The paint job is SICK! Led lights installed so platter glows underneath at night. Dicers and Serato Sl3 built into turntables and 909, wow!

how do you know the SL3 is built into that 909? I would pay someone to mod my 909 to have the SL3 inside of it.

WOW!!! I just said i wanted that on another thread. A pioneer mixer with a Serato box inside.
Makes me want to open up a DJM900 and a SL2 (or 4 if i could fit it) and see if i can get it inside of that...

Ive already sent them a email I wan to get mine modded. I even asked if they could make the faders midi as well..prolly asking to much on that second one but a modded 909 with the SL3 inside would pretty much put the 57 to shame

I never played on a 909. Heard lots of good things about it. makes me wonder why pioneer stopped making them.
I would much prefer a 4ch mixer with serato built in But i really dont like the 68. I wonder if an DJM 900 or 2000 will have enough room for a Serato box inside.. I would prefer a SL4 to go inside but sl2 or sl3 would be fine also. Just not a sl1 cause I really dont like the sound of them.

ok here is the skinny I just talked to Big Mike over at pimp my turntables. They want 1099.00 for the pioneer mod.....guess what they will only do it with a brand new SL box that they purchase so the 1099 is included in the cost.
SL3= 700.00
labor = 399
I offered him $600 for the mod which equals 200.00 more in profite unless they have a bunch of busted serato box that they are picking apart to make this mod which then they are making a 1099 off the deal.
I think the real deal is that they want to keep it exclusive to Jazzy only. At this point Im like whateve its hot its dope but Im not burning money just eliminate 2 rca cables in the set up

I want to "pimp" my 1200s
I know EXACTLY why their website is down and needs a password to see it. In Dec, I caught them revamping their website as an exact copy of 12inchSkinz. I mean they copied EVERYTHING verbatim down to the product descriptions. I was amazed that they were even trying to copy the holographic Eric Orr labels we manufacture as their own. Speaking of lazy, over half the images still had the 12inchSkinz logo on them. The first thing I did was to take screen captures of their entire site for legal purposes. Proof can be seen here: (I have over a 100 of these and yes this is a real screen capture) templates.12inchskinz.com and here is what they really copied www.12inchskinz.com
They had just contacted me a few months back to do some more skinz for them and this is what they do. The very next day after seeing their new site, I had called em up and raised hell on the phone and then a couple days later the site is what you find now. Im just going to assume the blank 909 template used to make Jazzy's skin came right off our website, as seen here: www.12inchskinz.com.
As a matter of fact, last week I found a pic of our 57 template that they had printed out right on their FACEBOOK. I once again made a phone call and the pic is now down as I just checked. I apologize if I made this thread a bit "sour" but imma call em out.

On the surface the tables look quality, but it is obvious other designs are being ripped straight from the 12InchSkinz site. I have been a 12InchSkinz client for quite some time, and I hate to see their hard work be blatantly ripped off. I know it can't be easy to put that many man hours into making sure a skin is PERFECT ( their attention to detail is unreal), just to have it snapped right from under you.
I actually caught the copycat site the first time they put it up. I was interested in their mods since that was something 12IS didnt do. Literally EVERYTHING had been copied (even the Eric Orr labels as mentioned above). I mean come on people. At least TRY.
Bottom line is this - this is a free market, but do your own freaking work. Freeloaders absolutely piss me off.

Thanks for your support!!!!
Yes, the turntable work they did for Jazzy is on POINT and I honestly love it. I even used to promote PMTT as we dont have the time do the kind of work that they do, saying that, until they ditch they the TURD they hired that is jacking all of our content, I will have NO respect. To make this clear, we are in NO WAY taking credit for anything as Im only assuming that 909 template (the knob and fader graphics overlay specifically) is ours......as they have given me good reason to believe so. You wanna copy our work, copy it but like I said, i will call you out. If you want to make skins, make skins but do your own work. Its like 12inchSkinz keeps getting sampled but in a lo-fi SP-1200. In the end, quality will prevail .

