Vinyl skipping when trying to cue...

Greetings!
I have more or less mastered spinning with my CDJs and recently bought up some Technics 1210 SL-MK5's ... the problem I am running across is when I am cueing into a track, (back and forth motion with fingers on the record), all the sudden my shit will skip to another part of the song... this is extremely irritating and makes it hard to mix properly... does anyone have any advice? Thank you in advance!

Watchwww.youtube.com
start at about 1.5 and slowly add more weight until everything feels comfortable - leave anti-skating at 0 tho as that video is more for balancing for listening than djing.

Let's not go back and forth. Take a few pictures of your turntables (tonearm and needle close ups please) and we can fix your problem.

yea, most of us had to learn on vinyl so you develop the proper touch...

^also if you're using SSL then try Relative mode, and make sure to calibrate the scopes etc. in SSL settings.

Don't wanna hijack this thread but I just did that tonearm test and my 1210s failed. When the skate control was on 0 the tone arms didnt move into the centre. If I pu them in the centre an put the skate control to 3 they did Move back to the resting position. I had a play in absolute mode and it wasn't skipping particularly badly. Are there other problems that I should be aware of? If its not skipping I'm not too worried but should I be? Cheers.

^If you're not having problems when playing, then I wouldn't worry about it.
