Does this happen when importing audio or video files?
DJ RAMY HOUSTON 6:55 PM - 2 April, 2012
Hi Zack, It happened during importing audio files.
I reverted back to using version 2.2. It's the latest version that is stable.
Thnx in advance!

Do you have any video files in your library?
Does this happen when importing just one audio file?
DJ RAMY HOUSTON 9:12 PM - 2 April, 2012
there were only 4 videos in the library which i removed. my hard drive that contains all my video files is not currently attached. i attempted to add just a single audio file and it crashed again. i will attach the report.

Ok.. I'm going to have The Serato support team have a look at your crash report.
Hold tight.
DJ RAMY HOUSTON 10:34 PM - 2 April, 2012
FYI...I created a new crate to copy all the files as a backup. Maybe to try and rebuild the database V2 file but as soon as I try to rename the new crate Serato crashes as well. I attempted this twice and it crashed both times. Just wanted to let you know if this helps in any way. If you want that crash report I can do it again and post.

Hi DJ RAMY HOUSTON,

Has this always happened for you, or have you only just recently started using Scratch Live?

Can you try this:

1. Close all programs
2. Go to your computers default music folder
3. Rename the _Serato_ folder to "old_Serato_"
4. Now reopen Scratch Live and try to import ONE file.

What happens? If it is successful, try importing 10 files? What happens then?
DJ RAMY HOUSTON 5:21 AM - 3 April, 2012
I have been using Scratch Live since 2009. Never had an issue until I started using 2.0. I believe. I rebuilt my library from scratch a few months ago because my database v2 became corrupt a few times so I figured tha starting from scratch would work. After that SL 2.2 was stable. I made backups of my serato folders and tried 2.4.1. This is when the current problems occurred.

I renamed the Serato folder....
I started serato 2.4.1 and my crates showed up but no smart lists. Imported 1 track successfully (took a long time), I tried 10 files and that worked...I also added a folder and that worked too.

What do u think happened?

Sounds like something in the serato data folder was causing this issue.

All your crates show up? Wait, are you using itunes within Scratch Live?

If you want your smart crates back, you will have to the retrieve the files from your "old_serato_" folder. They will be the files inside the folder "SmartCrates"

I would recommend moving the files inside this folder over to the new SmartCrates folder into your new _Serato_ folder, rather than just moving the whole folder over.
Then re-test to make sure the problem hasn't come back. There is a possibility one of the SmartCrate files is the perp.

How many Smart Crates do you have roughly?
DJ RAMY HOUSTON 4:41 PM - 4 April, 2012
I'm not using the "Read Itunes Library" anymore. A while back Zach S from Rane helped me with v2 Database corruption issues so I just went to creating all my folders and smart creates in Serato. I have about 56 Smart Crates.

Martin C ...you are CORRECT about my smart crates causing the issue. I put the smart crates back from the old serato folder and adding any file crashed it. I then removed them and I was able to add files again.

Is there anything special that I need to look for to find which crate is causing the issue?

It's nice to know what was crashing Serato :-)
DJ RAMY HOUSTON 5:20 AM - 6 April, 2012
Martin C, I just started creating new smartcrates since everything was working fine again.
I got about a third of the way through closed Serato. I reopened Serato and the crates I created were there. I tried to add just 1 mp3 track and it crashed again.
It crashed in thread 2 just like before.

How can just using smartcrates crash Serato. I really do need this function in order to organize my files properly since I am NOT using the "read Itunes folder option"

Thanks again...if you need a new crash report just let me know.

here is a crash report just in case. thnx

Thanks. Perhaps you are reaching some sort of "smart crate limit" where your library becomes unstable when you have a certain amount.

If you originally had 56 smart crates, and you had started rebuilding them from scratch again, how many smart crates did you get up to before the crash started happening again? Perhaps if you remove a certain amount, the crash stops happening again? It would be interesting to know if you are hitting some sort of limit, we might be able to pin point the problem then.
DJ RAMY HOUSTON 6:17 AM - 11 April, 2012
I think I figured out the problem Martin. It's the actual size of the total tracks in the smartcrate that are causing it to crash. I found 1 that was really large and after removing it Serato stopped crashing. I did some testing and I can crash it when I want by making a smartcrate too large. I am still playing around with my files and will let you know if any issues arise.