I've been a long time supporter of 12inchskinz (even have stuff from them that I can't show in public) and they have never let me down. PURE QUALITY and crazy attention to detail. When you buy a skin from them you know that they are gonna fit perfectly, no awkward angles, no shortened or "off edges", no peeling, no misspelled graphics, no ink bleed, they are not gonna harm your gear or cause sticky residue, etc. they fit perfect each time, everytime. these guys have thought of everything. I've gotten a little glimpse into what it takes to makes these (pass the tweezers! - inside joke) and it takes an enormous amount of time, preparation, execution and dedication. So yeah....kinda sucks that someone else would blatantly rip this off. Nice that they are paying dues to a legend in Jazzy Jeff...but don't sour it by plagerizing the work.

I think the paint job, logos, etc. were done well. BUT... I saw an Instagram that was a very close up pic of the Dicers that were built-in to the M5G's and all I have to say is HORRIBLE WORK! The turntable face was not smooth at all. It looked like bondo (car body filler) was globbed on top and not sanded down flush with the surface of the turntable and the Dicer holes cut out after. Now, I'm not saying what they did was an easy task. But when you have a paying customer, make it perfect. Forget that the customer is Jazzy Jeff. If I ordered them and they handed me what I (which i've been trying to find again to post a link to. I think it was taken down) I would have told them to do it over.
Off topic... I thought Jeff was on the 62 now.

You seem "sour" in just about every thread that involves work that Pimp My Turntables does...LOL
I see what you do and I respect your hustle, especially since you've been doing it for a while, but what they do is similar but different. I see alot of faceplates on your site, but with PMTT I actually see that they disassemble the 1200s and paint the original body and the platter plus do the led lights under the platter.

It seems to me that they took what u did and expanded on it. The same way someone took the original scratch and expanded on it. But that's just my opinion. I haven't seen the photo of the 909 that you speak of so I can't really comment about that. And even if they did use something of yours and left the label on it, why be mad? That's free advertising for u and in some ways a sign of respect for your work. You should be more mad if they used your exact work and took your label off.

Dynamite, you're missing the point. 12inch said PMTT stole his entire website design and a lot of the content too. That's like Pepsi using the Coca Cola font. Its copyright infringement. Could even be compared to a DJ selling a HD full of music....
Stealing does not mean free marketing.
Scratching is one thing, but if you gonna release something, you better clear the original sample, or you'll find yourself in the deep end...

i agree that if you are going to be doing these kinds of mods for customers shit better be perfect.
the USB hole should've been flushed mounted and drilled from the inside with masking tape (to prevent burring). even if flush mounting was impossible, you could've used fiberglass resin & bondo to smooth it out.
also the mixer and tables should've been painted so that the lines are perfectly straight. could've used a laser, one of those string+chalk thingy's or a pre-made negative template.
that's how i would've done it. it is still a good design tho. serato box inside the mixer, bondo'ing dicers to the turntable...genius.

Holy Shiz. Did you honestly just say it was obvious 12InchSkinz does half the work you do? Nah bruh, they actually do at least double - cause somebody has to make your designs for you.
Stop jacking other people's hard work/intellectual property and calling it your own.

WOW.............
I didnt think it was going to get this far...LOL. Today PMTT contacted me today and apologized for any misunderstanding or any wrong doing on their end. Yes, they removed my images from site a while back but unfortunately the image of our 57 template on their facebook a week ago is what ultimately inflamed this situation once again as why I had to post on this thread. Not sure whos idea that was but im sure it wont happen in the future.
IF in any defense for PMTT for some the comments on the 909, its a prototype mixer and FAR from perfect so who cares if its a lil rough around the edges.

a) Im pretty sure the 57 was in the works already
b) if not - Im definitely not in a position to develop a mixer
c) I dont think there is anything proprietary about the concept
Now - there are some things that I have developed, that might have been worthy, but these things end up on the market before I could actually take them anyplace.
I do at the moment have a couple ideas - I think one is patentable If there is not a patent already (something Rane might be interested in) - I think there probably already is a patent tho because its simple, just not brought to the market yet.
And I have another concept, a social media type shit that I think could win - too bad Im not good at coding and dont have a partner. I am in the process of sketching that one up and see if I can get it built.
Anyway - the ideas I get would work good if I worked for one of these companies already - otherwise they arnt patentable - or Im not in a position to develop them. so yeah - would be nice

