laptop you posted above does not have a good video card (intel x3100). you will want to get a dedicated card like ati or nvidia.

Yeah, the laptop you posted would probably be slightly worse than a macbook and nowhere near the performance of the macbook pro.

It seems like Serato made this with the Macbook Pro in mind.
Mine works flawlessly with all of the effects.
They also have a drawing of a setup that shows a Mac in the Video-SL operators manual (Page 6).
If you have the $$$, get a Macbook Pro. You can always use "Bootcamp" and run your Windows programs (That's what I do).

Cool. Thanks guys. I thought the most important thing with the graphics card was the memory.... I was under the impression that the 358MB graphics memory exceeded my Macbook. Obviously need to study up on that more.

Well.. I stared with a bramd new Acer Travelmate 6292 (12" 2GHz Duo, 2Gb Ram running XP SP2) but the internat video dident work with Video-SL.
So I converted a got me a new MacBook Pro (2.4GHz Duo, 4GB ram running Leopard) and it works perfect, sure Mac is more xpensive, but it match up with Serato, QUALITY !

Forgot this...
There is a big differens between shared memory on graphicscard (like Intel) and a NVIDIA/ATI with it's own 256Mb memory.
Most Sony Vaio have Intel (shared memory) gfx card, but some of the "big one" have NVIDIA® GeForce 6200 and so.
MacBook Pro have a NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT.
My Acer have an Intel gfx card (shared memory) and that don't work with Serato Video.

MBP is the best way to go.
Mine works flawlessly, it's like Video SL was made for it.

I just ordered a Dell e1520 2.2 Duo / 3gig Ram / NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT /WinXp all other software stripped.
I certainly hope to prove that a PC can run as well for nearly half the price.

Kagen... Let me know how it works out. I have a macbook at the moment and it works pretty well but with limited effects. I was looking at the same exact laptop.

Running a MBP/4 gigs of ram. I had a Macbook, there are only 3 more video transitions on the MPB than the MB. Can't seem to get 1.8 to work with Leopard though.

Mine works great in Leopard.

I don't think you can change videocard on any laptop, never herd about that. So easy, nope...

As Grandpa says video card is out. The processor could be upgraded but the scope is probably very limited as the motherboard will only support a limited range of processors. So if you've got a gen 1 MBP with a core duo you wouldn't be able to install a core 2 duo. Also the cost of mobile processors is quite high in retail channels as they aren't particularly common.