Martin C 7:21 AM - 12 April, 2012
Ok thanks man, thats really useful information, definitely keep me in the loop with your progress!

Do you have any idea roughly how many files you would have had in the smart crate that was causing the issue? I will attempt to make a smart crate of the same size to see if it causes problems for me too.
DJ RAMY HOUSTON 1:06 AM - 13 April, 2012
I'm very happy to help out just in case any other Serato users out there may have the same issue. If you can duplicate the issue then you may be able to help others.

I have a large library 1.2 tb with a 1.5 tb hd. Videos are on a separate hd with firewire.
I created a smart crate that had 200 gb of tracks in it. That's about 17% of my library.
I added a folder and it thought for about 20 seconds and crashes. Crazy thing is that when I reopen Serato that new smart crate that I created is gone.

Let me know if it happens to you.
DJ RAMY HOUSTON 1:42 AM - 13 April, 2012
On another note:

If this is a glitch, then I have a feeling that the reason problems arise when the "read Itunes folder" is checked is because some itunes smart crates are too large. Just a thought...
Serato, Support
Martin C 12:09 AM - 16 April, 2012
So this smart crate was purely just Audio tracks right? No videos?

If you have a smart crate full of 200gb of videos do you still have the same problem?

Are you able to tell me the AMOUNT of files in the smart crate rather than the data size?

If you un tick read iTunes, does the big smart crate work ok?
DJ RAMY HOUSTON 8:49 PM - 16 April, 2012
I am NOT using the read ITunes function because of issues I have previously had.

I just created the smart crate to make sure it still crashes with the large smart crate.

Only audio files were in the smart crate. There were 21,167 audio files in the smart crate when Serato starts crashing when I attempt to add an audio file.

I don't have the videos in a smart crate because I am trying to avoid issues.

I can make it work without large smart crates.

Martin C,

Just helping out Ramy Houston.

I have a crate with 50,000+ songs (mp3 id3 tag 2.3) that I created and my machine hasn't crashed (Running 2.4).
Serato, Support
Martin C 4:06 AM - 19 April, 2012
Ok let me try that again with with the amount of files you had in the smart crate. Thanks for the information you have provided.

Victor_M, was your crate a normal crate, or smart crate also?
victor_M 11:41 AM - 19 April, 2012
Normal crates.

Smart Crates don't really tickle my fancy. I've actually turned that option off in 2.4
DJ RAMY HOUSTON 4:48 PM - 19 April, 2012
Hi Victor, thanks for your input.

It's the smart crates that are causing the crash. I have large crates with no issue.

I'm just trying to help Martin figure out if there are any limitations with smart crates that are affecting some machines to crash.
DJ RAMY HOUSTON 1:58 AM - 20 April, 2012
I mean Serato to crash.

Martin C 4:34 AM - 26 April, 2012
Hey DJ RAMY HOUSTON,

I am still in the process of gather enough files to test this out ( I only have about 5600 files myself) but when I do have enough I will give it a good testing.

I had a developer look at your crash report and he said that it appears were running out of memory to have that amount of files in a smart crate. Do you know your complete system specs, particularly, how much ram you have?
DJ RAMY HOUSTON 4:56 AM - 26 April, 2012
17" MB Pro
2.8 ghz intel core 2 duo.
8mb of 1067 Mhz DDR3 RAM.

No worries. I have organized my files to make it work.

I just hope that maybe this will help you help others.

Martin C 5:56 AM - 27 April, 2012
Hey man,

I assume you mean 8GB of RAM not 8MB :)

Finally got a smart crate with 22689 files in it. I have 4GB RAM, and I can't continue to add large folders to my library without any issues.

Im not sure I will be able to recreate this unfortunately, and Im not sure if there is actually any limit as such, but there must be something else in your library causing this issue for some reason.
