• Improved tonearm mounting and oxygen-free copper wire being used for the signal.
• Improved vibration damping in the body.
• Improvements to the pitch control accuracy.
• Better LEDs.
• Possibly some motor improvements.
Looks like its +/- 8 only. I think they made similar claims for the M5G regarding the tonearm and pitch. I don't see any real improvements, do you?

sounds/looks like the mk5 with a new mk number. They were moving in the right direction with the things they added on the m5g, but now they put outa new one that is the same as the ones they already discontinued. Oh well.. Ill stick with my 2 m5g's and 3 mk2's that I already own

All they have to do is create some 1200's with removeable RCA's and I'm sold.

They just need to make all newer technics with digital pitch and internally ground the tables. And maybe some removable RCA cables so you can easily change them if they go band. Those are the main problems with technics over time.100% co-sign

the m5g's have digital pitch... and it only taks like 10 mins to dothe internal ground mod yourself (it takesthe logest taking off the bottom on the 1200,s that you cant get to the tonearm bottom without taking off the rubber bottom to the 1200. But i do see a need for removable rca's, would help out with alot of the bad RCA issues being fixed quickly.

No ground cable and removeable RCA = fairly easy mod to do yourself, no?
And no, the M5G pitch is not digital, it's just a multiplier allowing you to go up to +/- 16%

yeah when I read the improvements I thought to myself; I have the m5g's with better features. I imagine since they are limited productions I'm sure the price will be crazy high.
Put the MK6 next to the M5G and I would pick the m5g, not even knowing the price of the MK6 (which I assume will be more then the m5g).
I'm sure some of the higher end DJ's will jump on these.

The upgraded pitch slider is now digitally controlled, but you won’t notice anything different except for the button which changes the +/- range from +/-8 to +/-16. I really don’t find myself using the extended range much spinning hip-hop, but breaks and EDM dj’s will likely find some convenience there. As an added bonus, Technics added the sweet little feature there also where the displayed pitch range changes corresponding with the range selector switch.from here

I've done my research already and I own one. It claims to be digital, and if it really is digital, then it isn't doing its job because there are M5Gs that need pitch recalibration over time. You won't see that on anything with a genuine digital pitch interface like what Vestax PDXs became known for.
Also, the wider pitch range is due to a multiplier, not a digital servo.

that's the dumbest thing i've ever heard.
really, why continue to use a table that doesn't keep up to technological advancement. Where's the key lock, replaceable rca's, 78 compatability, and reverse? Why can't they make a Tech that has all of these? Personally, I could care less about the extra features, but I need key lock, so I'm gonna use a table that has it. If all cars were made to run off electricity (and were faster, cheaper, and had more features), would you continue to use one with a gasoline engine just because they've been around for almost a decade.
I'm just saying that eventually, when they're are tables being made that are 10x better than Techs(assuming they haven't changed), whose going to stick with their 1200's? I know I won't. I'll always keep 'em for sentimental value though.

Technics initially targeted audiophiles, which could be the reason why their decks have such high quality.
When you start adding these features, there are tradeoffs, a downgrade in quality. I'm not saying there always will be because there are plenty of cases in which this is not true. But right now, in our industry, it is. Numark, Stanton, Vestax and thats not even the lower part of the spectrum like American Audio and Ion and who knows.
You're complaining about the fact that Technics won't adapt to the DJ market and add highly requested features. I'm complaining about the fact that all other turntable companies won't get with the program in terms of quality.

I.ll tell you I have used/owned these other decks befor with all those new features..... andto be honest, I still went back to the 1200's (the ones i used befor the m5g's were over 20 years old and I still liked them better then the other ttble's that i bought and got rid of). There is this feeling that 1200's have that the other dont, and from doing extencive test, the 1200 have much better vibration dampening then other ttbles out there. I wish they would add some of the stuff that other ttbles have... but you just cant beat the reliablity of them and the feel of them.

If you do want master tempo with vinyl, you should be using Serato. Built-in master tempo on turntables doesn't sound good at all, take a quick listen at the Stanton 150s or the TTXs that have it. The master tempo in Serato blows them all away in terms of clarity and quality.

MK4 Techs have 78 rpm, removable RCAs, and, if I'm not mistaken, platinum accents.
I've read on this board that inroducing removable RCAs would affect signal/sound quality.
That sucks if the M5G isn't "really" digital.

I do. Especially with doubles. As a matter of fact, I use all the features on my TTXs on a regular basis.Independent control of torque, stop, and start times is sweet. %50 pitch range is also very useful; instant halftime drops. I could go on. It remains to be seen if they'll last more than a few years, which seems to be the only real advantage techs have left. But when the numarks do die, I'll most likely get some more. I hate how limited I am when I have to use techs.
I'm not trying to turn this into another ttx vs technics debate, just pointing out that the additional features ARE used and appreciated by some of us. It'd be nice to see technics catch up a little instead of rehashing the same old shit.

