Big Name DJ prices

Oak D 12:05 AM - 12 December, 2007
What do you guys think big name dj's get? Not DJ AM, but EDM dj's. Like Bad Boy Bill, Robbie Rivera, George Acosta, etc. Would a $4000 offer be an insult?
djdragon 12:39 AM - 12 December, 2007
No, actually thats a bit high for them unless it's a one-off.

Try to get them when they are on tour, it's cheaper.
dj bedtime 6:35 AM - 12 December, 2007
oak-- I'm afraid you're way off for guys like BBB and Rivera.

you can expect BBB to quote a price of 20,000-35,000 grand a night...possibly 10,000-15,000 on a weeknight. He does about 160 gigs a year and he can quote what he wants. Back in 97' he was quoting 7,500 a night+expenses and that was about the time he was starting to gain massive national exposure. That was 97' cost of living too

Rivera will probably go for 10,000 a night min. He's been really hot in the EDM scene for a while now
DJ Sniffles 6:43 AM - 12 December, 2007

HA HA not likely
DJ Sniffles 6:51 AM - 12 December, 2007
i think it is....

my promoter friend in Seattle had gotten a big name EDM DJ at the Last Supper Club, who is not on the level of BBB or Rivera, and they paid out 10,000
dj bedtime 8:26 AM - 12 December, 2007
not likely??!?!?!?

You need to stop only thinking about Dj AM and realize that EDM dj's cary some major weight with ALOT of crowds/people. Take BBB for example...

lets say conservately he is playing for 15,000 a night. He plays an avergae of 160 gigs a year (trust when I say he is booked non-stop)

= 2.4 million

Also- keep in mind that he does about 30 dates a year in Europe. You know he's getting 30,000-40,000 a night for those. EDM in Europe is to hip hop in USA
BattleFunk 8:56 AM - 12 December, 2007
morillo gets around 25k for doing a local club for a 2/3 hour set - and that's about the highest paid over here at the minute

sasha, was pulling 17k, 10 years ago, and he's much higher up the dj mag ladder than erick - so do your own maths

suprisingly though, i heard sneak is about 4k for the same set at the same club - but it all depends on the time of the year as the prices are seasonal

book for january! they'll pay you to play! :D
djsince74 12:04 PM - 12 December, 2007
And can anybody guess what Tijs Verwest gets a night.

??
djdragon 2:04 PM - 12 December, 2007
I'm glad you guys are still willing to pay inflated prices.
Flipstyles 4:21 PM - 12 December, 2007
Bedtime - I highly doubt Bill gets anywhere near $20 - $35K a night... I haven't seen him spin in a while but the last few times I saw him spin (years ag0), the place was 1/2 full. I would be surpised if he gets over $5K per night especially in Cities like LA where he is old news.... He might pull over $10K in other countries where he plays less or for big events but no way in hell does he get the upwards of $20K.... Promoters would be losing thier asses...
sopranosupasta 4:31 PM - 12 December, 2007
BBB does get into the 20k 30k range, felix da housecat same Armannd Van Heldne 40k-60k over seas.

this is FACT, I know their manager.

I call BS. BBB played here a few months ago and he was only $5k for the show. Felix played here twice, and it was $5k for the show. Were talking Canada not US or overseas. Shit We have had Pete Tong play at the club and it was only $4k!

I've had talks with Sneak before, and one time he was pretty bummed that he wasn't getting bookings. Then he found out his booking agency was charging $8000.00 a show and he was only getting $1500.00.
De LA 5:53 PM - 12 December, 2007
I think its all gonna depend on the venue & how you work out the pay with each artist/promoter/agent. Lets say your club holds 2500 people, and the agent wants half the door @ $30 a head. IF they pack the place thats $75k which gives the agent/artist $37500. not too shabby. Yeah I know this is "in a perfect world where everyone shows up and pays". But then you factor in bottle service/bar ring and any other NTR (non tradition Revenue) that the club rakes in and some of these artists could be making 50k plus a gig. Now how much they get to keep personally after they pay the behind the scenes people..who knows.

But again, to say BBB has done shows for 20k and for 5k could both be right. Would you turn down either?

not even close dude, are you secretly BBB's agent, trying to push up the numbers? A friend of mine booked him in 97 for $1500.

I just called a homie at AM Only and they said offers of $5000 or less are accepted all the time for him, on weekend nights. He does get much more sometimes though.

Rivera and Acosta are both booked less and are much cheaper.

dude, it's not. Check the European charts. EDM is on there and has a presence, but pop still rules.

They are just artist & producer oriented over there, which is misleading when comparing DJ's, because Tiesto is not famous in Europe for DJ'ing, he's famous for production. Kanye West would pack stadiums over there.

Yep! Hip-hop, RnB & Pop are the top sellers in the EU.

