I just Bought a Brand new RANE SL2.
connected it to my computer first thing.
installed the latest scratch live 2.3.3. restarted my PC.
after restart when i open scratch live it says Rane Hardware Disconnected. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling several times. but in vain.
then i discovered that there is a different SL version 2.2.2 for SL2 and SL4. uninstalled 2.3.3 and installed 2.2.2 (for sl2 and sl4). still didnt work!!!
i tried running C:\Program Files\Serato\driver_updater.bat
it said:
Looking for SL 2 device...
Not Connected
No Device drivers were installed.
Press any key to continue . . .
please tell me what to do.

I think i found the Ultimate solution for this problem once and for all when people try to install scratch live with Rane SL2 on Windows 7 (32-Bit)
Step 1: make sure u have not installed scratch live in ur computer. if installed uninstall completely.
Step 2: Connect your SL 2 Box to your computer before doing anything.
Step 3: download serato Scratch live 2.2.2 (for SL 2 and SL 4) and install it. when it asks to reboot, reboot your computer.
Step 4: After the Reboot, Dont open live yet!
Step 5: Go to your Scratch Live Installation Directory (C:\Program Files\Serato\). In that open The 'Drivers' folder.
Step 6: there you will see a file named driver_updater32.exe . Right Click on the file, click Properties, click on the compatibility tab, below there tick the box that says 'run this program in compatibility mode for, and finally in the dropdown list below select 'Windows XP Service Pack 3'.
Step 7: Click OK.
Step 8: now click on the file driver_updater32.exe
step 9: it will Detect the Rane SL 2 and start installing the drivers one by one including the ASIO driver.
(NOTE: You will get warnings asking if you want to install the drivers. Here you need to select 'Install Drivers Anyway' option.)
Step 10: If it asks to reboot, reboot your PC.
Step 11: After Reboot, Open Serato Scratch Live, BINGO! You will see that the 'hardware disconnected' message no longer appears and now you can see both the decks.
You are good to Go!

Thanks for the steps.
Most of the time all you would need to do is make sure the Rane device is plugged in prior to installing the program.
If that doesn't work a user may need to turn off the UAC controls and try reinstalling SSL.
1. Shut down any open programs.
2. Click on the Start menu in the lower left corner of your desktop.
3. Click on the Search field.
4. Type in "UAC".
5. Click on the one thing that pops up.
6. Move the slider down to never and press 'apply'.
Now restart your computer to make the changes take affect.
I'm happy to hear you got it working:)

yatinkud,
Any other suggestions because I have tried what you suggested and I can't get it to work and I also have tried what Zach S suggested and I can't get that to work either.

I can't get my hardware to connect. I just purchased SL2 and got it in the mail.
Initially I tried to load hardware and software exactly as the manual describes. I connect the hardware and didn't let the computer load the drivers. I then downloaded 2.3.3 and installed it but it did not recognize the hardware.
I deleted the software from my computer:
I then followed the instructions below and it did not work for me. After I tried the instructions below.
Try turning off the UAC controls and reinstalling 2.3.3 with your SL2 plugged in.
THIS DID NOT WORK FOR ME EITHER.
I then deleted the software again and reinstalled everything with no usbs connected except the hardware. This did not work.
I deleted everything again and tried what you suggested above and that did not work. I then deleted software again and tried what yatinkud suggested and that did not work.
I deleted software again and then changed usb ports and tried all of the above again and still nothing.
Below are my computer specs. The only difference is that I am running in 32 Bit and I am using 6.0 GB Ram.

Have you tried unplugging EVERY other USB device prior to installing SSL with your SL2 plugged in?
Make sure you try opening up SSL prior to plugging any other USB devices in.

I had a similar issue with my SL1 and win 7.
The SSL software ( SSL2.5 as of most recently, but I had this issue with other versions as well) just couldn't see the Rane box. It made no difference when I would connect it to a different usb port.
The solution I found to work for me ( and hopefully for you guys as well) is as follows:
1. Disconnect all other usb devices connected to the laptop ( or pc) .
2. Connect the Rane box ( you will most probably get a message that the hardware was not recognized, dont sweat it)
3. Open 'Device Manager' ( Start-->Control Panel-->Device Manager) . The Rane box will show up there as an 'unrecognized hardware' with a question mark on it.
4. Double Click on the unrecognized device. Click Update Driver. Click Browse My Computer for the driver. Then Navigate to wherever your SSL software is installed. In my case and by default it is in "C:\Program Files (x86)\Serato\Drivers\Windows7-64bit\SL1".
5. Click "OK" and You should get a message that the driver was successfully installed.
6. Let me know if this helps lol
On different computers the path to the SSL might be different, but the basic thing is to tell the stupid windows where the driver is. Let me know if you need additional instructions or if you have a different system than mine ( Dell Inspiron , Win 7 -64 bit, SSL 2.5, Ranse SL1)
I've encountered this issue a few times already and for whatever reasons didn't really do the most obvious. Oh yeah, I was thinking my USBs just suck.
Anyway. Since I've searched in the past for solution to this problem and didn't see a real solution anywhere online, I thought I'll just type that in today. Eventhough the thread is fairly old, I thought at least the Serato people might read this and keep it in mind in case others have the same experience as us. I hope that helps someone.
PS: Serato rocks!

It is kind of unbelievable how companies like yours
- THAT DEVELOPS SOFTWARE THAT ROCKS!!! - (And I mean it)
are unable to get a grip on the process of installation on a Microsoft PC. And on top of that are unable to get the uninstall to work. No search and destroy. Just standard remove.
With the consequence of the impossibility to really start again. I love your software but I HATE Installing it! because of just that.
Why so many promising options without the effort to make the complex routing of drivers and hardware either dummy proof or with a manual that explains exactly how to do this over and over again flawlessly? Because you can't.
Two years, so many hard working costumers to provide you with information and still I can't get SSL to work on a 'fresh' Windows installation because I first installed the latest SL2 driver. Not a stupid way of thinking for an IT guy. And no warnings what so ever.
No need to reply to this message.....just read it and weep. It's tragic, it's sad.
Can't wait to get everything up and running, no clue how many hours it will take me to figure out what you lacked to figure out. And repeat it, so that I know what you will not know. So sorry to be the messenger. If you feel sad or angry after reading this, sad would be the more natural response for a 'representative': You should!