A bit of insecurity there... If you tried to bring to a company's attention and it was rejected that's one thing, but if you didn't try to market it - that's different..
Just don't' post it up on the boards for bragging rights cuz if it's good someone will make money off it..
Many tech startups are trying to be the next facebook...But you'll need more than just the website, the back-end also...

like I said - I dont think there is anything proprietary about the 57 concept in what I did with it. If I brought it to Rane - at that time they probably would have said - yeah we are already building one and always planned too - and it would have been the truth.
If they had no plans for it, I dont see what the actual patentable technology would be. I dont see how I could own the concept the way I did it. It was more of a 'feature suggestion' - might have already been suggestion - I just chose to make it instead of suggest it.
Rane should offer me a position at least as a beta hardware tester if not put me on the development team. or at least run shit by me - yes my ideas are that fucking good- but I dont have the scholastic qualifications for a job, and Im not famous enough. yes I read their job postings from time to time.
And yes, I have brought ideas to companies - they actually dont really like unsolicited ideas for legal reasons. They higher people to come up with shit - there is no reason to sign an NDA with me.
Its not insecurity - its just how it is.
Just don't' post it up on the boards for bragging rights cuz if it's good someone will make money off it..
yes - I dont post everything - If I think its actually proprietary, or *I* can do something with it I dont post it. Ive got lots of shit filed. And I use some shits too.
I knew the only thing I could get out of the 56+SL modification was bragging rights. Youtube wasnt in effect back then - guess I should make a video.
If Im wrong and I could have done something more with it let me know - all Rane said is it was cool - no offers to join the team.
Serato, Ive had a different relationship with - and thats all I will say.
Many tech startups are trying to be the next facebook...But you'll need more than just the website, the back-end also...
yeah I know, I could build an html website back in 2000, thats my skill level. I might approach a development company, I came close to doing that with an iPad app, actually a couple but then they hit the market...
Anyway all the elements of my idea exist, just not brought into one format, and in the excellent way I plan on it.

yes, I know. I scoped one out locally but... I might bring them something else first.
If I moved in those type circles, I would def put together a team.
Funding is less dangerous to come up with and I got people with the loot - Im not sure about how much needed and all that - and they will want to see some shit semi operational. I might look for at least the promis of some capital before moving.
Thing is I dont care about, and dont want to do any business shit - I just want to formulate shit.

AKIEM - it seems to me like you're shuttin yourself down before you even try to approach companies with your ideas. I say just go for it. The worst that could happen is that they say we already have that in development. It's kinda like being afraid to approach the hot model chick because you think she's gonna say no so you don't even bother... NO FEAR!!
AKIEM

yes I hear what you are saying - but trust I do approach companies - just not in every case. And its been my experience that they are just not receptive to receiving unsolicited ideas unless there is a patent or whatever.
And like I said - Ive got a file of ideas that I am not sharing until a can develop them, take advantage and or approach a company correctly.
its harder then it seems
Look at my avatar, that was like the second software idea I came up with (the first was center scroll in the library) and I still have to explain it to every new generation of developer. When they finally implement it its going to be on some duh why wasnt this in there from day one?
Tell you one thing, I came very close to cutting a deal to press my own version of the serato vinyl, even had plates cut and shit - yes before the first red vinyl - all the sudden they couldnt let me do it. <hope Im legal discussing that)

yeah akiem, nice job on the 56sl1 and the built in dicer style buttons on the turntable too.
the sl3 doesn't play vinyl without a power source (usb or ac)...
and it doesn't have dedicated "thru" outs (software switch).
so i dunno how that guy did the 900.
would/could you re-purpose the line/phono switches to switch the incoming turntable signal's destination between the sl3 and the empath's phono preamp?
but then i guess that you would lose the line input... so you would still need to power the sl3 somehow in order to use cds or whatnot.
man i'd love to have empathSl3

Id be willing to pay more than the price of a 62 yes. The price structure needs to reflect the feature set.
A mod on a previous thread says the costs to manufacture would place it on the SAME price structure as the 68

well you wouldn't need the thru because you arnt breaking the phono signal. so the only time the box needs power is when using ssl.
(ive only done it with an sl1)
The way mine works is:
phono=phono
line=line/ssl
Its much simpler then it sounds, and you can try the signal path outside the mixer before you remove the pcb and place it inside the mixer
the hardest part is removing the rca plugs
and you could probably leave the rca plugs in making it easier to reverse
If anyone wants one done, I have the time, and will do even better then my og which actually still works
whats funny is I can hardly set up an SL box at a show I am so used to my 57 and my 56 before it.