Just because I love Chinese Opera doesn't mean that it 'popular' in China *lol*

Depends on the show, whether or not theyre on tour, if theyre in the area already and they already did a show or festival in the area.... lots of factors. .\\\

And BTW , Sneak has the same manager as BBB, Felix, Armand, Mark Farina etc etc.... www.XmixProd.com ... look it up.
Oak D 8:46 PM - 12 December, 2007
So AMonly is the booking agent and xmix is the manager?
sopranosupasta 11:34 PM - 12 December, 2007
AMOnly (im assuming) is the local booking agent and Xmix is the manager, the booking agent contacts the manager for shows.

the way it works:

club wants big name DJ
Promoter contacts booking agent
booking agent contacts manager
manager contacts artist.
artist agrees to show.
manager gets paid from booking agent
booking agent gets paid from promoter
promoter gets paid from club

this is why some Dj's get paid 5k from the club, 5k from the promoter, and 5k from the booking agent.

the manager takes 10k and the DJ gets 5k or what ever the contract is negotiated between the manager and the DJ.

so you see. when someone like AM gets 25k to do a show. it doesnt necessarily always come from just the club, just the promoter, just the booking agent. etc etc

MOST of the time, the manager will have 75% of the money wired directly to their account and the DJ will pick up the remaining 25% at the show....

Then depending on any advance that the label has given the DJ, the deductions begin. all money that the label gives to the artist always comes out of money making shows.....

Fellas also remember that Bad Boy Bill is also working hard to sell the Mixed CD and DVD - Behind The Decks. In the Music biz there is also something called a Promotional Tour where if a Artist or in this case a DJ/Artist, who has his shit together will do a venue on the cheap in exchange for local promotion of the new CD or this case DVD.

Bill may do 5k night in exchange for local Radio & In Store Appearences, etc to promote his CD/DVD.

I used to work for Luke Records back in the day and we did that all the time. I was on the road with 2 Live Crew (when Verb was a member and You Go Girl was the hit) and we had a group called UMYND that Luke was trying to break. They did "free shows" all throughout the midwest on the Record Companies dime as a promotional tour.

Bill may do the same thing (cheaper fee) and write it off as a Promotional Tour.

Yeah that be it Promotion!!!

I wouldn't gamble on one DJ getting paid that much at any club but depending on location it could be true!

Dj Art Pumpin Payne were you working at Luke's when he did the video America's Most Wanted" round table were he interviewed Too Short ,HWA and my group the Geto Boys I may have met you before at the Lukes club the Rolex!
DJ Art Pumpin Payne 1:05 AM - 13 December, 2007
Yeah, we probably met. I ALWAYS did Rolexx when I came to Miami. I hope it wasn't one of my CRAZY nights - LOL

That place was the SHIT. Even before I worked that short stint with Luke, other DJ's from Detroit wanted to go to the mega clubs to here all these Euro DJ's play their bastard child version of Techno. me and my Road Dog, would say fuck that - ROLEXXX!

Actually as years went on, many of the high profile Black DJ's, promo and label reps ALWAYS did a rolexxx night during the conference - it became tradition - LOL.

To this day, I do not go to strip clubs here in detroit, why bother??? The Miami strip clubs SPOILED ME, lap dances are damn near like sex without taking off my pants. I just get mad up here in Detroit.
DJ Art Pumpin Payne 1:08 AM - 13 December, 2007
I think i was working for Luke in about 95 or so. I was based in Detroit as the Midwest Rep, but had like 7 or 8 states i had to cover, from Iowa to Ohio and all the way down to Kentucky.
allenbina 1:16 AM - 13 December, 2007
three years ago, i made 20k the whole year.
DjWoody 1:20 AM - 13 December, 2007
There's a lot of factors when it comes to booking EDM DJ's. The city they're playing at is a MAJOR factor, tours, sponsorships, etc. But it is not uncommon for an EDM DJ to get $20K a night.

I'll give you an example. To see Ferry Corsten in LA last year, was about $35. To see him the same tour in Louisiana or Texas, it was about $10 a show. Do the math. What city is paying more? What city has a stronger following.

In 2004 I tried to book RHV, and AM Only told me he wanted $3000 for a set. In 1997 we used to get him for $1000. Do the math.

In 2004, Bad Boy Bill was $10K-$15K in LA. Now, I'm sure he's higher since he has a whole production & crew that flies with him.

Let's not get into Tiesto. Everytime Tiesto plays in LA, his ticket prices are easily $50 each. His NYE tickets are going for $80 each right now.
DjWoody 1:23 AM - 13 December, 2007
oops... I meant TCA for Richard.
dj bedtime 6:10 AM - 13 December, 2007
Woody and sopranosupasta--thanks for setting things straight.

Guys- I may have been slightly off on some numbers (was going off memory) but yes....the fact remains that EDM dj's can make a pretty penny depending on where and when they play.

it only took 34 replies to establish that -lol
sopranosupasta 3:12 PM - 13 December, 2007
another thing to keep in mind, if the DJ doesnt want to do the show....he will tell his manager to make a ridiculous request for pay, say. 40k to play 2 hours in a club in Alabama or something......this is also why some shows cost more than others and rates fluctuate.
Daim 3:33 PM - 13 December, 2007
the "edm djs" in the first post are more pop djs.. huh

BBB dj'ed at my club a few weeks ago, he charged the promoters 2 grand.. Yes 2 grand, and this was confirmed by the club owner since he had to pay half. The promoters did state they knew BBB for awhile but thats a HUGGE drop off from what you guys are stating..

like i said, it all depends on the venue, the state or country they play in. etc etc

Armand Van Helden gets 60g's USD to play in AUS, because he's a celebrity there.... he can even walk down the street with out security.....
