Hi,
I recently bought this Ergo second hand from Ebay. I'm sure that the unit itself is functionally sound yet it does not work within the Serato Intro software suite, neither does it work with virtual DJ LE fully? The controller lights up when turned on and is fine. When I launch the Serato software however, I see a 'Hardware Disconnected' message with a yellow caution triangle, after which, for a fleeting moment the virtual decks appear and then disappear back to the previous state 'Hardware Disconnected'. It's extremely frustrating because the software does recognise the unit in some respects i.e. the mixer's large central selecter knob works (and is able to select tunes and load them) and the cue and play buttons respond? However, the sound does not output from the master RCA but is produced instead through the laptop speakers? I'm very confused about all this as I'm sure it's a software/config issue involving my soundcard set up and or drivers for serato or the ergo!? Can you help? What might the most basic of fixes be?
Thanks ,
Mark

Hey Markie Mark,
Let's try a few things to start with. Your Ergo, is it connect through a USB Hub or is it connected directly to your PC.
Have you tried a new USB Cable?
Also make sure that your Ergo is not set as the default sound card device.
Go to: Task bar, sound icon, make sure the sound device is set to your computers sound card and not the Ergo.
Let's look at these things first and then see how we go.

Dave,
Cheers for the response! Firstly I have two USB cables, both of which I have tried. One was used with a printer and the other came with the unit. Should I try another?
The Ergo is connected directly to the computer straight into one of the USB ports.
Regarding the sound icon, as I'm running windows vista, do you mean you want me to launch the volume mixer? If I open the volume mixer, I see that I'm running sound through the speakers on the laptop which are the default sound card setting.
When I plug the ERGO, the laptop recognises it installs the drivers however, it establishes the connection between itself and the ERGO as a line (cable)? You can see this from the attached file (I've taken a screen shot).
The laptop is choosing to route the sound through itself instead of the ERGO and out the RCA to the amp? This is because it's not recognising or allowing full functionality from the ERGO's sound card and is overwriting that with it's own sound card settings. How do I get serato or my laptop to recognise the ERGO as an audio controller!? Surely it has something to do with drivers or sound card selection? Once we get the computer to do this I think we'll have cracked it?
Cheers for your help Dave.

After playing around for a while I've managed to get sound to play through my speakers from the ERGO through its RCA out. I did this by selecting the ERGO 'line connection' as the default audio device in the sound settings in control panel. I'm still lacking any control what so ever for the channel faders, cross faders or any of the EQ/gain. Basically, in the mixer plane the only thing that works is the browse selector knob and the load track button for each channel. How frustrating! Ugh :(

Hey Mark,
O.k I just wanted to see whether or not you could use your Ergo to get sound out of (Basic see if the output worked). The Ergo and Dj Intro work together. Your computer SHOULD be set to the default audio device, not Ergo.FYI
You probably need to download the latest firmware update for Ergo as well.

Dave,
Thanks for your time once again. I did manage to get sound from the RCA, like I said when fiddling with sound card settings. It's obvious that my computer, serato &the controller are not working together and I don't know why!? I have downloaded the latest firmware update for the ERGO before now, and I've reinstalled everything several times, but to no effect. I know that the unit works fully because I've tested it on an ASUS laptop and everything works fine! (apart from CPU overloading and no pulse control on the channel faders). This has been a serious problem for some of us so why am I unable to get it sorted!? After trying absolutely everything what options do I have left?! I'm on the verge of getting rid of this thing!

Hey Markie,
If it works fine on another computer it doesn't sound like an issue with the controller as you said.
There maybe a conflict between drivers running on your computer. Do you have any other audio devices running or installed?