I cant see why there would be a problem for most mixers, it should really only be a mater of space for mounting and location of the USB.
If I could do mine over I would probably make a port instead of using the mic port.
The one issue there is using the line (cdjs) while SSL is plugged in. Its the same as trying to plug an SL box and a CDJ on the same channel with a Y cable.

It's not that hard to do. The only issue is the thru because on the sl3 you need to power it and select the option "IN" the software. If it had built in thru like the SL1 or it hard a hardware switch then it would not be a problem.

What would be cool and new would be to replace the faders on the 909 (all 3 of them) and install innofaders. Some how create an Midi interface and be able to midi map the innofaders to any software you want. Add some midi buttons on the side. and there you go.

you dont need the thru because you dont break the phono signal
but you will need a switch if you want to use SSL with CDJ, left that off mine

Just looked up " how to make your own midi controller " and it looked amazingly easy. Just get the midi interface and hook up the faders to it and that's it. It's a matter of makin it fit. If they can fit a sl3 in there, you can fit a smaller midi interface in the mixer.

It will be harder then it sounds.
You are talking about the faders working as they intended on the 900 + do midi, or instead do midi?
You want the faders to do midi AND audio, its probably going to be pretty complicated.
Yes if all you want them to do is midi then that could work.
take a look at this controller I built
serato.com
my original plan was for rotaries, I learned you need the right kind of midi board which will accept faders and rotaries...
this would have been dope, but the korg nanos dropped

I've been reading this post and checking out the video/photos of mods. I'm an contracted AV/PC Tech with degree in Electronics and over 10yrs of computer experience. I've been doing mobile electronic mods (car stereo, video, speaker boxes, solar panels, etc) but never really considered mods to my DJ equipment beside adding LEDs under the platter, changing the popup light to LED, and templates designs for 1200s. Here's what I'm thinking about doing and some ideas that I haven't seen that others can add to current mods or upcoming mod ideas.
I have 2 Vestax mixers... a PMC-05 and PMC-07. I've been thinking about modding an SSL device into my PMC07 (my cheaper mixer). Right now I have an SL1 but checking around for either a cheap used SL1 or SL2. Looking at the back of the PMC07 for ideas where to put any additional ports (USB), power LED, mic gain knob, and 9v input) I see options but not sure without "looking under the hood" to see how much space would be available and also looking inside the SSL device as well.
Here's a great addition to add if you getting your mixer mod......an internal USB hub that will provide additional USB ports for you to add more USB devices like MIDI controller...like Dicers, APC40, Kontrol X1, and other devices that you would have to run to an external USB hub or to you laptop. Now this would be greatly appreciated for those that have MacBook Pros that only have 2 USB ports. If you were to connect all your MIDI devices to your mixer and then one cable from your mixer to you laptop.
I see that some newer equipment now are coming out with connection for more USB device to be connected instead of routing tons of cables to your computer or laptop.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT....

@DJ-Freestyle Thanks..that helps a lot with space requirements inside my mixer. I haven't decide on what I really want to do yet until i get both covers removed and see what I have to work with but the USB hub is definitely an option i will add. Right now Im searching around for an spare SSL box I can disassemble on Craigslist.....got an reply for an SL3 for $350 but still more than I would want to spend when I got the PMC07 for only $100 in mint condition.

installing a SL box in any mixer is easy once there is enough room its just soldering a few points,
i havent seen anyone mention soldering the booth out (if you use it a lot might not be the best option) or record out (if your mixer has it) or piggy back the master out to the aux channel on the SL3 so that you can have internal recording in serato