I've seen turntablists use reverse but they were actually modded onto Technics decks. DJ Craze and DJ JFB just to name two, but yeah, for your average DJ, reverse is impractical.

Btw, the last one... was a joke. But, I still don't know who REAAAAALLY needs or uses the reverse function on their turntables. Of all the DJ's you see live, performing at clubs and even doing shows, how many times have you seen someone hit the reverse button?:-)

hes right, they will get left. altho, saying that, they SHOULD get left. they should have got left a long time ago. however....
unfortunately, people are so closed minded in their (timbaland is great, talib kweli is the saviour of hip hop, technics are the only real dj deck, pioneer are the only real cd deck) kind of ways, that 95% of the world dont realise that technics have already been surpassed.... and im sure wont even notice when in 10 years time the 'industry standard' deck is still a 50 year old deck which hasnt changed except for a little blue led.

I hate the fact that my older 1200 MKII's have the pitch lock at green light. I heard the MK5Gs don't lock at green light which would be nice for me as an EDM DJ that is constantly blending and don't like to pitch up or down to get around that.

Neither the MK5 or the M5G (they're different decks) has a center-lock on the pitch slider. Technics eliminated the center-lock with the M3D model, and they continue to manufacture the MK2 with their current offerings to meet the demand for center-locking decks.
I'm also primarily an EDM DJ, and having spun on 1200s with and without center locks (including a buddy's jacked-up hybrid rig with one M3D and one MK2), I can tell you that M3D/MK5/M5G/MK6 style pitch slider is much easier to use for EDM.
The thing I hate most about the center click is that the center dead spot over the click detent gets wider and wider as the deck gets older, so eventually you jump from 0% pitch to +/- .7% (or .5 or .8 or whatever) in a heartbeat. Not good at all for a nice long blend.
The power switch on the MK2s always bugged me too. Can't even begin to tell you how many times I've accidentally shut off an MK2 by cueing carelessly.

what about updating the power cord to a 3 prong so we don't have to use a separate ground wire. we're no longer in the 70's, there are plenty of 3 prong outlets available today. time for an engineering update to the old classic i think.

didn't the patent run-up on the 1200s?
someone should just clone the 1200, change a few things. It doesn't seem like Technics/Panasonic will take this thing where we want/need it to go.

Closed mindedness had nothing to do with it... things that become industry standard aren't necessarily the best, but it is still the industry standard. Beta was better than VHS, DVORAK is better than QWERTY, and the list goes on...
There are many reasons why this happens, but at least the SL-1200 and CDJ1000 are two rock solid products - durable, reliable, and can be found in 99% of club installs - why wouldn't you want to learn to dj using this equipment? So you can be uncomfortable on a pair of 1200s when you get the opportunity to open for an A-list dj? "hey DJ (insert big name here) do you mind using my Numark turntables so I can play a song twice as fats as it should ever be played?"
If the 1200 had removable RCAs I would lose them... If it played at 78 I would get stuck recording vinyl for my buddy's grandma. If I could play a record backwards I would be on tour....

I've seen turntablists use reverse but they were actually modded onto Technics decks. DJ Craze and DJ JFB just to name two, but yeah, for your average DJ, reverse is impractical.
Craze actually manually turned the platter in reverse in his routine - he doesn't travel with his own decks and I have seen him do that routine in person many times on a variety of decks.

All I know is, I wanna do the internal ground mod! That plus if M5g's are not in fact digital, even though they definitley claim to be, I have never had to recal mine and they have traveled the world with me! Iraq, Afghanistan, Kuwait and so on......Never needed any recal do to mishandling or from use! Thats a great table! Super reliable and with great feel, thats what I look for in a table and the Tech M5g's do the trick!
I know there are other great tables out there, this is just my fav!

the m5g's are sick tables. i've bought mine a few months after they were released.
the only issue ive ever had with them ,is the 45 button on one deck wouldn't stay locked. i kinda liked it for scratching you could do some interesting stuff with it. i recently took that table completely apart for cleaning and fixed the button with some lube/cleaner.
you can take all the boards and components off the chasis of the m5g without soldering. i plan on painting and modifiying them as soon as i buy a pair of vestax.

The better the condition the more your going to pay. i always get good deals, you just have to keep looking and wait. i bought some 1210mk5's, numark dxm06, behringer 12" powered speaker, serato sl1 for $1000 cash. i sold the serato for 420 speaker for 200 and mixer for 150. i basically paid 230 for a new set of decks. gear was off a girl and all brand new. she also threw in the needles, gruv glide and a table.