Hey Mark,
What about software, any other Audio based software installed on your computer?
Also USB devices like wireless mouse/keyboard? Anything like that being used?
Hopefully we should get it sorted, we troubleshoot through all the possibilities until we find the answer :)

Dave,
I did have Scratch Live installed at the time I put intro onto the machine and installed the ERGO but now I've uninstalled scratch. Also I had audacity installed and I've uninstalled that... I have a wireless USB mouse that I'm using. Other than the above nothing but should I check my installed programs/device list for any others I might have missed?
I've been doing some troubleshooting of my own and have downloaded two pieces of software. The first is a program called USB deview. It tells me all the devices I've ever plugged in and what has been plugged in where? I get the option to disable/unistall devices here so I've done so for the things that I'm not using anymore to try and increase my USB bandwidth. They seemed over crowded with devices so maybe this will help?
Secondly I downloaded some driver software and it's informed me that I have several USB Bus drivers out of date. Could this also be an issue? Do you know of any driver checker programs that you have used that have been successful?
If the problem isn't to do with the USB port detail or the drivers then where do we look to next? The soundcard manufacturer (which is realtek or litex) or to ACER the laptop manufacturer? I'm determined I'm going to get this to work mate!
Cheers for your continued support :)

Hey Mark,
Good work mate, look it's hard to say but i'd recommend updating the out of date drivers for sure.
Have you tried taking your USB mouse out of the equation? Disconnect and try running without it.
Let me know you get on. I'll continue to give input and support as much as possible. I'm sure we'll get there in the end!

Ok cheers for the advice Dave. I'm just on the Acer downloads section and it has an audio driver and an intel chipset driver... Looks like I've left updating my laptop way longer then I should have!? This is probs what's causing the problems!
Once I've grabbed all the free manufacturers driver updates I'll probs choose some driver updater software and get the rest that I need. I'm really hoping updating the drivers solves the problem and that I can finally use my Ergo!? I know it works at least but I don't want to pay for a new laptop or sell the ERGO really... :)
I'll try running again without the mouse connected when I've updated all the drivers. I'll let you know how I get on...
Many Thanks,
Mark.

Dave,
After having updated all my out of date drivers I'm still unable to get my ERGO to work properly??!! Its so frustrating!! I've tried unplugging the USB mouse I'm using but nothing. I think the only way I might get this working is if someone from serato or pioneer were to try and get this unit to work with my laptop whilst sitting in front of it lol!? Any other suggestions now?
Cheers,
Mark.

Hey Mark,
I need to clarify some things.
1) What operating system was the other ASUS laptop on you tested the Ergo on?
2) When you open your sound device setting and set your Default sound card to the realtex. And then go back and Open DJ Intro, what happens? Do you see the virtual decks and do you have control using the ergo? But no sound?
3) When you set the Ergo the defaulting sound card can you play music (not from Dj Intro) from windows or winamp or iTunes etc?
4) Please go to Device manager>USB Devices> sound video game controllers MIDI Devices. Open these up and take a screen shot and attach for me.
5)If possible make a small video of all of the above, and attach it here on thread.
Things were getting a bit confused so, please answer the questions step by step and we can get to the bottom of this :)

Hey Dave,
Firstly the ASUS laptop that has proven my ERGO works is running windows 7, not sure which version tho... I can find out if it's important?
So here is that video you asked for? I should tell you that in your previous message you sent a link re. drivers and firmware. I've already installed and reinstalled these updates with no effect. Hope the video helps. Hit me back!
Cheers,
Mark

Hey Mark,
From the video we have established a few things. The drivers are not the right drivers, they are windows drivers.
www.pioneer.eu
Please try uninstalling the 2 drivers you showed me in the video. Also what are the other Audio drivers (LitexMedia Virtual Audio Cabel (WDM) there for? If you are not using them, uninstall them too.
Then download the windows drivers here and install. Then make sure that they are there in the Driver window like before, not windows driver but Ergo Driver :)
Let me know how it goes, all is not lost if this doesn't work i have a plan B. Just try this first. Differently a driver issue :)

Sometimes computer problems can drive you to insanity n make you feel exhausted haha! I'm glad we stuck at it mate! You should get a promotion because your support is top notch! Perhaps this thread might help a lot of other people with the same problem??
I don't think there's anything else, so cheers n happy mixing mate!! I'm off to blend some beats! :D
