hi i dj on my vci just about every day/night and i always have great sound very level and solid but last night this changed for the worst i seem to getting bad sound kinda distorted some time like a small echoing sound and its also like this in the headphones ive tried re-installing itch and played around with the setting, trim, master ect... the night before it was fine so i really have no idea what up .

the only change i made to itch before i went out to the show was made a new database V2 which after 45mins in the show i stop and replaced the old database but the sound was still bad.

Hey Dj Lashes,

We have been extremely busy here with the new Serato Video upgrades, sorry for the late reply. However please remember we are not here in the weekends at Serato sorry we can't help you till we get into office on Monday.
What sort of setup did this issue occur?
Did it happen at home or in the club?
Have you been able to re-produce this issue since?

Regards
Dave W

It was at a club and when i got home the same thing happened i re-analyzed all my tracks and rescanned my id tag now the sound is ok but the output is lower, i have to turn the master past 3 o,clock to get the sound to a level which i would normally have at 12,

my setting are :
Headroom -3
output stereo
auto gain 93
2ms

this has always been like this i have not made any changes to my settings.

Hey Lashes,

Not sure whats going on there, seems strange that your overall levels would change.. I'll have a look into it.

thanks and if it happens again i will try to record it with my phone to see if that helps get to the problem.
dj lashes 12:27 AM - 23 April, 2012
this Tuesday i will play in the club with my ns6 to see if it the vci or itch with the problem.

Dave W, is there a way to reset my VCI or something like that?
Serato, Support
David Wood 1:19 AM - 23 April, 2012
Not really, firmware updates usually i guess. But no factory reset that I know of.

dj lashes 2:51 AM - 23 April, 2012
what about a way force the latest firmware update just to make sure it installed correct and i dont just mean plug in the vci and run 2.2 install because if it thinks the vci has the latest firmware then its gonna skip past it or not?
Serato, Support
David Wood 3:00 AM - 23 April, 2012
The installer doesn't update the firmware or even read it as far as i know. It does install the drivers however. Obviously in the program itself in the SETUP>Hardware you can check to see if the firmware is up to date as discussed. I haven't heard of firmware not installing correctly, however i'm sure anything is possible.

Don't think there is another way to source the firmware either : help.vestax.co.jp

Let me know how you go.

thanks for the info,
I am trying the anything is possible way!! as i just cant see why the sound would go from great to so bad over night.

let you know if i come across anything or fix it.
dj lashes 5:01 PM - 27 April, 2012
Dave W, before i start any miner thing like did i re-scan, make new data base, try changing the headroom, re installing itch plus 50 other things commonly asked YES i done them all for the last 8hrs i been testing everything i can think of.

so here is what i have come to "100% the auto gain is not working".
*in the setting tick or UN-tick auto gain makes no change to the music level.
*(when auto gain is ticked) setting from 89db to 98db makes no change to the music level.
*the head room is working ok but not matter where the headroom is the above 2 points still do not work.

maybe i have a file in the set up that need to be fixed or its just not working.
i tested this with my NS6 and VCI300 using itch 2.2

let me know what i can try now to see if this is the problem thanks you.

Hey DJ Lashes,

I've tried to re-produce what you've said, no problem for me but just to clarify:
Quote:

When you do make changes you need to check and un-check the 'auto gain' button before the changes will take effect? Did you do this?

When you re-analyzed all your files maybe some of the data was calculated incorrectly, sometimes this can happen if you originally analyzed on a really old copy of ITCH or Scratch Live.

Let me know

I did not know that i needed to check and un-check to make the changes take effect but i did do it anyway as i was testing it as a way to be sure that i check all options but no luck.

so if when i re-analyzed all your files and the data was calculated incorrectly as i did originally analyzed on a really old copy of ITCH what can i do to fix this, and just to let you know i have re-analyzed my music 3 times already in the last week still the same.

So to clarify are you saying that the auto gain makes no difference to your VCI-300 and also your NS6? Or is it just your VCI-300?

I'd go to the archives page and download the version of ITCH you had and then re-analyzed them again on that. You can rename you current Version of ITCH to ITCH 2.2 so you can run both versions. Following?

Here's the link to the archive: serato.com

I'll look at these files and get back to you and see if they work for me.

I can re-produce this issue with these files, where are you getting these files from? Are you encoding them yourself? Any details you can give me about these files?

Regards
Dave W
dj lashes 5:52 AM - 30 April, 2012
1st that great that you can re-produce this now i know my ears are working lol
as for the files my music comes from MANY online places, friends, djs, producers, ect.. for the last 5-6 years...
i never had this issue before untill (april 13th 2012) when i re-analyzed using 2.2 i also re-analyzed with 1.5 up to 2.1 with no problems till now 2.2 i used to have dj ect.. come to me and talk how good the output of itch is when i play.
and i do not do any encoding.
dj lashes 6:30 AM - 30 April, 2012
i just got it to work again i re-analyzed a few tracks using 2.1 and now the same few tracks are working ok in 2.1 and 2.2 with the auto gain seems like am going to have to do them all in 2.1
dj lashes 6:37 AM - 30 April, 2012
ok and now even re-analyzing with 2.2 seem to have started to work this is great let me do all my tracks with 2.2 again and see how it goes i hope i dont need to do 3 songs at a time lol
dj lashes 5:38 PM - 30 April, 2012
HELLLLLLLLLL NOOOOOOOOOOOO
after staying up till 11am re-analyzing about 1000 song at a time in total about 8000 tracks they work fine but after closing itch and re-opening itch the auto gain dont work again this is really shit sorry to say.

ps. my files are (read & write) not locked in any way before you ask me.
dj lashes 7:36 PM - 30 April, 2012
here is what am thinking now its seems that the id3 tag maybe the problem after i re-analyzed with itch 2.2 for the 1st time back at the start of april.
I used this:
serato.com
on a few songs now them songs are working with the auto gain fine so far even after re starting itch but now i will have a new problem if i use this option to strip the id3 tag i lose all my grids, cues ect... which you must know how long that takes to setup with so much songs is there any way to repair the Id3 tag without losing my grids and cues.... or remove the analyzed data which itch added but leave the bpm and cue or something like this..
dj lashes 9:48 PM - 30 April, 2012
Dave W, i got the problem in the bag finally.
If you re-analyze with "set auto bpm" (un-checked) then restart itch the "use auto gain" will not work with the songs analyzed with "set auto bpm" (un-checked).

can you test this if its the same bug for you if yes send me a check or cash for such a great bug find lolololol.

work around: analyze with "set auto bpm" (checked) but then make sure you got time on your hands to fix back your beat grids and bpm if itch gets it wrong.

Hey Dj Lashes,

I've re-produced this and it looks like a bug. I've logged it with our CRT team and we will hopefully able to fix this in a future release. Well done, I know you worked hard to figure out what was going on. And we now have a workaround thanks to you too.
